Some FC Barcelona fans were worried when old “friend” Alberto Undiano Mallenco was selected to officiate today’s local derby with Espanyol. A report in Sport earlier this week suggested an anti-Barca bias; and who could forget Mallenco’s absurd ejection of Dani Alves in the same fixture from last season?
But here we are post match: six goals, eight yellow cards and a decidedly more restrained performance from Mallenco who stamped his authority on the match early on. Still, a few questions linger: did Alves really deserve a card for “diving?” And was there any intent in Pique’s handball, for which he will miss the next match? Sound off in the comments and let us know what you thought of Mallenco’s performance today.
