Eight Barça players nominated for UEFA.com Team of the Year
Eight FC Barcelona players have been nominated for the 2011 edition of UEFA.com’s Team of the Year. The Champions League and La Liga winners are the most represented team among all the nominees and also have coach Pep Guardiola nominated for Team of the Year Coach. Voting is open now and runs until 12:00 CET Monday, January 5th. The official announcement will be made Wednesday, January 18th.
The following FC Barcelona players were nominated in their respective categories: Víctor Valdés (goalkeeper), Dani Alves (right-back), Gerard Piqué (center-back), Javier Mascherano (center-back), Éric Abidal (left-back), Xavi Hernández (center midfield), Andrés Iniesta (attacking midfield), and Lionel Messi (forward). It is interesting to note that Mascherano, a defensive midfielder, was nominated under the center-back category after Guardiola began slotting him into the back four last season.
55 players and 5 coaches are shortlisted for the coveted 12 spots on the UEFA.com Team of the Year. Chosen by UEFA.com staff writers, the nominations are based on performance in club and national team competitions during 2011. In addition to the prestige of being names to the UEFA.com Team of the Year, the elected captain will also be presented with a €100,000 check to be donated to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

There is no Mourinho. Something worth celebrating!
POR QUE!!!! hahahahaaaa
Yo no entiendo, por que. Lol
W.G.A.S…
So you have to pick a player from every category plus one extra for centre-back and forward?
If that is the case:
Neuer
Alves Hummels Mascherano Abidal
Götze Xavi Mata
Iniesta
Messi Ronaldo
If it is possible to select the positions more freely:
Neuer
Alves Hummels Abidal
Busquets
Xavi Iniesta
Silva
Messi Gomez Ronaldo
Coach is of course Pep.
(I fear there is no way 'round Ronaldo if you want to look at it in a somewhat realistic way…)
Just saw that Busquets is not even on the list…well, that's the list's problem, not mine!
Mata ???? Are you sure???
No, I'm not. But no player from the left midfield category has performed on a world class level for the whole year. Although I have to admit that I haven't seen much from Hazard except YouTube-clips. (And never rate a player by watching his highlights videos!) The only full match I've seen from him was the Euro qualifying match between Germany and Belgium and while he looked very talented, he seemed somewhat immature in his game. Mata on the other hand has performed consistently good for Chelsea, better than I thought tbh, so I'm picking him.
Love how the defensive midfielder is always overlooked on teams of the year.
Where is alexis sanchez and wayne rooney? Where is defensive midfielder? Center midfielder is different from defensive midfielder. Xabi alonso, Busquet, Schweinsteiger ?
Valdes
Alves Mascherano Silva Abidal
Gotze Xavi Iniesta Bale
Messi Cavani
be realistic and put the second best player in the world in the list
He did…… Xavi or Iniesta right?
exactly…
Neuer,
Lahm, Silva, Hummels, Álvaro Pereira,
Robben, Xavi, Bale,
Hamsik,
Messi, Cavani
are you kidding me? No iniesta. Even if there is a better player than iniesta in the attacking midfielder position, i would still include him in my final eleven. Iniesta is right behind messi, dude.
You think Silva is good at man city? I think he is damn good and deserves a balon dor if i only watch man city's games. But Iniesta made silva look like shit in spain national team. I would include both Silva and Ozil plus iniesta to supply for messi as a striker.
…wrong silva, dude.
that's thiago silva, the centre-back.
Hmm …. my personal fave :p
Neuer/Joe Hart
Alves Pique/Hummels ThiagoSilva/Mascherano Abidal
Götze Xavi Iniesta Mata
Messi/Aguero Cavani/Hulk
Pep

===========================
prediction :
Neuer
Alves Pique Hummels Abidal
Götze Xavi Iniesta DiMaria
Messi Ronaldo
coach must be pep
I select look like you
Valdes
Alves Mascherano Pique Abidal
Busquets Xavi Iniesta
Messi Rooney Gomes
Valdes alves maschefano Ferdinan Evra
Busquets Xavi Iniesta
Messi Rooney Gomes
no ferdinand
no evra
no rooney
no gomes
and, much to my chagrin, probably not valdes, mascherano, or busquets
My UEFA Team of the year:
Valdes (best GK);
Alves (best RWB ) , Mascherano (Barca's best CB this year), Pique (if Pique wasn't on the list I'd pick Thiago Silva), Abidal (Barca bias);
Goetze (has been very impressive and got great future ahead [Robben a runner-up due to injuries]), Xavi (one of the best playmakers EVER!), Iniesta (one of the top 5 players in the world right now), Bale (great Champions League debut with Tottenham);
Messi, Falcao (best player in the Europa League).
Captain: Xavi
Coach: Pep Guardiola
Make sure to vote on http://www.uefa.com/community/teamoftheyear/index…
the list is so bias. where is busquets??? or rooney? or fabregas? or puyol? no alexis sanchez?
If the list was corrected this would be mine:
Valdes
Alves, Mascherano, Pique, Abidal
Busquets
Xavi, Iniesta
Alexis, Messi, Fabregas
Manager: Guardiola
pretty silly how its selected in a 4-4-2 formation when the formation is a little out-dated and you cant choose a certain selection of midfielders.
Valdes
Alves, Masch, T.Silva, Abidal
Gotze, Xavi, Iniesta, Bale
Messi, VanP
ideally i would have Pique in there, but i think he hasnt had the greatest last few months, due to injuries etc..
In midfield, i would have selected a 3… with xavi, iniesta and Yaya the holding player. Cant get much better than that using the list Uefa have right there.
in a front 3, i would have used VanP, Messi and Ronaldo… but as a front two i would favour VanP to partner messi… i mean, all three have had great calender years for club and country… and theres no way you can leave messi out…so vanP pips Ronaldo simply for attitude
The players listed, like Robben for example…could be great, but i dont think have been consistant over the year. I would love to have found room for David Silva, I really rate him… but like i said, the website has a stupid way of selecting the players
The Barca players pick themselves… consider it bias if u have to, but for the most dominant team in Europe, player for player there arent many better. Thiago Silva is a fantastic centre back, he would be awesome at Barca.
Pep is head and shoulders the best coach
Runners-up:
Neuer;
Lahm, Vidic, Silva, Pereira;
Robben, Modric, Ozil, Hazard;
Cristiano, Gomez.
Captain: Lahm
Coach: Klopp
flop selection
I think it will be like this:
Valdes
Messi-Messi-Messi-Messi
-Messi-Messi-Messi-
-Messi-
-Messi—Messi-
UEFA Team Of the Year 2011

Glad to see Masch getting some love!!! It's unlikely he'll win, but true talent is someone who can switch positions when needed in a time of crisis and still play like a boss. Best acquisition of 2010!
My very own first eleven. Valdes.
