El Mundo Deportivo is reporting on Tuesday that the negotiations to renew the contract of FC Barcelona defender Eric Abidal have stalled, with each side reportedly frustrated about the lack of progress. Abidal’s agent, David Venditelli, told Com Radio earlier this week that “so far we have yet to reach an agreement. There are two or 3 issues pending. We will continue to negotiate with Barcelona, but at this point the negotiations on a renewal have reached a dead end.”

Abidal, whose current contract expires at the end of this coming season, has declared his intent to retire at Barcelona. Venditelli continued: “Abidal feels indebted to Barcelona and to the fans for everything they’ve done for him. Lifting the Champions League remains his best moment as a footballer.”
