Quote of the Day: Xavi Hernandez

Quote of the Day: Xavi Hernandez

“As you have not touched the ball all night, you can have it for a while.”

Xavi was quoted to have said to Real Madrid’s Lass Diarra in the aftermath of the 5-0 drubbing that Barca gave.

According to Spanish journalist Xavier Bosch, in a piece he wrote for ‘EMD’, the incident was supposed to have happened in the tunnel:

“Following the fracas created by Sergio Ramos [at the end of the match], the turmoil continued in the tunnel. The tension was still at a high that Xavi, with ball in hand, placed it into the hands of Diarra eliciting a dumb-founded reaction from the Madrid midfielder, to which the maestro promptly said [the above].”

  1. Please bring some condoms with you, will ya??? Some girl might get pregnant out there…

  2. Amanda says:

I really hope Xavi didn't say anything remotely like this. Despite all the anger the players would have been feeling, it's important to remain gracious in victory, even a hard fought victory. We can't abhor CR7 for making these kind of gestures/comments, then applaud Xavi for them.
Of course I'm going to get tons of thumbs down for saying this. :)

  3. Donchino says:

I wouldnt want to play against Barca if i was a professional footballer.. You keep on running after the ball without touching it.. Pity Poor Madrid players

  4. runnie says:

just jumped up on the bandwagon, dude? lol

  5. rogerevans says:

I agree that I'd need absolute proof before I'd believe Xavi said that.

  6. Messilona says:

The tension was very high and I believe he couldve said that.

  7. rahul says:

LOL. i love xavi's attitude. he is not a pushover yet a great person. yeah you got tell them maestro!

  8. AP110 says:

he should have told it to crynaldo

  9. cr7 says:

anybody thinks that this comment more suited to Álvaro Arbeloa…………

  10. BarcaBarca says:

Well its easy to said that, but if you or me at his place, maybe we will say worse words…………

  11. guest says:

or about iniestas reaction to cristiano ronaldo during the incident with pep
i think iniesta really "hates" ronaldo, because he is always there when sth happens, he was the first to "attack" ronaldo after he pushed pep

they are just human and they feel the heat of the game as everyone does

  12. pezan says:

Haha im a Barca and Xavi fan – but I really feel there's some serious double standards going on here, encouraging Xavi for a comment like this while bashing Ronaldo for everything and sometimes even nothing without reason…

  13. guestcule says:

    snap!

  14. Harshawardhan says:

this is the most hilarious comment i have read in a long long time. thankyou!

  15. Write_theFuture says:

Geez guys, for those saying that that was immoral or a jerk, just stop. It is hilarious and true. I respect him so much more. He didn't swear or anything, he didn't say anything that was pure mean; it was a taunt that and human being would make after having their ankles kicked all match. Think: you just DESTROYED your arch rival after their team was talking sht all year, you had 80% possesion and 5 goals against the supposed "second best team in the world." This is a century old rivalry, they have been fouling you and saying sht to you all match, cinical, rough tackles, and you wouldn't say this? This demonstrates love for Barca, not meanness. Xavi is extremely nice and down to earth, only thing is that he is loud, which does not mean he is mean. Every team needs a talker, and those are xavi and puyol, natural leaders. I swear if i were in his shoes and that clever i would have said that not only to lass, but crynaldo, mou, ramos, and the lot.

The difference between us and mou, ronaldo, is that we talk after winning – not before. Notice how mou and crynaldo were so arrogant and what happened.

Face it. Xavi is freaking hilarious.

  16. vacilinha says:

Did he really say that? I guess it was the heat of the moment, because he usually has more class.

  17. GeorgesK says:

i'm kind of disappointed if he said that. but as people have said, everyone's human and the tension was sky high. and of course, i was thinking it, as was everyone in the bar where i watched el clasico. there was an old man next to me, drinking his brandy; he spent the entire second half yelling at the TV "where's the ball? where's the ball? come and get it! come and get it!" and laughing deliriously into his glass.
but if Xavi did say it, too bad it was to Lass. He's one of the 'honourable' real madrid players. he's a tough player, like Xabi Alonso or Yaya, but he never plays dirty. i have lots of respect for him, and i think Xavi would too. now, if that comment was made to Ronaldo or Carvalho or any of the other whining egomaniacs, that would be a different story.

  18. imacule says:

lmao, I can't picture Xavi saying that, but if he did, that is some funny stuff!:)

  19. katherined88 says:

I don't quite believe Xavi said this, but at the same time I wouldn't be too surprised if he did. I could see him getting pretty heated over what happened at the end of the match – he's an EXTREMELY competitive player, which is why he THRIVES on the pressure of Clasicos and tends to take charge every time we face Madrid.

Unfortunately, there's a VERY fine line between passion/playing with heart and stepping over the line into an overly-competitive, death-to-all-opponents kind of mindset. I'm actually surprised Ramos-type situations don't happen more often. It must be really hard to tread that fine line for 90 minutes straight….

  20. barcelonafan10 says:

    I don't believe it either.
    1. I don't think xavi is that kind of a player.
    2. I think lass was like the only Madrid player who didn't play dirty.

  21. Don_Iuis says:

    Hahahaha OWNED. DAMNNNN

  22. El Nino says:

It was also the closest the ball was going to get in the Barca net!

  23. stark says:

he should've told that to benzema as well LOL

  24. VarunMe says:

    Man crush, totally legitimate !
