Former FC Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o has left Italian club Inter Milan to join Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala. By doing so he has become the world’s best-paid footballer. The British publication Guardian reports that the 30-year-old three-time UEFA Champions League winner “is set to earn €20.5m (£17.9m) after tax per season“. The three-year deal will see the Russian outfit pay Inter €25m (£21.8m) for the Cameroonian forward who will live and train in Moscow but will have to travel to the capital of Dagestan to play the home matches.
The Russian club’s official site read: “Anzhi expresses gratitude to the leadership of Inter Milan for their professional and constructive approach in the negotiations. Tomorrow the player will undergo a medical examination, following which the player will be awarded a three-year contract. On Thursday Samuel will arrive at the location of his new team and will begin preparations for the match against FC Rostov.“
