Madrid is more nationalistic, so they have more respect for Barca players like Xavi Iniesta (not all mind you) then Barca have for Madrid players. You just have to see the National team and support for them in Bernabeu (Spain's national stadia)
But then madrid don't have many players to be liked as well anyway, Iker is one, Alonso is fair and straight, rest are just cocks on legs.
