Russia and Qatar awarded FIFA World Cups

The FIFA Executive Committee has chosen Russia to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup™, while the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ was awarded to Qatar. FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter announced the result of the FIFA Executive Committee’s secret vote on Thursday 2 December 2010 in Zurich’s Messe.

Congratulations to both countries, but especially to Qatar as Pep Guardiola was one of the ambassadors for the nomination of Qatar for the 2022 World Cup.

Congrats to Russia and Qatar, even though I would had wished the world cup would had been in the USA where I live at now or Honduras the country I'm From. I just wished to please the world cup don't become a disappointment because so to be honest South Africa wasn't as big commotion and successful as other world cups even though I agree every country world wide deserves to be host of world cup atleast once.

  5. rubayan says:

  6. Frank says:

    @Kriyx

    ROFL
You've got your facts totally wrong

    What next?
An Indian or Pakistani is an Arab just because they are Sunni?

  7. Frank says:

    Dude, stop generalizing

I dont know what perception you've got about the region but as someone who lives in Asia, i know very well that Qatar is one of the safest places in the region.

I havent heard of any major issue over there.

You'll find Qatar much safer any day that Mexico

  8. BarcaFan says:

I like many of you're posts, but please do speak ENGLISH, I haven't got a clue, what ''uncomfortable equivocations for 2000'' means.. Thank you!

  9. Don Omar says:

Mexico along the border with US is THE MOST DANGEROUS SPOT ON EARTH! More so than Qatar. FACT!

  10. CristianoRONALDO7 says:

I don't wanna hear some American redneck screaming "OFFSIDE!" for a goal kick….

  11. messi says:

ozil just go back to ur madrid site..this site is not for you..

  12. messi says:

    wow..that's why i like pep…

  13. pep says:

    that's the spirit…

  14. hamad_ali says:

Dude , it's simple > Youtube > Qatar's world cup bid . then you'll see the stadiums that make the stamford bridge and the white heart lane look like cottages .

  15. Ghani says:

I have been living in Qatar for the past 15 years. From past experience (Asian Games 2006) cost of living will triple especially rents, forcing middle class families to go back home while the father stays back to earn a living. Qatar does not deserve the 2022 WC. Brazil 2014 is probably going to be the last genuine world cup host.

  16. 2010zil says:

Yes, I was trying to be calm, but really? Basic politeness makes me a madridista now, because I am not insulting other countries? I have been a cule since birth, my family has been cule and I was born in Barcelona. My grandfather fought against Franco and for what? So that I could watch people pretending to be fans insult other countries and make the fans of this club look rude? How lovely.

  17. The Egyptian Cule says:

All Arabs support Qatar ,, and also Pep :)

  18. The Egyptian Cule says:

may be the end of the world :D

  19. ali_riz says:

    its not soccer mate…its football..

  20. ali_riz says:

its about the passion…arabs have a lot of passion for football and they have the money to compete with anyone in the football world..

  21. kurasari says:

Aussies got robbed!! I heard woman are not even allowed into the stadiums? FFS, you can't even drink there

  22. AlegriaDoPovo says:

hmmm so i'm pretending to be a culé.You're free to say whatever you want, the thing is I don't give a flying F.

  23. Claire says:

I wasn't surprised about Russia – unlike apparently the rest of England who thought they were nailed on. I was shocked about Qatar though, but I guess Pep is the modern day King Midas.

  24. 2010zil says:

Well I was talking to "messi" there, not you. I mean, unless that's you as well.

  25. Suf says:

I really don't understand comments like above. Why should the USA host it again when it hosted it not too long ago? Just because its the USA? If you want to talk about disappointment you should look at the negative and bias in your comment first before saying your really sorry Pep lobbied for Quatar, shameful. To the rest of you, who are making making negative comments about a country you haven't even visited, show some respect, If you want to complain wait until Quater gives you something to complain about if anything. This reminds me of the crap said about South Africa before they hosted the world cup and well done to FIFA for making football a true global brand for the people of the world and not for selective countries. USA has never reallu braced "soccer" until not too long ago, so think twice before posting (thats not for the above poster but for all those who say its not a football nation).

  26. Suf says:

and FIFA are going to read your comment – really? Your ignorance sucks

South America, Russia and Middle east, goodgoing :)

  27. Andreas Moser says:

And I know exactly WHY Russia and Qatar won: http://andreasmoser.wordpress.com/2010/12/03/fifa

  28. AlegriaDoPovo says:

    you were talking about me.

  29. 2010zil says:

I was talking about you when I was replying to you. I said that to "messi" because calling me a madridista is the worst insult you can give me. You are not "messi" so nothing I said to him applies to you. If you think you were insulting other countries though, and want to come into my conversation with someone else, more power to you.

  30. Suf says:

Moser, if you were genuine about what you said, then you would have admitted how evil the USA are themselves, with their war mongering. Next time you want to make a point try to hide the bias you spewed there. This is about football and Quatar has not caused grief to any other country nor are they in a war or full of terrorists like certain goverments so based on that I am glad they won and USA never if you want to take it there.

Football wise, I am glad a nation that has not hosted before is doing it and I can see a country like Qatar taking this seriously and going all out to accommodate people as that is the mentality there, just ask Guardiola or any ex-pat who has gone there. So please don't post your political garbage here especially with such bias and blindness. This is about football and FIFA made a good footballing decision for 2022. Congrats to Guardiola too :)
