Milito signs with Independiente

Milito signs with Independiente

Argentine club CA Independiente, on their official website, announced the transfer of veteran defender Gabriel Milito from FC Barcelona who was officially released by the Catalan club. Milito has signed a 3 year deal with his new club.

Gaby Milito joined FC Barcelona in 2007 from Liga club Zaragoza and made his debut on 2nd September 2007 against Athletic Bilbao. He featured fairly regularly for the team until on 5th May, 2008, he suffered an injury to his right knee, which sidelined him for a long period of almost 2 years. He returned to the field in 2010 and was mainly played in the Copa games. To date, Milito has featured for the Blaugrana in 75 games, scoring 3 goals.

Milito has been a senior and important squad member and a good friend to many in the squad, especially Messi. We at totalBarca wish Gaby all the best for all his future endeavours!

  1. Don Barcelonista says:

Wow! That was fast! The best of luck to Milito! If it weren't for the injuries i'm sure Milito would have been more of a reliable defender for Barca!

Excersise buy back clause for Alberto Botia!

    Forca Barca!

    • odn-barca4life16 says:

The time to exercise the buyback clause has passed. We can only buy him back next summer before a certain date

    • What are our options in defense? Surely Busquets as CB isn't the best option I'm affraid. Abidal's still recovering, and Puyol not yet 100% fit…

      • Don Barcelonista says:

Apart from Busquets and Mascherano Barca only have Muniesas, Fontas, Bartra as options to cover Puyol and Pique through injury and/or rotation… Don't get me wrong I'm all for producing and allowing the youth to be incorporated to the first team but at the same time have atleast one "reliable" (For lack of a better word) center back behind Puyol and Pique. I was hoping for Alberto Botia… But I don't think that's going to happen!

  2. era_k15 says:

Thank you for always giving your best at this club Gaby, I wish you success and happiness furthermore! :)

  3. love me barca says:

    good luck milito.

With coming cesc, now thiago can wear number 18.

  4. ibrahim says:

thank god he is gone officialy

  5. Myrmidon says:

Good Luck Gabby!! Damn I'll miss him and Bojan a lot :(

Now for Brian Boitano's sake Barca, buy Cesc!!! Can't believe it, 3 whole goddamned summers :E

  6. Barcaholic says:

WOW! Rosell's business is paradise on earth. This is what I really wished: Bojan, Jeffren, Milito out. Still Hleb and Keirrison missing and then we would be absolutely perfect. Great job Rosell! Big saving on salary! Just happy! Do we receive some money for Milito?

    Visca Rosell!

  7. _D10S_ says:

It is all set, only Cesc missing, when he arrives, the squad is complete.

I think Keirrison should stay with B team, and fill in the first team if needed.

For CB there is Bartra in B if needed.

If Cesc finally comes, I would be delighted with squad for 2011/2012!

  8. nzm says:

Sorry to see Milito go. Most of you will not realise this, but Milito was a very good friend, adviser and training partner to Messi. If you watch his goals at the Bernabeu during the UEFA Champions League away quarterfinal, you'll se Messi running towards Milito to celebrate. I'm sure that Messi is going to miss Milito very much.

Good luck Milito – you'll be remembered for that awesome last man defensive tackle against Bendtner which kept us in the Champions League for another round in 09/10 – a move which Mascherano copied against Bendtner last season!

    • shady says:

that would be uefa cl away semi final at the bernabeu, not quarterfinal :)

      • nzm says:

oops – of course – thanks for pointing that out! My mind was racing ahead, thinking of the Barca-Arsenal game that I mentioned in my next paragraph which was the quarterfinal played at Camp Nou!

  9. Louche says:

Thank god gabi is gone, he was a waste in defense for Argentina in the copa, we want quality at barca not quantity. now we need to buy cese n promote some youth players and all will be set for this season. GOD really bless rosell n his troops.

  10. nia says:

That was fast. I just finished reading the post that said he's been released. Well, best of luck Gaby, now Pep needs to get a good quality defender for cheap.

  11. Christian says:

YEEESSS finally everytime I saw him play I got nervous

  12. nia says:

OT: there's a pic on Barca website of Pique and Pedro posing with a new born baby at the nike store in Dallas, so cute, that's a very lucky baby.<3

  13. Tirasus says:

Good luck in independiente milito! Well, I guess Fontas will therefore get more playing time.

  14. bistobarca says:

if only a deal this quick could happen with cesc!

  15. Fan Fan says:

Don't so cruel and rude to the Barca player, he had very bad injuries and it just declined fitness. He wore Barca colors so please have some respect, he was really good when he wasn't inured.

  16. art says:

    Good luck to Milito!
I am a little bit woried about the situation of the Barca!
First, the players that leave Barca, it was right but I think that we need an real qualitative CB defender, even I am a real fan of the La Masia players, defenders like Bartra, Gomez, Muniesa and allready promoted Fontas. But, I dont know if they are ready to deal with big games like the Clasicos and the CL matches, the situation with Puyol and worst if there will be an bad injure of Pique (i hope and pray this never happen)?!
Second thing is that, WHY Guardiola didn't played at least 2 games with the 1st eleven ?! We neded a preliminary game including Messi, Alves and the new signed Sanchez before the very important games ahead – the Super Cup or the two elClasicos games!?

  17. Galning says:

On a free again? Fucking stupid..

Glad we got rid of Milito though, he served the club good in the past but it was time to leave.

  18. slick says:

i'm seeing alot of players going but only one in, wat the fucck is going on we neeed two defender nw

    • odn-barca4life16 says:

Zubi said that some of the players that will make up the first team are at the U-20 world cup. Assuming that Pique Puyol Abidal Fontas are the 4 CB options and Maxwell and Adriano are the LB options the only position that needs strengthening are the RB and perhaps CB positions. Given that the players at the U-20 world cup from Barca are

      Planas – LB
      Bartra – CB
      Sergi Roberto – CM
      Tello – LW
      Kiko – RW

It stands to reason that he meant that Bartra would be a part of the first team even if it means that he will alternate at times as Thiago did during last season. Bartra can also cover RB so I think between him and Montoya to back up Alves we should be ok

  19. friedchicken says:

    Damn that was quick.
He's still quality, just not Barca's quality. Any other team would be missing out not signing him for free if they need a decent defender. Good luck, Gaby.

  20. komo says:

so barca gives mutual contract termination to milito just like henry and marques by giving some money to him. why can't we be more patient and wait for other club who want to loan him ? this is another bad business after romeu's buy back clause !

    • odn-barca4life16 says:

He had 1 year left on his contract and has been injury prone for the past 3 seasons. He asked the club to join Indpendiente and rejected offers from Roma Zaragoza and a few others. Why would we try to get money out of it? They are not a rich club and he has been a good servant of the club never being disruptive despite not playing. This isnt football manager, this is real life. He has been a great friend to Messi and a positive influence to the dressing room. Why would we try to make money off of him?

      • komo says:

did i say we should make money from him ? read again, dude ! i said loan him out, not sell him. by loaning him out, we don't have to pay milito some compensation of his contract. that's why i call it a bad business.

  21. LM_10 says:

OT: The transfer of oriol romeu sounds ridiculous to me especially the buy-back options. We sell him for 5 mil and we have to pay 10 mil after 1 yr or 15 mil after 2 yrs to get him back??? I don't see us buying him after 1 yr coz in chelsea he won't probably be a starter hence after one yr we can't judge whether we should buy him back. May be after 2 yrs we will get an idea but by then he will cost 10 more millions!!! We have done some good business with Afellay, Sanchez and Bojan but this is a total rip off to pay 10 million to get our player back. For 10 mil or less u can buy a top class CB/DM. Even a player like Afellay only cost us 3 mil; so very very disappointed!

    • inzaghi says:

trust me he will get playing time. with essien out for 6 months and mikel faling from the pecking order the only real dm in chelsea will be oriol. he will get lots of playing time! and the offensive style of vilas boas would love to have a player like romeu!

    • inzaghi says:

and NO ramires is not a dm nor will he ever become one. becuase he is not good at all defensively…

  22. FCB_Asoto says:

    Good luck, Gabi! :)

  23. zeebarca says:

is it just me or are we lacking fit defenders, specifically CB's in this squad? we need a signing asap

  24. ramiz says:

we should totally put a buy back option on his contract!

  25. hehe says:

feel sad for Messi. He and Milito are like the best of friends. :(

  26. Caesarean says:

A bit of badluck at the end, he was quite terrible for us at the end. But was quite a presence on the field in his early Barca years. Commanding, marked well and also scored some headers. Greatfull for the service.

BTW: I dislike our transfer policy, sell cheap or give-away AND buy expensive (EVERYTIME – Let’s please change this about us, it sucks)

  27. alpha_phenix says:

guys,do you really think that B players suffice for empty places?of course they are talented and have future ,but at this moment they have enough experience for great Barca. :S
just look at to the rivals, they are straightening, there is no time for mistaking, any mistake leads us to loose one trophy. that's why i say we need player who ALREADY is great.
i don't want to see loosing races against Mourinio o.0

  28. KPB says:

I know a lot you started following Barca in the last few years, Milito had plenty of gaffes even before his injury

  29. El_Salvador says:

Milito was not the best CB we had in Barcelona, but he sure was commited! I love how he always kept his head held high. In the last couple of months he wasn't that brilliant anymore, but he tried at least.
I like players that fight till the last second, and that's how you can describe Gaby.
It's a good thing that Barça released him, he deserves to get more playing time. I wish him all the best in Independiente.

The only downside to this story for Barça, is that we will have only 4 players on the CB position, being Puyol, Pique, Fontas and Abidal. Maybe we should have exerciced the buy back option in the contract of Botia..

  30. awuku says:

    How much was he sold?

  31. Vanchakan says:

If Pedro doesn’t change jersey from #17 to #11, Thiago should wear #18.

  32. Frank says:

All the best Mr. Gaby. Great man that defended the colour of our team with all his heart even though injuries did not allow him to show his real talent

  33. nicky_sambua says:

Thank god he's gone. There are some real sentimentalists here. Can't remember when he was really anything special. So many other Barca defenders who were better than him.
