[Updated] Eric Abidal to undergo operation on Thursday

FC Barcelona’s official site has reported that the club’s Left/Central defender and France international Eric Abidal has been diagnosed with a tumour in his liver. He will be operated on by Dr. Josep Fuster Obregon in the Hospital Clinic de Barcelona on Friday, 18th March Thursday, March 17th. The club hasn’t released any details on whether the tumour is benign or malignant.

Eric Abidal has been enjoying arguably his best season in the Blue and Red, playing an exemplary role at left back and then in the center of the defense. On behalf of Cules all over the world, we at totalBarca wish him the very best for a  successful operation  and a quick recovery from his ailment. Long live King Eric!

  7. Culé_Lower_Saxony says:

This is really bad news, I'm totally shocked. For me the only thing that matters now is that Éric will be fully recovered, not for the club, but for himself. Èric, I'm with you and I wish you all the very best. Be strong!!!

  8. Guest says:

long live King, be with your family, enjoy this moment, enjoy beating the tumour. Just like your profession, you are the strongest!

  9. Jasper says:

I feel so bad for him. He's been playing so incredibly well this season, after years of working hard and never giving up. He gives everything he has, just remember that header/tackle from last week against Sevilla. And then this. I'm with you, we're with you, Éric, let's hope for the best.

  10. rusty says:

Hope everything goes smoothly and Abidal makes a quick recovery!

  11. Pepi Bican says:

I think its possible he has known about it much longer, but he and also the club dont want to bring this bad news too early, which is useless. But it is only a speculation. I hope, they catch it in early stadium and King Eric will be back soon and what is most important – fully recovered and healthy. Get well soon!

  12. Praveencule says:

  23. dAz says:

wish him the best, as he was sympathic to me for the first time, when he arrived…but i don't have doubts bout him…he's a fighting lion…SOM UN !!

  24. Taw says:

As much as I loved him before, Abidal gained infinite respect from me when I read a column about Muslim players in Barcelona (Keita, Abidal, Toure Yaya) fasting during Ramadan last season while still playing. As a Muslim myself, I've tried to play football while fasting myself, and I can tell you it's incredibly difficult and takes and immensely strong state of mind and body to do it (I ended up failing to complete my fast on a few occasions). Abi's a fighter in every inch of his body, and he shows that on the pitch as well as in his daily life practices.

Abidal's done the best that he can to serve God, himself, his family, and his team. May God bless with him a speedy recovery as well as a long and healthy life, so that he can continue doing these great things.

  25. Lotte says:

I send you my love and my thoughts, Eric! I'm not religious, but I will pray for you anyway.

  27. Barca fan says:

Guys… as Eric wrote in that piece of paper… "I will will back in Wembley".
Hope dies last… and i know he is a man of his word… :)

i pray everyday for his succesful recovery. Even if he doesnt make it to Wembley, the team will make it there, and dedicate the win to him…

    Visca King Eric!
