Pep Guardiola: “I am moved by passion”

Pep Guardiola: “I am moved by passion”

At this moment, when people are starting to get a bit nervous about our recent form, injuries and the club’s institutional situation, it is good to remember the kind of man behind our team. If you watch this video, you will probably feel safe, and certain that Barça is in good hands. At least that is the way I feel.

Pep Guardiola’s acceptance speech is becoming legendary in Catalunya. And we, as the Catalans have, should also take note of these words. Sometimes we lose, or draw, or sometimes make mistakes, but our coach knows the path to victory. And most importantly, he wants to keep making us happy, as we have been for three long years. Do not let the recent events make you forget the kind of team, the kind of people we have. People are more important than results.

As our captain said today, good results will come. Titles will probably keep coming, if we work really hard as we have done in the past. It’s people we should care about. And fortunately, we have Pep Guardiola as the head coach of this amazing group of players. Do not forget that!

Here you can watch Pep’s acceptance speech (please press “cc” to see English subtitles). And try to ask yourself: when was the last time I felt like him?

  9. Fame says:

Amazing stand ovation I been fan of this great club which I call the love of my life for 12years and I will never forget pep the mister and what he has done for club and city of Barcelona… You know you are the best team when the whole world is shocked jus cause we draw with Ac Milan.. Visca barca and get well healthy you guys..

  10. Ram Siddhartha says:

Barca is more than a club and Pep is more than a man … He is a philosopher …

  11. Yomexy says:

I sure know a lot of cules are gutted by the recent spate of results but we shouldn’t allow that to erode our jugdement, support or trust in the team. See it from this angle and empathize yourself in it, chelsea conceded a late goal from us that hindered their progression to the final and we conceded a late goal from milan that directly doesn’t have any implications. Now, could our hearts be more broken than theirs (chelsea)?? Or would you have preferred to swap places with them??? We all ought to be grateful and graceful.

    • beautiful football says:

Topping that, would you rather have Villa scored the third goal like he did in CL final to get us 3-1 up against milan yesterday than risking a last minute goal from ryan giggs to equalize 2-2 at 92nd minute in the final?

  12. HugoDeLeon says:

You got to love and admire the man! An institution that produces such passionate people has to be amongst the best in the world!

Visca Barça! Visca Catalunya! In Pep we trust!!!

  13. Puppet says:

What an honest person. He is obviously brilliant, but also down-to-earth and humble. He is no superhero, people, and that makes his passions and successes all the more inspirational!

  14. John Great says:

I revere and highly adore Pep and our players! But we as fans shd go on our knees & pray for them so that they continually put smiles on our faces. Let our trust & confidence shift from Pep to God who is giving us the results through Pep. Up Barca!!

  15. tubular_bells83 says:

I can't believe this. We have drawn 2 games in which we should have walked and already people are losing confidence.

We have already had a good start to the season, and the draws were in different competitions under different circumstances.

    BARCA is in good hands.

  16. FC Barcelona9 says:

Maria Ines I love you :D

  17. Kristina says:

I'm with, Barca come rain or come shine. I trust this club will, and I trust Pep. He will always act in the best interrest of the club.

  18. Yomexy says:

Tanx.. Point is, if we are to consider and compare other teams’ predicament, status-quo and recent on-field achievements, we surely would be thankful for ours and be non-enviable of theirs. We defeated man u in 2 ucl finals in 3yrs yet they still summoned up courage to revere, adulate and acknowlegde our superiority. It surely would be unbearable if the reverse was the case.
At times i feel God is a cule..XD

  19. rogerevans says:

Thanks very much for the translation. But what is all this gloomy talk about how we need it to cheer us up in this dark hour? Poppycock! Barça is in great shape, and this talking as though we should all be in mourning for a once-great team except for a magnificent speech is Parliament is absurd.

If you some need for self-dramatization and angst, don't project it on FC Barcelona!

  20. fotobirajesh says:

Thanks from the bottom of my heart, Maria for this video (with the subtitles).

I had tears towards the end, dont know why. Such a moving and brilliant speech. Irrespective of any job, this is applicable to anybody to live and work hard for those brief moments for that bliss of happiness. I understand what he meant.
    Thank you

    • mariaines_ says:

      you're welcome!
I think we all need to thank the people who trusted Pep and gave him the position even when there were so many against it. And also need to thank Pep for being how he is! ;) we cannot have a better coach. Not even those great names who have won so much. Barça is so much more than just winning. Remember that (and truly hope our directive board remembers that too).

      • fotobirajesh says:

absolutely. one reason why I think Rosell is going too hard on Laporta. We would have been looking at some other coach instead, if not for Laporta.

  21. zeidmas says:

captions are not workingggg what shoud i do??? helppp

  22. Mr International says:

what a speech that guy should be a filosopher when he quits his job

  23. Steve says:

amazing speech! thanks so much for the translation.

may i ask what is the original pre-translated (aka catalan) for the "i am moved by passion" quote? i really love that line

  24. culé in Seattle says:

Maria Ines you freaking rock! Thank you so much for translating this. I watched the full thing when it was first posted, even though I couldn't understand any of it. While everyone gets to see Pep, us non-Catalan/Spanish speakers get to understand him because of the silent heros like you that make Barca "more than a club".

My reaction from this speech? Every successful person should look to Pep as a model of humility and gratitude. He must be so inspirational to play for!

  25. Cule Hand Luke says:

Jaysus that was even good in subtitles…. I feel like fighting for Catalunya now and I'm Irish ffs… No wonder the Barca players are so well motivated…. Hopefully this will calm all the panick merchants down and the fans will make more noise at the matches and not seem so nervous… :)
