Fontàs joins morning training session

Fontàs joins morning training session

The defender from Banyoles has worked this Tuesday morning with five of his teammates who had trained together on Monday afternoon – Messi, Mascherano, Alexis, Keita and Adriano.

Andreu Fontàs was the new face at training this Tuesday morning in a session that began at 9am. The defender participated in training for the first time since returning from Barça’s North American tour. Fontàs worked this morning alongside Messi, Mascherano, Adriano, Alexis and Keita, the five who had been present on pitch no. 2 of the Ciutat Esportiva on Monday afternoon.

Also joining the group this morning, like on Monday afternoon, were two players from Barça B, right back Martín Montoya and keeper Jordi Masip.

Before the exercises began, the players were all given pulsometers. The training began with gentle warm-ups and stretches, and afterwards the group continued with the rondos, in which Pep Guardiola has taken part. Masip, meanwhile, remain outside the group working with goalkeeping coach Juan Carlos Unzué.

Carles Puyol also made it onto the pitch of field no. 2 at the Ciutat Esportiva on Tuesday. The player from La Pobla continued his recovery process working with physio Juanjo Brau.

messi works along with alexis, it's good for the understanding.

  2. vvvv says:

    Messi + Alexis = DESTRUCTION

  3. fotobirajesh says:

the photo of Messi and Alexis – what is Moronnho thinking now.

Cant wait to see them together on the pitch.

  4. Cule1989 says:

Messi looks big! In a good way! More muscles?

  5. _D10S_ says:

I would like to see Montoya against RM, I think he has the potential required to fill in for Alves and eventually substitute him…

    • Shreyas_Shetty says:

I did read somewhere that Pep planned to use him for the first team this season. Maybe he will be promoted if he can prove his fitness.

      • barcayute says:

where u read that i hope so to many tyms alvez spend to many min on pitch u c why we were tire last season

        • Shreyas_Shetty says:

It was a statement from the owner of a club who wanted to buy Montoya. He said Barca would not sell him because Pep wanted to use him for the first team. Sorry but I really cant remember where I read that or even which club was interested

    • Philadelphia says:

he's definitely not ready yet… in fact, no one can replace Alves at this moment……

  6. Paul the octopus says:

Fontas is slow and he's not aggresive. He really has to step up his game. Imagine what would happen if Pique gets injured (I hope not!)

    • Simi says:

We should look at Mertesacker, his contract is running out soon and he is open for a move…. Tall and strong…

  7. Wisest-mansCryuff says:

In being a Central Defender, it needs very liitle football skills or techniques RELATIVE to other positions. Basically, an ideal CB should possess these values:____1) Pace and Strenght__2) Ability to read the game__3) Tackling sense__4) Aggressiveness____So basically THIAGO SILVA is the god of defender in moddern football____Fontas? I have no comment, even I would have been a better CB than him.__

    • master says:

and i don't remember maldini, carvalho and vidic got quick pace,,~~ i think the importance value of cb is strength, positional awareness, experience, calm, header, and for barca cb, technique is importance as well~~

      • Wisest-mansCryuff says:

Yeah I guess my no.2 point is the same thing as positional awareness…and I think for Barcelona our defensive line always push high, we need a fast defender, it really helps a lot you know.

    • Alcantara says:

Pique is the perfect example of what we need for a Barca defender, im not saying he is the best but he is perfect for Barca.

      • Cule1989 says:

What have Thiago Silva done that makes him the best defender in the world? One or two great seasons in Serie A! Vidic is the best C-Defender in the world.

    • Barca_Wolverine says:

Fontas was a CDM before we bought him… We seem to have a habit of this under Pep: Mascherano, Busquets, Toure

  9. Wisest-mansCryuff says:

IMO, in our youth academy Muniesa looks more likely to become a great defender

  10. wi mp says:

Wonder what camera did the photographer use ? The photos are great :)

  11. GaryFCB says:

I wish Pep would play another few games for Barca! I'd say he is fit enough to do it. Imagine Xavi – Guardiola – Iniesta!

  12. barcaforever says:

Fontas lacks speed and aggression and we need exactly such type of CM that is fast, aggressive and knows Barca way of playing. Ok – we have such type of player and i speak about Montoya. Yes, he is RB, but he defends well, he is really fast, aggressive and has good technique, also he has strong physique.I think he is better choice than Fontas for the center of defence.Remember that our Capita Puyol had played first as RB and still can play in this position very well.

  13. Barca_LT says:

awesome to see Alexis + Messi in training :) can't wait to see "Por Que" face, after they destroy them :)

  14. soldout2barca says:

    Thanks total barca……great pictures.

  15. alpha_phenix says:

where are they training? in the garden?! :D
    anyway, it's beautiful place ;)

  16. Wisest-mansCryuff says:

I wish Puyol could become young again. I would trade that with Fontas's football career, he can become a good body builder…

  17. Wisest-mansCryuff says:

Here's the ranking gor our defenders:

    1)Pique&Abidal (tied)
    2)Puyol
    3)Mascherano
    4)Busquets
    5)Fontaaaaaaaaaaaaas

    • Mercury_FCB says:

For me, 100% fit Captain Caveman is our n.1. I really love his attitude, mental strength and also his football skills which all make him irreplaceable element of Barca best possible starting line-up. The day when he will retire will be one of the saddest moments for every Barca fan. Then I would pick Abidal (version 2010/2011) and Pique in his best. Adriano, Maxwell, Fontas (and our DMs) are not at this level for me. I dont count Dani Alves in this list because he is rather winger for me and represent so special addition to Barca attacking power that means (at least for me) he is one of the 4 most decisive players for this phenomenal team. Along with Xavi, Messi and Iniesta of course :)

  18. jtmikko2 says:

Nice to see pep also taking part to exercises :)

  19. Babalola R. William says:

Are these players Messi, Alexis and others in Tuesday training session not playing for their respective countries?

    • blaugranachica says:

Only Alexis alone will leave to go be with his NT for a friendly against France.
The rest; Messi, Masche, Keita, dont have international duties this week.

  20. Mesut the Whiz-Fish says:

I guess, if we don't sign Cesc or a defender, we can really cut back the number of games veterans like Xavi and Puyol play and only play them in important matches, while slowly feeding those minutes to young and reserve players.

  21. Peter says:

    thiago Silva?

One of this SGomez Muniesa or Bartra, could be one of the best defenders of the world.

    • Barca_LT says:

S.Gomez..3 last second saves against Girona !! Just give him some time ;) and T.Silva will come to Barcelona for his autograph ;)

  22. kiko says:

fontas,go to real madrid or barca B. You are not appreciated by barca fans.

  23. Hammedinho says:

I will say it again and again fontas need time when pique started he was also slow with time he gel with d team.so pls give dis guy time, mark my word in next 2 yrs u guys wont be talking like dis abt him.also watch out 4 him dis season.up barca up totalbarca crews bravo to u all respect.

  24. Nicholas Gaffney says:

I'm not sure what Pep sees in Fontas, I guess he must see something since he's putting some emphasis on him

  25. KaushikG says:

  26. david says:

fontas is a good defender what you guys want from him. hw was good against united give him some time

  27. Tete10 says:

Does anybody have the highlights for the barca b game from yesterday??

  28. zos says:

i think the problem with Fontas being slow, although i like him, is clearly written in his profile in FC Barcelona site….

    Height: 1.86cm
    Weight: 89kilos…

89kilos!!!!!!!!!!!! He is overweight…. If he loses 8-10 kilos he may get that speed he is lacking thats his only prob for me…

    • Sascha-P says:

I guess you would also go to a bodybuilder and say "hey fatty, why don't you loose some pounds" :D … He is not overweight, i mean… look at him, it clearly seems to be muscles. Just give him time, he hasn't played a single la liga game and you guys bash of him.
Remember Cannavaro who wasn't the tallest but won so many duels in the air. He isn't the quickest, but he got promoted to the first side, so let us assume he found a way to cope with it. Positionell awareness, anticipation what so ever.
He doesnt need to be the paciest when he is smart

  29. E4zyE says:

Keirrisson is already training with Barca B….with Soriano injured its likely that he will play this season with Barca B.

Off Topic: I want to get Sancez on the back of my shirt but how will i spell it, also will it be Alexis or Sanchez. Or shall i get Xavi or Iniesta. I wanted Thiago but didnt have official number yet :( Was going to get Fabregas as a joke :P

    • E4zyE says:

It will be Alexis. I would pick Xavi. I already have Iniesta :P

      • Indy_Barca says:

Yeah, i checked on the official site. Alexis it is but i really wanted Thiago. Alexis don't let me down this season!!!! :)

Eric Abidal best humanbeing ever great role model.. Tell me what y’all think abt this article rather than talkin abt Fontas speed

  34. koko says:

What's with all this hate on Fontas. Yes the guy is a bit slow but let's see what happens when he actually gets to play. The ones who don't like him I bet are the same that were bashing Busquets when he first came to the forst team. You have no clue about football

  35. trinibarca.4.life says:

FONTAS has to start against madrid……fontas will easily be better than pique inm a year or two years time

  36. trinibarca.4.life says:

its only idiots who will bash fontas….what has the kid done wrong, he didnt even cost shyt….unlike the SNAIL chygrynsky.

All this talk about fontas being too slow is pathetic, it must be come from the bandwagoners and glory hunters

    • AjanleKoko says:

      Fully agree with this.
We paid so much for a defender that played really bad the few times he came on, and even cost goals. This kid didn't cost us a dime. We have to play him, win or lose. He will get better with time.

  37. busquets the silent says:

pique and fontas are like vidic and ferdinand of 2008. invincible defence.
pep would have prefered pique -marquez than pique-puyol.

chygrinskiy sold bcos fontas was far better than him!

  38. busquets the silent says:

before laporta left, hu said htat fontas and muniesa are the next big dfenders from la masia
