It seems former FC Barcelona defender, Michael Reiziger, is all set for a return to the game, with the former Dutch international rumoured to be set to take his first step into football management.
Reiziger, who spent seven years at the Camp Nou – making 173 appearances for the club in the process, is apparently being lined up to take the reigns at Club Deportivo Badajoz. Based in Spain’s Extremadura region, C.D. Badajoz currently play their football in Spain’s third division.
The former Barça defender still lives in the city of Barcelona but it seems the Dutchman may be willing to relocate over to Spain’s east coast, where the club is based, in order to be able undertake his first job as a coach. If reports in El Periodico de Extremadura are to be believed, then negotiations between Reiziger and the club are at an advanced stage with the deal set to be signed over the next week.
Beginning his career at Ajax, Reiziger then spent a season at AC Milan before making the move to Catalunya, brought to the club by then boss and fellow Dutchman, Louis van Gaal. As well as having a long and successful club career, Reiziger spent ten years representing his country, appearing 72 times for the Netherlands between 1994 and 2004.
With such experience and understanding of the game, we here at totalBarça will be very interested to see how our former defender’s managerial career progresses and of course we will keep you updated on any updates we receive.
