Thierry Henry seeking an exit deal

Thierry Henry seeking an exit deal

British tabloid paper Daily Mirror yesterday claimed FC Barcelona’s Thierry Henry, who will be 33 next season, is negotiating his departure from the Spanish treble cup-winners a full year before his contract is set to expire

The French international representatives were said to have met with the club’s technical secretary Txiki Begiristain in preparation for the player’s predicted move away from the Catalan club.

The former Arsenal hero has been steadily losing his grip on a starting eleven place in Pep Guardiola’s line-up all season, and was again benched for the match against Villarreal with the coach being in favour of 19-years-old Bojan Krkic to take the place of first-choice centre-forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, hastening the inevitability.

According to the paper, Henry has already dismissed a return to the English Premier League and is destined to follow David Beckham and ply his trade in the Major League Soccer. It was reported throughout the season that New York’s Red Bulls and Washington’s DC United are vying for his signature.

Henry, who joined Barcelona from Arsenal in a €24 m deal in 2007, has had a disappointing season as he has become a bit-part player and has known that he is on his way out for the past few months. While the stated release clause in his contract calls for €125 m, the Camp Nou entity is said to be willing to accept a payment consisting of the remaining one year’s worth left of his contract.

Based on published statistics, in the three seasons with FC Barcelona, Thierry Henry played 116 times, scoring 49 goals and assisted in 26 others; this season he only played 27 games, mostly as a substitute, managed to register 4 goals and 3 assists.

  1. If Henry actually does leave Barcelona for MLS and the New York Red Bulls this summer, then I would have at least one great highlight as an FC Dallas supporter (Hey! You have to support your local team, even if they are not very good!) — Dallas play the Red Bulls in September, and that is one game I would NOT miss! I would enjoy seeing Henry far more than getting to see Beckham. :-)

SAd :S:S Henry is a Legend and even if he didnt play well this season,He still showed great moments as a footballer and as a more as a person. Its really a shame he wasnt given enough chances,I am sure he could have taken advantage of his chances more than many other players,I was really happy that you took part in this wonderful team and sure from now I will catch your news at MLS.I think his goal vs Xerex was his last in the blaugrana colours.

Thank god, I hate Henry in Barca.. out of 3 seasons he had about 3/4 of a good season….

And his comments prior to the Arsenal match along with his effort inthe first leg is a disgrace to cules.

Forgive me for not worshipping him but I didint watch or care about Arsenal in the early 2000's I was busy cursing Gaspart ; )

Henry on the field is really not too much use for Barca. even for his experience he is too slow thinker now and better players are avaialbe in Barca. But having such a legendary player with his experience in the squad has helped many players develop like Bojan and Pedro. I wish him the best of lucks.

  8. I missed getting to watch him play, but as I was learning about international soccer back in 2007-2008, I knew his name (from Youtube videos).

If he goes to the Red Bulls, you'll have to buy a Red Bulls jersey. ;-) BTW, I feel sorry for your team . . . they are doing worse than Dallas, so far, and that is not easy to do! I have mixed feelings about someone as good as Henry coming to MLS. It would be a great pleasure to see him in person, but I will totally admit that MLS teams are probably comparable to second-division teams (maybe). I cannot watch MLS on TV anymore . . . Barca has spoiled me so much! :-)

a true legend of the game and i'm so glad he had a great season with us last year, emphasised by his figures 116 games, 49 goals and 26 assists in three years, the first of which he was adapting and injured and the last of which he has not managed to perform to a level he would like. a great contribution from a great player, although i will still see him as the arsenal striker who dominated the EPL for so long, if people didnt see him in those days then you missed out

It's the end of a journey. Henry has faded to an unregognizably poor form of his old self.

But I will always remember him fondly. His brace against Madrid was excellent. And I will not forget that he played against Man United with an injury.

    Thanks, Titi.

i really wish him 1 or 2 good seasons in the usa before he quits, he definitly has earned it

  18. Hes no longer useful for the squad, but still deserves respect for being a great person and the things he achieve back in the days & eventually all the great players began to fade and retired thats life.

I live in New York. So naturally I am happy the Red bulls are doing well after such a disastrous season last week. It would be great to see Henry every game(season tickets here).
what i dont want is Raul…for obvious reasons. Henry or Del Piero will be awesome.

*after such a disastrous season last *YEAR*

  21. Barca fan says:

Bye bye Titi. and Thank You for the 26 goals last season. Without them our 6 cups wouldn't have happened.
My favorite Henry moments at Barca:
    1) Real Madrid brace… 2-6
    2) Valencia hattrick at camp nou
    3) Lyon away goal
    4) Valencia brace at mestalla
    5) Bayern Munich goal at Camp Nou
and finally…6) his commitment and determination at the champs league final in Rome.

    Wish him all the best.

I am very dissapointed sfter hearing about the real di maria agrrement. This was one of my main choices for the lw position. The only better choice would be ribery, and he is alot older. I think di maria will be regarded as one of the very best in the future and he would have been a perfect choice for barca. Thogh 35mil seems like alot, I dont think it really is for a player of his level. He has all the speed and creativness in the world. For me villa cant even be regarded as a a solution for the lw and his age is really bothering me. He will loose alot of speed the next few seasons, and i fear that we will be very dissapointed if buying him. Spending 35mil on di maria seems like alot but spending 40mil on villa just seems stupid. Atleast with di maria you wil have a player who will develop and become better, villa will do the opposite. the worst part about this is real dont really need him, and are properbly only doing it because they know we are interested. I will be so dissapointed if villa is our main target this season, especially if he is meant as a substitute for henry, and if he is a replacement for zlatan i would rather buy someone like aguero who is already better than villa. Still hoping for david luis, cissokho, cesc and ribery, but we will properbly also let real get first picks on them too.
