All those stories about whether the Catalan club will again make a move for the Arsenal captain and the graduate of FC Barcelona’s La Masia can now be put to rest. For Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has confirmed the inevitable: FC Barcelona have contacted the London side to seek the services of the creative midfielder. But the European champions have made no concrete offer yet. “Yes, they have spoken to us about Cesc,” said Wood to the British publication Sunday Mirror. “They have been in touch, but so far they have not made a bid and we do not want to let him go.” As the saga continues, Wood acknowledged that the player would someday want to return to his former club. “But he comes from Barcelona so it is understandable if he wanted to go back. However, they have not made an offer so far.”
With Barcelona set to compete for extra titles in the form of the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup and Messi and Mascherano to be engaged with Copa America, Guardiola feels the need to strengthen his squad with additional signings of which Cesc Fabregas has always been a favourite ever since he took charge.
