Newly signed Chilean footballer Alexis Sanchez trained for the first time under Pep Guardiola on Monday morning, working alongside Messi, Mascherano and Adriano. Puyol and Maxwell have worked separately from the group.

Two weeks ago, on July 25, Alexis Sanchez was presented as an FC Barcelona player. Today, however, was his first day of work at the Ciutat Esportiva. Alexis Sanchez trained alongside Messi and Mascherano. All three, after participating in the Copa America, have started the new season, along with Adriano, who joined the team during their American tour.

At nine on Monday morning and with a pleasant temperature for training, the returning South American players began their session. Before the work started, Guardiola greeted Messi and Mascherano, and he had a special greeting for Alexis. He chatted briefly with him as Lorenzo Buenaventura took charge of the first part of training. Shortly afterwards, Guardiola joined the group, to impart the assessments made by the coaching staff. The Chilean, in a good mood, has already demonstrated a good understanding with his new teammates. The players will return this afternoon at 19:00 for another session.

Both Puyol and Maxwell were on pitch no. 1 of the Ciutat Esportiva, though they didn’t work with their teammates. Puyol, still recovering from surgery on his left knee, worked with Juanjo Brau. Maxwell, who has been having trouble with his abdominal area, worked with Emili Ricart.

Yesterday afternoon, the blaugrana expedition arrived in Barcelona after an intense tour, and the players were given time off, not having to return to training until Tuesday afternoon. The coaches, however, were present at this morning’s session, even outnumbering the players on the field as Guardiola, Tito Vilanova, Juan Carlos Unzué, Aureli Altimira, the trainers, doctors and physios were all present.
