Rate the Referee: Zaragoza – Barcelona

Match referee Miguel Angel Pérez Lasa showed only five yellow cards in this afternoon’s game at La Romareda stadium in Zaragoza, but his performance has still come under scrutiny. Only two minutes into the second half, he brandished a straight red card to Zaragoza midfielder Leonardo Ponzio for a foul on Dani Alves which left Zaragoza with only 10 men for the reminder of the match. Zaragoza coach José Aurelio Gay noted angrily after the game that Pérez Lasa had “destroyed” his team.

What did you all make of Pérez Lasa’s performance? Was Ponzio’s red card deserved? Should Pérez Lasa have done more to clamp down late in the match as tempers were flaring?
