Wenger: “Cesc is so important to us, we want to keep him”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants an end to speculation linking Cesc Fabregas with a move to Barcelona.

Wenger has already rejected a £30m bid for his captain from the Catalans and Barca president Sandro Rosell has admitted a deal is unlikely in 2010.

“Now the story has to stop,” Wenger told Arsenal’s official website. “Cesc is our captain, he is so important to us. We want to keep him.”

“We can only influence our own behaviour,” added Wenger. “We always had a consistent attitude and were always reluctant to talk about Cesc’s departure.

“It is very important we give the impression that just because somebody wants a player from us, we do not just give in.

“We have shown our love and care for Cesc since the start. I believe Cesc loves the club, has shown his attachment to the club many times and I am very confident the story will end there.”

It's better for everybody this saga to be ended. We should buy more players, maybe 1-2, and not pay so much attention on Cesc because in the end we can be in worse position… Cesc is always welcome but if Arsenal does't want to sell, than we have to stop wasting our time.

WELL SAID M8! BUT NXT YR HOPEFULLY WE CAN GET CESC

Next year its the same bull crap…this is the 3rd summer there is a cesc transfer rumor and he's still there. I see him staying because 1) the price is outrageous, 2) Wenger doesn't want to deal, 3) I don't see cesc making a legit effort to make it happen. Cesc isn't talking and isn't helping which leads me to believe there are other motives because if he was serious about coming he'd submit a transfer request. I'm sick of hearing of this it's stupid. Forget about this guy and promote someone from the academy or buy someone else, let him rot in arsenal for all I care because until there is a stronger effort on his part it won't happen.

Totally agee. Cesc enjoys toying with Barcelona and their fans. He makes gaga eyes and makes coy litle statements and then laughs as the board scrambles to sign him while telling Wenger "its in your hands" and Wenger will obviously never sell while Cesc has no problem staying. Let Cesc stay and be king of Arsenal and give our kids a chance

Its really the right time for those stories to stop,Its time for us to sign another Defensive midfileder and another central back and see whether Pep wants another midfielder,if he wants hen we should go for Ozil or anyone else,we cant wait every summer to sign Cesc and then Arsenal tell us that he is not for sale.

I like Cesc (ok not so much, but he is nice guy), but he is at Arsenal, he is captian, it was his choice to sign contract, and I wonder why he started all this talks with press and so about Barca, if he want to quit Arsenal, he shouldn't renew cotract and made clear statment, instead he talks a lot about Barca, called it his house (I understand his feelings to club etc), talks about returning to Barca, praising Guardiola. On other hand he told us that Arsenal is his club, that Wenger tought him evrything etc. Sound like a schizophrenia for me. I know Barca staff didn't behave good, all this talks about how we love and need Cesc was waste of time and was also harmful to club image, but it happened and we can't change it. But let's think about next season, let's imagine, we bought Cesc, I imagine he is sitting on bench, he told many times that he is unpatient and hate not to play (I completly understand it), we bought him, so we celebrate success, but what about price we had to paid, I don't only think about money, but also club reputation, publicity, relations with other clubs. But now let's take into consideration opposite situation, Cesc is Arsenal player, all that gossips, PR actions, were waste of time (and money). How about Cesc-Arsenal fans relation? How this will affect player image in the club? It's complicated situation, ans no matter how it will end, I hope it will end as quick as possible!

Barcelona tell Arsenal: £40m for Cesc Fabregas, and that's our final offer!

Barcelona are preparing to make a final bid of almost £40million to take World Cup winner Cesc Fabregas from Arsenal in time for the start of the new season. The Gunners captain is on holiday after celebrations in Spain last week, when he was tr…icked into wearing a Barca shirt, before a return to London in two weeks for pre-season training. But new Barcelona president Sandro Rosell is committed to taking the player back to the club where he trained as a boy.

Fabregas has told manager Arsene Wenger that he wishes to join the Catalan club but Arsenal have been infuriated by the implication from Barca that the player's return this summer was inevitable.

I think that we need Cesc ! all people are saying 40M are to much but this 40M will let us win the treble next season beleive me! we really need him! plz sell ibra for 40M and buy cesc !!

cesc-iniesta-xavi-busquets-villa and messi this is mourinho's nightmare!!!

NO one can stop this team! even if they play with 20 defender, not only 10!! with iniesta-xavi and cesc creating chances we can wn all games!! ibra is slow and will make alot of from problem for us,while cesc will be a big addition he is young and he is our future! so sell him and buy cesc! ( it's like a swap! as if we paid nothing!!)

      • khaledbarcalebanon says:

last year our problem against inter and small teams was lack of creativity !! we needed a player like cesc to solve this problem! next season we will face alot of problem like this! small teams and even big teams playing with 10 defenders against us:S so we need creative midfielders!! CESC is the solution!! ibra will be a weakness in the line-up cuz he don't move in the box like eto'o used to do! we need to put VILLA as a stricker and messi, pedro or INiesta wingers ! and cesc-xavi and busquets in midfield :D :D

SO PLZ sell ibra let him go to milan or mancity! ti a team that fits his style! so he can return to his previous level! (ibra is great i no, but he don't fit in barca's system :S)

I think some of you (khaledbaarcalebon) are really overatting cesc too much, stop making him look like "the" footballing midfield god.

  10. Del Toro says:

    Villa – Ibra – Messi
    Andres – Xavi
    Busquets
    Abidal – Puyol – Pique – Dani

Where does Cesc fit? Not to mention we have Bojan and Pedro on the bench, who both need playing time to gain experience. We don't need Cesc – especially now that Ibra is staying.

    • Jenny says:

well, we called it total football so everyone will fit nicely dont need a fix position for all of them… After all its just a lineup before kick off.. Dont get shock it pique in the striker postion because it is total football. They can play anywhere they want as long they help the team to win..

  11. Barcaporvida says:

I think Cesc had somewhat of a reality check after seeing the remarkable performance of Busquets in the WC. He realized, it is better for him to start as captain on Arsenal, then to warm the bench as a sub on Barcelona

  12. Beltrocco says:

    @Del Toro
I'm sure he does fit watch.
    -Valdes-
    -Alves-Pique-Puyol-Adriano-
    -Xavi-Cesc-Iniesta-
    -Messi-Ibra-Villa-

I find this formation much more strong because we have the two quick brazilian wings to attack and defend and the three star spanish middles with a strong forward line, because I know Ibra did not have a great seaon last year but we should give him one more season. Cesc would fit perfectly, Otherwise if we don't get him we cant have Busquets I dislike him so much but he is also very young so I cut him some slack but if we do not get Cesc, we would need to get Mascherano or Ozil they are very young also with a good defensive and offensive mind.

    • Scrappy1 says:

cesc as DM?? What a rubbish lineup, that team will get demolished on the counter.

    • Clarie says:

      this formation is so disgusting
      this is better :
      Valdes
      Alves – Pique-Puyol-Adriano
Xavi-Busquets (the best DM in the world considering his age) -Iniesta
      Villa – Bojan-Messi

      subs : Ibra – Pedro – Abidal
CESC has no chance playing in the best team in the world , he only deserves Arsenal not anymore…

    • mr.m says:

With two flying Ferrari's as wingbacks we need a very good defensive midfielder and Cesc isn't.
He's a playmaker and shouldn't play down the pitch and clean everything up. That isn't his mission.

Let Cesc be a Arsenal till Xavi decides to put his shoes on the bench (and if a talent of ours haven't proved to be a good playmaker)
Arsenal without Cesc is a midtable team with no experience.

  13. FCB says:

They need him more than us. So lets stop this obsessive Cesc hunting. In reality he isnt that needed and there are plenty of other positions who would benafit from a reinforcement far more.

  14. Aboud says:

get Cesc in 2-3 years , when xavi turn grey
