First session in Dallas

First session in Dallas

FC Barcelona held their first training session in Dallas on Thursday evening, in very hot temperatures. A large group of fans waited for the team at the location of their training session, Southern Methodist University (SMU), despite it being a closed session.

Despite the heat, more than 40 degrees, the public waited with enthusiasm for the arrival of the Barça players, who held their first training session in Dallas, on the pitch of Wescott Field at SMU. The majority have watched the session, which lasted approximately one hour, from outside the fences or from the building adjacent to the field.

After a long day (the players departed Miami at six in the morning) and having also taken an hour and a half flight, the session was relatively mild, with rondos and exercises working on passing and ball control. Despite the defeat at Sun Life Stadium, the good atmosphere continued as usual.

The training was different for some players, such as Carmona, who worked individually with a bruised right foot that he received in the match against Chivas. Like in Miami, Maxwell and Puyol did recovery exercises on their own, while Muniesa, nursing a muscle injury that will keep him out for three weeks, watched from the sidelines. Afellay, also injured, stayed at the hotel.

The players who featured for more time in Wednesday’s match (Keita, Abidal, Jonathan, Thiago and Cuenca), completed a less intense workout than the other players.

The session started late, at eight in the evening, after the sun had already set. Even with the delay, the heat was considerable, more than 40 degrees Celsius, and the players had to continuously hydrate themselves. However, the atmosphere was less humid than Miami, where the level of oppressive mugginess was very high.

The team will train again on Friday evening at 8pm (20:00) at Cowboys Stadium, in a session open by invitation only.

Barca needs to step up so we all forget about the blow against chivas.
The players need a metal boost in order to meet Real next Sunday.

    • BarcaJac says:

Club America isn't very good, and i blame some of the players on that team for swaying poor JDS while he was in Mexico for int'l duty. They'll also be playing inside (hopefully, cause we got a retractable roof) so it wont be as bad as Miami, heat-wise. air conditioning, baby!

  2. hamad_ali says:

Breaking new : Messi is laready in Barcelona , training for the super cup as he awaits to join with his team mates after their return from the US .

Also : Alexis Sanchez fully fit and ready to go . accourding to Chilean newspapers , he has spent his holiday with th national team's fitness coach to improve his fitness level for the coming season .

  3. BarcaJac says:

YES. Can't wait to see them tonight at the open training session in Frisco! Visca!

    • BarcaFanDallas says:

Sorry, bad news. They won't be training at the stadium in Frisco. They're going to train at the Cowboys Stadium in Irving, TX…. :-(

      • so we need an invitation for that?

      • BarcaJac says:

Bummed, but not really cause it would have been super hot out there! The Barca Dallas club president is working on getting members some VIP passes to the training so fingers crossed!!!!! If not, tomorrow's is going to be just as great.

        • BarcaFanDallas says:

I hope you get the passes, and I hope you have a great time! :-) Real Life commitments are keeping me home, but I'll be watching the game on TV, of course! It's cool just to know that the team is HERE! Too bad we're in the middle of this crazy heat wave…

        • Barca Dallas Club? How do I join?

        • Traci Ward says:

I really want to take my son to this 2night. Any news on passes?

  4. words says:

Some say it is 50 degrees celsius where they are training!!! Thats 125 degrees fahrenheit!!

    • BarcaJac says:

no way is that correct. It'll be 105, 107 tops. But they're actually moving the training session into the Cowboys Stadium with air condition. Now everyone knows why Texas has closed, air conditioned stadiums. Cause its friggin hot over here. Welcome to Texas, Barcelona!

    • hamad_ali says:

50 degrees ? they must be training in my country :P . it's 54 degrees in here .

    • BarcaFanDallas says:

It was 111F at our home yesterday at 3pm. By evening, it had cooled down to a balmy 102F…

      • Allison says:

I understand that it's been over 100* F for over 30 days now. But with the heat index I do believe that would make it seem like 125*. Good training for the World Cup in Qatar, right? ;o)

  5. Angel says:

Are they training at smu right now?

  6. Write_theFuture says:

Poor Muniesa, stupid injuries have kept him out of so many things this summer… :( . Even being able to get a whole half in a preason game was not possible and now he is out for weeks again. It's a shame, he is one of my favorite players in La Masia and he was always rated so highly, hope he recovers and gets more caps with the first team when possible. I remember he even got sent off in his debut…. what a badass XD

I hate this. Arsene Wenger, why can't you just let him go. The amount we offered is so close to what you asked for already.

    • twoleftfeet says:

Wenger dreams that keeping Cesc will solve all his problems. It won't. Next year he will be cheaper, while Arsenal won nothing yet again. They made the same mistake with Henry 4/5 years ago. Could have sold him for 30m in '06. They held on to him. Sold him for 19m the following summer. Arsenal needs better accountants.

  8. Messi10Villa7 says:

OT: Guys, I want to get your view on our defence. With Milito now sold and Puyol becoming more injury prone, surely we need a centreback more than Cesc? I don't really understand why we don't get another centreback. I don't want Busquets playing as a centreback because he plays so much better in the pivot role. I think Mascherano can fill in for the time being but he lacks the height needed. Fontas isa great prospect for the future but still lacks experience at the hughest level. Abidal can fill in too but I'd rather seem him at left-back. In my opinion, we NEED to invest in a centreback. I don't mean we should go out and spend 40 million euro on Thiago Silva, but search for a good ball playing centre back. Sakho springs to mind but with the new riches at PSG, it would be very unlikely.

    • Anonymous_69 says:

I think our defense would be better with another CB, but I am not worried. I would prefer another CB over Cesc anyday, but that's because I don't support Cesc buy, I don't see how he's needed. People seem to forget, but our defense had the best depth last season. There is no way our attack would have survived the injury crisis suffered by our defense. Puyol out, Milito no form, Pique bad form, Adriano injured, Maxwell injured/no form, Abidal in the middle, Mascherano in the middle, and our defense still remained solid enough. And it has only been upgraded this summer. With all the injuries, Milito still never got a look in, so replacing him with a decent defender in Fontas is pretty much like having one more defender than last season. Also, Adriano and Mascherano will be fully adapted from the start and will perform better. Abidal already has a great combination with Pique in the middle, so no need to worry about adgustments. The youth players are much more ready to step in, Montoya is now good enough to sub Alves, Bartra and Sergi Gomez are ready to play. Puyol will be back in early Septemember, and if he gets back to full form by October, our defense will be very secure in my opinion.

    • Erich says:

You want a good ball playing centre-back? Fontas!

Splashing 30+ million on a defender from another club, who will need at least a year to get used to our system is a waste of money.

The centre-back position is the most difficult to get used to in our system. Out Cantera players offer more guarantees than any player we could buy from another club.

    • Burning Witch says:

One injury doesn't make Puyol more injury prone. Pep gives him time to get fully recovered. Puyi will be our first team defender for many years.

  9. FCB says:

Bartra, Fontas, and Sergi Gomez from youth are possibilities for CB. I would have liked Botia but the time to get him has passed. I agree though signing another CB would have made me feel more at ease but with messi and sanchez up front the attack should be better.

As for cesc, I wouldn't mind if he came this summer but with Thiago's form right now, let's just wait until January or next summer.

  10. Edgar says:

I am excited for this game. I have VIP tickets. :D

  11. Pravachakan says:

    BREAKING NEWS!
    - Cesc is not going to Portugal for Benfica friendly (spanish dailies). So guys, SOMETHING’S DEFINITELY COOKING.

    • SAL says:

Yeah i heard that too but its yet to be confirmed. Theres so much fuss about cesc but all we really need is a young experienced centre back like hummels or sakho then we are set to go for the new season

      • Rodney says:

Oh yeah because Hummels wants to sit on the bench at barcelona instead of playing in front of pack crowds for borussia dortmund. Sometimes I get so annoyed at the notion that everyone wants to play for Barca or Madrid or Man United. Can't other teams have good players? Did Real Madrid really need Nuri Sahin?

      • Erich says:

A young, experienced centre-back. Now there's a contradiction. You find one like that, you should call Pep.

      • MessiDaBest says:

Or bring back Henrique. its been almost 2 years since he joined us and havent played a game for us. I dont know why we keep loaning him out.

  12. NaijaBryanbarca says:

I hate all dis fabregas shit, leave him at arsenal cos he’s not worth de amount of money arsenal is asking…lets get a centre back or we will have a problem nxt season

  13. Nicholas Gaffney says:

I really want one of those training jerseys

  14. rooney says:

fabregas didnt travel for benfica match. please, let it mean something.

  15. rooney says:

    guys,

It is a game between man utd vs new york cosmos (led by eric cantona). I know this is barca fan website but we are all football fans right? Since there is no barca game now, i just want to let you know there is a pretty interesting game going on now. It is a testimonial for paul scholes, an all-time great. There are also ppl like dwight yorke, murphy, salgado, friedel, viera, pires…

  16. Petertits10 says:

good news that its inside in an airconditioned stadium. lets kill club america and get the confidence level up very high for the supercopa so we can win it and shut up real moudrid for good!

  17. Leo says:

Any way of us getting into cowboys stadium…? I was totally looking forward to pizza hut park today…

  18. Traci Ward says:

I saw the training session tonight at Cowboys Stadium is a invitation only session. How do you get invited to this? I would love to take my son! TY!

  19. Leo says:

I don't think any of us are going to be able to go there… Unless they change it to open in the next couple of hours. The event at the moment is opened to people with invitation from sponsors etc… HOW LAME!!!

    • Traci Ward says:

Yea, I called guest services & they have no tickets/passes reserved for Barca Dallas. :(

      • Leo says:

Great :( . Barca Dallas only has 40 tickets or so anyways… Cowboys Stadium is the problem BTW. They have to staff the stadium for the session therefore they made it close to the public so they don't have to staff it that much. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • Traci Ward says:

Yea & that's not guaranteed. I would take the chance, but I don't want to sit in the heat with my son. It was a sure thing for us to get in then I would go. Sigh!

          • Leo says:

Same here… I don't really mind how far it is from where I live. But if I get there and become unable to get in…. That would be totally disappointing… I guess I'll try the SMU training session tomorrow

          • Traci Ward says:

What time is that? My son has club soccer practice in the morning!

          • Leo says:

9am. I just hope they don't cancel like this did today…

          • Traci Ward says:

Well they let alot of people in tonight w/o the invite & I didn't go! UGH! Stinks! Darn, that's when his practice starts!

  20. messi10 says:

can anyone tell me what the hell is wrong with barca?

  21. Traci Ward says:
