ok, this is bizarre, i actually posted the same post 7 times and it always disappears when i refresh. that's why i posted a "test" comment. i was trying to share a link that shows what nzm is talking about. maybe the link itself is making the board mess up. go to a site called www [dot] totalfootballmadness [dot] com and look for a video called "Mourinho's Sarcastic Protest After Pepe Red Card". Please take a look for yourselves. It looks like I was wrong and nzm was right.

Pepe goes studs up, onto and over the ball, and doesn't touch Alves. The force may be transfered through the ball, accounting for Alves' acrobatic pirouette. Though I highly disapprove of the theatrics, i can't help but feel that justice has been done given Pepe's thuggery over the last three games.

in one of the webmasters is reading this: i tested it again. if i paste the link into this message, my comment gets eaten up by the board. i see it when i click on "submit comment" but it disappears when i refresh the page. the first 7 times the link was inside a large paragraph, the last time it was just one sentence to explain why i'm posting it. sincere apologies if anyone, anywhere sees 7 copies of the same post!

You don't fuss rating Afellay? Plz don't rate players ever again

  9. David says:

Yeah, nobody anywhere else gets Gol TV and nobody else has a DVR with a high definition broadcast to see for themselves. It's a red card offense, and he did make contact with Alves.

  10. David says:

Alves should be in a series of films like the Matrix then, because he can defy physics with his falls. We don't have TV anywhere else, and we don't know what replays are.

  11. Halo says:

Good point about Mourinho's tactic – possible massive attack on Barca soil to get the much more paid-off out-goals.
I do hope that they will attack, play open and show some respectful football for heaven sake. (I also hope it would help us score another manita – lol).

  12. nzm says:

yup – that's what he did. Watch it again, and this time take off your tinted glasses.

  13. nzm says:

yup – seeing it as it is.

  14. nzm says:

    no I'm not.

  15. nzm says:

    yes, he does

  16. nzm says:

he didn't make any contact with Alves

  17. nzm says:

Hey – Pepe is one of my most loathed players in RM, but this time his tackle was pretty mild. No contact on Alves and barely got the ball.

  18. nzm says:

    thank you GeorgesK!

  19. nzm says:

GeorgesK – I replied to this before I saw your later post.

Thanks for being honest and coming back to report what actually happened. I doubt that any of these other commentators here will have the respect to do the same.

On GOL TV in Spain, they showed this tackle in slow motion about 20 times already, and from all the different camera angles.

Fact: Alves wasn't touched by Pepe in that tackle. Alves was totally play-acting. Pepe went studs-in on the ball and barely made contact with the ball.

If the red card was given for the studs-first tackle, then it was justified. If it was given for contact on Alves, it was not justified.

  20. nzm says:

Pepe went studs-on on the ball. No contact with Alves at all.

  22. Adrian says:

Looks like we're certain to progress to Wembley along with United.

Wembley will be like home for United. They hardly have to travel and have played there so many times and should obviousy have more number of fans inside the stadium. The grass is also big. Wenger has already criticised it.

BUT we're Barca. and we learn to play on any kind of pitch thrown at us.
Let's rip these guys a new ass****!!!

    BARCAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

  23. Adrian says:

    GOLATO!!!!

  24. nzm says:

anytime you want to come back and apologise, I'll be here. :-)

  25. David says:

And I bet you think the stunts in the movie "The Matrix" were real. If Pepe "didn't make any contact with Alves" and also "barely got the ball," what causes Alves body to change direction in midair and spin?

  26. David says:

A "studs up" tackle is never "mild," even if the player "misses," as you claim Pepe did. To say so would be akin to my saying "I tried to run over my neighbor with my car, but I missed, so everything's cool now."

Hi nzm, if you read spanish (maybe you do if you were watching the game on GolTV), check out the conspiracy theory:
    http://www.mundodeportivo.com/20110429/fc-barcelo

basically, they argue that the images were doctored, which maybe explains how it was possible for Alves to twist around like that. I'm not a fan of conspiracy theories and i think it's a little crazy to think that GolTV would go to such lengths to discredit Barça and protect Madrid. AS (or was it Marca) did some blatant doctoring earlier this year, but that's kind of expected of sports tabloids! I don't know if GolTV did it themselves or if they took the footage from someone else (the footage where the tackle is enhanced by a 'magnifying les') but if it was doctored, it would be so easy for any other TV station to prove them wrong, not to mention all the people recording these big games in HD on their computers. Well, one of those computer geeks did just that. Here is the complete 'proof' that one person is presenting of there being real contact between Pepe and Alves' ankle, using a Apple's AfterEffects software on HD footage of the game:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvCojUim3nM&an

i'm not saying i believe in conspiracy theories, I would like to see the 'original' footage this from an established source, such as UEFA's official footage, before making up my mind, but I have to admit it is all very strange.

They have to get thru Manchester United first!!

  34. BigBadBeast630 says:

You can only tell there was no contact with the slow motion. The referee doesn't have the luxury of an instant replay or slow motion while on the field. The Red card was completely justified from the referees point of view. Although lets face it the 10 crying Barcelona players definitely helped the situation.
