Four Barça players in preliminary Spain U-19 squad

Four FC Barcelona players have been called to the preliminary Spain U-19 squad, with training scheduled for July 4-15 to prepare for the UEFA U-19 European Championship which will take place from July 16  to August 1 in Romania. The four Barça players, all from Barcelona’s treble winning Juvenil A squad, are: Sergi Gómez, Rafa Alcántara, Gerard Deulofeu and Javi Espinosa.

The Spanish Under-19 coach Julen Lopetegui has called 23 players to train at Las Rozas in Madrid for the U-19 European Championship. Before traveling to Romania, Lopetegui will choose the final list of 18 players that will play in the tournament. Spain is in group B along with Belgium, Serbia and Turkey, with their first game against Belgium on July 20.

All season, Sergi Gómez has been the great defensive reference for Juvenil A. The player from Arenys de Mar, always located in the center of defense,  has alternated between Juvenil A and Barça B, with whom he has started nine matches.

Rafa Alcántara has shown this season that he is a great goal scorer. So far, the brother of Thiago had played inside left, a position that he has combined with being a false ’9 ‘, a position that has seen him score with ease. During a stretch of the season, Luis Enrique gave him his debut in the second division and he scored his first goal for Barça B in Salamanca.

Javier Espinosa has been another key player for Óscar García. In addition to his technical and always intelligent game, the interior of Talavera de la Reina has added hard work and sacrifice for the team. Espinosa has also debuted in the second division and was able to score an away goal at Numancia.

Gerard Deulofeu has experienced his best season in Barça’s youth ranks. The player from Riudarenes, always decisive, has exploded as a scorer and has been instrumental in the most important games of the season. Like his colleagues, Luis Enrique has also given him time with Barça B in the second division.
