OFFICIAL: Bojan Krkic signs for AS Roma

OFFICIAL: Bojan Krkic signs for AS Roma

With the signing of Alexis Sanchez a done deal, FC Barcelona have gone ahead and announced the transfer of La Masia graduate and striker Bojan Krkic to Italian Serie A club, AS Roma. The Catalan club’s official site confirmed the departure of the 20-year-old player as it declared that the two clubs had agreed on a fee of 12 million euros. Bojan Krkic will join Luis Enrique, former FC Barcelona player and coach of Barcelona B, who was recently appointed coach of the Italian club.

The transfer includes an obligatory buy-back clause which entitles FC Barcelona to bring get Krkic back to Camp Nou for a fee of 13 million at the end of the 2012/13 season. However, the club’s site noted that “this purchase can be blocked by AS Roma“, if they raise the overall cost of the transfer to 40 million euros.

totalBarca wishes Bojan Krkic all the best on his new journey.

  3. mouhoohoo says:

Any word on ibra 24m? and anyword on the dead weights like hleb milito jeffren?

  7. Don Barcelonista says:

Wow! I'm impressed! Barca just made one of the best deals of the century! It's a win win for Barca and Bojan! Luis Enrique will give Bojan the opportunity no doubt in my mind which is what Bojan needs first team play! I also have no doubt in my mind the Bojan will have not a stellar season but a solid season performing well! The best thing of it all is that if Bojan has a great season Barca will re-buy if Roma don't wanna sell than Barca will get $40 million for a Barca youth product! All profit! The best of luck to Bojan! I will be watching Roma games just because of Bojan! Forca Barca!

  8. a kurd in Denmark says:

goodbye Bojan, i will always love you as a player.
I am sad that you are not longer in Barca, i will miss you much, i am almost crying.
so good luck. I really hope that you will get succes, and that you will return to Barca, and get succes there.
Some of you might think that we will need a new striker, but no!
even though i think that Jeffren will leave Barca, i do not think that we need a naew striker because, Iniesta can play that position, and Afellay too.
Bojan i'm begging you, plaease return to Barca if you get succes.
see you Bojan, you will always be in my heart.

Do you think that Bojan will be a succes
Do hou think that he will return
    Bojan 1-10 (10 is best)
    Visca el Barca.
    Goodbye Bojan

  9. john says:

People are taking the word 'obligatory' too literally. It has more subtle meanings.

e.g. "The obligatory goal celebration" is different from

e.g. "The pregame coin toss is obligatory"

To me the deal doesn't make sense for Roma if we have to exercise the clause. Roma's incentive has to be more than just a 1 million fee for a 2 year loan. Roma has to also have the ability to get a permanent player worth about 15 million – 20 million for the price of 12 million if he improves. That's the price range of his value where Barca wouldn't necessarily buy him back for 13 if they don't need him. Taking into account taxes, agent fees etc.

  10. Babylonia says:

anybody has the video of the press conference???

  11. Hey your cule says:

One of La masia's finest goalscorers just goes to show how comepetitive this barca team really is, imagine being a phenom in the youth system and not being able to hold down a starting spot. Bojan will dominate in Italy, I wish him well.

  12. Ray says:

Great bit of business there by us … Nice to see we are p*ssin money away like we did in the past… even if we do have to buy him back and resell, it'll only cost us 1mill more than we sold him for and we should get at least another 6 on a resale…… personally I think he will develop into a top striker in serie a if given the game time and I wish him all the best…. Guardiola is amazin but he shouldve given him some game time in the CL final.. I hope to see you back in a Barca shirt in 2 short yrs MR Bojangoals…..good luck in serie a and I now want Roma to win the title… !!!!!

  13. Frank says:

Am so SAD that Bojan is leaving us but happy that he will get more playing time to help is career.
He was CRYING during his pres conference but I dont like his words to Guadiola.

  14. ViCulé says:

I'm stoked for Bojan to get chance to be the real number 9 that he is. And being that the Giallorossi are my Italian team, I'm so getting that kit!

  15. Nico says:

I really hope this kid will shine there and i wish him all the best but i can't say i'll miss him…

  16. Barcaholic says:

    ROSSELL = KILLER BUSINESS MAN!!!

  17. Anonymous_69 says:

I wasn't aware of the obligation to buy him back. I mean, if he completely flops at Roma, they will still get an awesome fee for him. I just hope he does well and improves.

    • skik2000 says:

It's just a way to not pay his wages for the 2 years he is gone. Even if he flops he's worth more than 1 million euros.

  18. david says:

soriano = 12m who think so? 32 gols in 1 year is crazy and benfica wants him

  19. barcanukid says:

    woah guys take this in.

1)bojan has a great season to end of the 09/10 season by benching ibra and scoring a few crucial goals. YET we all know bojan struggled to really REALLY get into the 1st team under pep
    2) the barca players usually need to go through stages of development. current;y (well in this case previously) luis enrique was the b team coach and would be a part of coaching the youngsters through their development
3)around the same time as bojan's major slump in performance last season, luis enrique contemplates coaching at another team and then fulfills that at roma
    4) roma comes knocking (along with other teams im sure) for bojans services and barca gets into REAL negotiations with roma: the team coached by enrique)
THUS barca is basically going back to basics in their 3 stage development process by getting bojan to play under enrique as to fulfill that 3rd and final stage

    your mind is blown.

jkz… good piece of business by barca. I really hope the kid comes back as i really liked his style and play but definitely we have room to get cesc now and the team can be set for the next 5-6 years if not more

    • barcanukid says:

also take this in….luis enrique's contract is for 2 years(with option of third) and pep only signs 1 year deals and has said that his time with barca will be up soon (maybe 2 years???)

mind. is. blown. lol… (im bored

  20. Anonymous_69 says:

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIT! This deal just got a million times worse. Hell, this isn't even sale anymore, it's a loan. We won't be getting the Bojan money until 2013, when we will have to pay 13M back. So, this is only a loan deal for two years where Barca will have to pay 1M to get him back later.

We aren't getting any money at all right now. So, this is actually a bad deal. Roma probably only completed it because of Luis Enrique. Another team could have easily paid 10M. The only possible way for Barcelona to get anything out of giving a good player away here is if Bojan suddenly becomes the best Striker in Italy, in which case we will get 28M. He will in all likeliness never reach those heights though.

So, in general, this deal is worse than I thought it would be… a lot worse.

    • E4zyE says:

I think its a good deal. Roma pays Bojan's salary and hopefully he will get some playing time. I also dont think Roma is going to pay 40 million for 1 player, they have never done that. So Bojan will get some experience and more playing time, Roma will pay his salary and we will pay 1 million to get a better player back. By the time Villa will be 32 so he will take his place…

      • Anonymous_69 says:

I'm okay with buying Bojan back for 1M. 2 years of good playing time, I think he will definitely be worth 1M. My problem is that we are not going to get any money at all. We will save around 4M over the next two years on salary payments, but aren't getting any money for immediate transfers.

And the board are trying to make it look a lot better than it is. This is a simple loan, except we are paying Roma to keep a talented player warm for us.

    • @fahim01 says:

No it's a confusion created by ona fm.We will get 12 m euro immediately. If we want to buy him back we will have to pay 13m euro in 2013.The word obligatory is used in the sense that we are obliged to pay 13m euro if we wish to bring him back.So if the want to retain him i.e block our move for bojan they will have to pay 40-12=28m euro. It's a good move because unless bojan becomes world beater he wont be back. And in the mean time we can invest his sales money in cesc fabregas transfer.

      • Robert says:

        Here's what Barca Website says:

The Italian outfit will pay 12 million for the player and the agreement includes an obligatory repurchase clause to be exercised by FC Barcelona at the end of the 2012/13 season, for a cost of 13 million.

This purchase can be blocked by AS Roma, but in such a case the overall cost of the transfer will rise to 40 million euros.

A bit of Bojan's press conference.

  22. Cule says:

Rosell is a genius. And Bojan will get 100 % more playing time. And Rosell is once again a genius. He does what a president should. The Oriol Romeu deal might be even better, if we can get him bck in a few years!

  23. Erich says:

A lot of people here seem to not understand this or haven't bothered to actually read the article.

Roma buy Bojan NOW for 12 million. N-O-W!!! And only if we want to we will buy him back in one or two years for 13 million. We don't have to. If we want to get him back but Roma doesn't want to lose him, they will have to cough up an extra 28 million.

Well done Barça! This is transfer-negotiating as good as it gets. A perfect deal.

    • Arvine says:

It's OBLIGATORY buy back, which means we have to buy him back in 2013. But Roma have the option to keep him if they want to and have to pay another 28M.

      • Erich says:

No, we don't have to buy him back. "Obligatory" is a poor choice of words or a mistake of the translation. I know my fair share of spanish and you can read all the articles about it: We don't have to buy him back. We can, if we want. And only then we have to pay 13 million.

As of now Bojan is officially player of AS Roma. They bought him from us for 12 million Euros. Everything else is just speculation about the future.

        • Arvine says:

Oh thanks for the confirmation. The translation is so confusing.

        • Arvine says:

Sorry, but I checked in the official site and it says:

"The Italian outfit will pay 12 million for the player and the agreement includes an obligatory repurchase clause to be exercised by FC Barcelona at the end of the 2012/13 season, for a cost of 13 million." http://www.fcbarcelona.cat/web/english/noticies/f

Now I'm totally confused, which one is right?

          • Erich says:

This happens when people translate literally.

            Definition of OBLIGATORY
1: binding in law or conscience
2: relating to or enforcing an obligation <a writ obligatory>
3: mandatory, required <obligatory military service>; also : so commonplace as to be a convention, fashion, or cliché <the obligatory death scene in opera>
            4: obligate 1
            — oblig·a·to·ri·ly ə-ˌbli-gə-ˈtȯr-ə-lē, ä- also ˌä-bli-gə- adverb
See obligatory defined for English-language learners »
See obligatory defined for kids »
            Examples of OBLIGATORY
The training is obligatory for all personnel.
This action movie includes the obligatory chase scenes.

For us this is the important part:

"so commonplace as to be a convention, fashion, or cliché <the obligatory death scene in opera>"

It's the obligatory repurchase clause because there was a lot of talk about it in the last weeks, that no cantera player will be sold without that clause. It does not mean that we have to buy him back. We can if we want. Anything else would not make sense.

          • Arvine says:

I just asked Barcastuff and they said otherwise o.0

          • Anonymous_69 says:

It's official. It's part of the agreement. Barcelona have to buy him back. Bojan will be back in Barcelona in two years unless Roma deem him worthy of 28M. Despite what the official sites say, this is essentially a loan deal in every aspect, except we are paying another team 1M to keep our loaned player for two years.

          • Erich says:

Yes, you were right. My bad.

A great deal doesn't look that great anymore. Not because of the 1 million we have to pay (they pay two years of his salary with is over 6 million gross), but because we have to buy him back. I think he's just not good enough for Barça and won't be in two years.

Why they didn't make a simple loan-deal with an option for Roma to buy him is beyond me.

          • Anonymous_69 says:

I'm assuming because they still have faith in him. Which I agree with. I believe two years of consistent playing time will do him wonders.

          • Banana Republic says:

Barça is basically LOANING him to Roma for 2 years then will pay Roma €1M to get him back . Barça knows Roma will NOT pay an extra €28M to keep him. It looks like Barça has not given up on Bojan yet . In 2 years Villa will probably move on or play less (Sanchez/Pedro) so Bojan will get more playing time !!

  24. Zala says:

Best of luck boy! I believe you'll succeed and come back shining :) Can't wait to see you play against Udinese. I'll be there in Blaugrana and support you! <3
I even bet with my friend that you'll succeed and not fail :) (20 €) :D
Hope to see you back as soon as possible, but the most important thing is to see that smile of yours anywhere you go. You are the best wonder kid for me and that's why I believe in you!
    Bona sort!

  25. Good move for Bojan he will come good hopefully i am delighted Barca have got Sanchez and at a good price aswell good business by Barca still though for me barca need to get these players
    A Defender worth about 8million
Fabregas 35Million (dont need but no harm would be done with a great addition like him)
    Out
Hleb 5Million i reckon we could get for him
Dos Santos 1million with a buy back clause
    Jefferen 8Million
    Maxwell 8million
and plus with the sales of Bojan Caceres making 15million i think that barca wouldve done good business in the summer maybe the best signings by Barca in a while even though last year was good .

  26. KPB says:

    Here you go Bojan lovers:

“My objective is to be happy by playing football and rediscover that joy I’ve lost recently under Pep Guardiola.”

Bojan, who made his first team debut with Barcelona at the tender age of only 16, then went on to say that he had felt Guardiola had been unfair to him over recent seasons.

“As you all know, in recent years there hasn’t been much faith in me, nor consistent playing time to prove what I can do. Whether I trained well or badly, it didn’t matter, as I still wasn’t picked. There were some unfair decisions and that’s one of the reasons why I opted to leave.”

    • Erich says:

Right, blame the coach. In 9 out of ten appearances he just didn't deliver. Those are the cold facts. He had several chances but he blew one after the other. Kicking back like this is not very classy.

    • Arvine says:

The little boy needs show some respect to a person who selflessly gave everything in his life for Barca.

  27. BarcaFan says:

I guess we made more cash, what's the harm..?

  28. buj says:

To those that fail to see the true significance of the unrealistic 40m valuation placed by Barca, that value is no different than the release or buy-out clause that our players have. For e.g the 150m placed on the head of Iniesta. No one will ever really pay that amount of money but it was put in the contract to stop other clubs esp Real Madrid from negotiating freely with his agent and his club, in Bojan's case, AS Roma.

That way Barca still has some negotiating power to stop the deal or at least make it painful for Real or even Arseanl, Man City, MU, Chelsea to get their hands on him on a bargain. We may never know but after 2 spectacular seasons he may well be valued at 20-25m.

Yes 12m may sound expensive now given his unproven calibre (AS Roma could well baulk at the price) but to appease them to take him, Barca promises to take him back for 1m more. All the while, for 2 seasons, under Enrique, he's sure to get the minutes he badly needs, and Barca is freed from paying his salary.

It's a win-win for everyone. Barca gets to "loan" him with Roma paying his wages. Bojan gets his minutes and Enrique gets a player who he knows he can work with from the start. Roma gets to pay "nothing" plus a 1m tip. Roma can sell him in 2013 but to do so they must buy him from Barca first for a reasonable price, and only if Barca has no need for him. Or Barca can use him to replace Villa, who is 31 by then.

    • Erich says:

There's no 1 million tip. Roma have to cough up 12 million NOW, because it's a normal transfer with a buy-back-clause. Nothing fancy about it. It's just that many people translate the original articles wrong or mis-use the word obligatory.

It's the obligatory mistake people make when they translate the word obligatory. Get it? ;)

      • buj says:

Yes, on paper Roma have to. But as some have already asked what is the use of selling him for 12 now and buy him back for 13 after 2 seasons? Well as has been put forward by SwissRamble blogpost in Ibra's weird 1-year loan and 24m sale the season after that, it's all meant to sweeten a deal in an attempt to show rosy year-on-year accounts balancing act. They are aiming to show the economy is getting better the longer they are in office.

Do you think all transfers are paid in FULL UPFRONT.? No! Most never do. They are mostly paid in installment esp. for Barca.

By doing what they did, rather than say they got NOTHING for Bojan in a loan deal, they can say they GOT 12, and put in as income in their book. But then to buy him back 2 seasons later for 13, isn't that like lending him so he can get minutes, and then "tip" Roma for that.

Unless they have a back deal with Roma that Bojan does not know – where they don't intend to take him back but only to appease him by saying that he is still valuable to Barca, so he agrees to move. Then I can see the money coming in. But still, with a buy-back clause, it's a win-win for everyone, for now, even if they don't really intend on using it.

        • buj says:

I don't know if you have read any of SwissRamble blogs on Barca but if you have, you'll see that to show a rosy picture in the accounts most businesses made payments on any deals in installments so as not to show one big "hole" in their book, but rather smaller, more manageable "holes" over a period of time.

I'm not trying to be clever here, but there's alot of tweaks and tricks club can and have used to show a well managed year-on-year accountings. Remember Bojan's contract with Barca also includes a lot of variables, performance and trophy-wise. That alone, on top of his salaries for the 2 seasons, it may well come to half or 1/3 of that 12m Roma paid for him. That's several millions that Barca can use to offset Sanchez's wage bills the first 2 seasons the Chilean is with us. So on and so forth… yada…yada… Google for Swissramble if you haven't done so and you'll see what I mean.

          • testarosso says:

But if what you say is correct then FIFA financial fair play seems to be rather moot, I mean clubs may not be able to spend 26 mill in 1 year but they can easily pay 6.5 over 4 years? or am I getting something wrong?

          • buj says:

Yes that is how things work in footballing world. And that 26m that you say could be paid upfront is not 26 but in reality more. It all depends on Barca performance in the next few years and Sanchez's participation in it. So the club can deferred all that payments in installments.

There are other things to be considered all through the duration of his contract. His depreciation in contract value as per years left a.k.a Amortisation – the equivalent of depreciation for intangible assets etc. it all goes into the calculation. But then he could also worth a hell lot if he is a better player then but that is not taken into account. Even the value of home-grown players are not added as assets, hence Messi's, Xavi's and co. value is not added – a disadvantage for Barca compared to the likes of Real.

There's alot to read about it at SwissRamble. And if you can find news article about Prof Gay of Barcelona University study into Spanish football's Finances about Barca's, Espanyol's, etc home-grown disadvantage.

  29. blaugrana_uk says:

right to break the deal down!

roma will pay barca €12m NOW then at the end of the 2012/13 season we can purchase him back for €13m or roma can pay €28m and take full control of bojan etc simple deal and smart why:

personally although i like bojan im not sure he will ever cut it here i like the kid but its just a feeling that tells me he wont he cut it here, at roma i think he will shine as serie a is more of a poachers league for exampel look at sheva, inzaghi, batigol all great poachers!!

if enrique and bojan does well roma will pay the €28m which we can invest further into the squad either for a new striker, midfielder or defender!

incase of the above already being done we can use it to pay off some of our debt we currently service our debt each year to the tune of €31m so this means just €3m needed to service towards it!

bojan could shine and prove to be the player he once was and in a few seasons come back when villa is hitting his early 30s to challenge!!!

  30. hectorinho says:

Good luck Bojan! I wish you the best!

  32. ASR1927 says:

I'm a hardcore Roma fan and i'm super happy with this deal. No matter what, we get a top young talent for 2 years. Should he explode we would have to add 28 mil on top of 12 mil budgeted in 2011. Its a LOT of money, he would have to really have an immediate positive impact with Serie A. Roma has new American owners, we could technically afford to buy Bojan in two years.

  33. Ray says:

Well that's a terrible idea….Lay off the whacky backy…… He would coach the ability out of Messi and turn him into a full back like he did with Duff and tried to do with Robben and Cole at Chelsea. So then we'd get back a shattered negative player… The only reason Ronaldo hasnt changed is coz his Ego is bigger than Joses……….. Also I dont think the Argies like negative boring football so perhaps a more attack minded coach would be better for them especially considering the players at their disposal…….. Anyway by the sounds of it Mourinho would be too busy getting you nose surgically removed from his backside !!!!!:o

  34. mariaines_ says:

Being a Barça fan and still saying that.. amazing.
His motivation? You were clearly not watching or not paying attention. He was almost the only one trying to actually play football in a team context (not trying personal moves like aguero and tevez).
Have you watched Messi with his NT team recently? Have you watched their midfield?? He had to go to Mascherano to get the ball and then to the forward line and give the ball to aguero for his personal gratification, or lose it to di maría or higuaín. Messi wasn't a given a single good ball except when Gago was around (who was a refreshing surprise btw).
Argentina has no system, no coach, no discipline. And that has nothing to do with motivation.
Another example: the Chilean team were all hypes and all super motivated to win this Copa for the first time in our history. But the coach hasno discipline, no tactics. Great playrs were lead by someone who doesn't understand how to put them in the field. Result? kicked out by Venezuela.
