Pep prefers a cantera to backup Alves

Catalan sports paper ‘Sport’ report that the Blaugrana technical staff are aware of another position that needs to be strengthened in the squad - the right side of the defense.

It is clear that Dani Alves is the undisputed holder of this postition. Although the Brazilian is fireproof and plays most of the minutes in the course of a season, Guardiola needs a replacement in case of any injury to Alves, like has happened this season. Sport also claim that Pep does not want to force Carles Puyol into leaving the center of the defense.

The possibility of a transfer that can meet these requirements was initially being considered, but Pep believes that he can find what he needs in the academy, as has happened with Busquets and Pedro before. The coach knows the potential of the academy youngsters Martin Montoya (19), Marc Bartra (19) and Albert Dalmau (17), and is convinced that he has good replacements to fill in when needed.

I agree 100%, give any youngster a chance rather than splashing the cash.

  2. odn-barca4life says:

Dalmau is the new alves. Montoya is very good as well. They will be the new Sylvinho and Gio van bronkhorst duo on the right hand side

    • Mido_cule says:

but Alves has still about 5-6 another years with Barca so I guess if Montoya made it here it will be very hard for Dalmau as I fear for him I consider Dalmau as a superb talent and I love him so much but I think it will be hard for him to make it here as Montoya is a bit ahead of him due to the year diff.

      • odn-barca4life says:

Dalmau is the better of the two in my opinion. But he is 17. 5-6 years still makes him just 22-23. They are clearly the future though

I don't really know, I think it might be Pep's followers. Cos since fcbtransfers.blogspot.com closed down, Pep recomended us to follow this site. Anyway, this is an excellent blog, glad you joined! And yes, I think there is a Barca facebook thing as well but I haven't checked.

  7. s@pien says:

Do not forget Martin Caseres for that position! He is doing very good at Juventus on loan!

    • Fenderek says:

But it's Juventus, not Barca. Wouldn't you agree it's not quite the same level?

Anyway, they have an option to buy which I think they will use, so there is no point even arguing about it.

  8. Even I would agree with using an atletic player as backup.

  9. montoya, bartra, dalmau who is gonna be? Is gonna be decided on who shows their ready in pre-season…But my vote goes to montoya due his experience at a higher level with barcelona atletic..But if Barcelona atletic goes to segunda divsion that be great dalmau would play, while montoya as understudy for alves.I didn't want to say anything until season is over, but seriously I hope chiggy leaves and maybe marquez has one season left..
    defense for 2010/2011
    Alves/Montoya-Pique/Milito-Puyol/Fontas-Abidal/maxwell

  10. this is great. our youth work is enviable. kaka has cost real madrid 65 millions but our youth product andres iniesta is the best attacking midfileder. xabi alonso has cost real madrid 35 millions, but our youth product xavi hernandez is the best playmaker. pepe has cost real madrid 30 millions but our youth product carles puyol is the best central defender. cristiano ronaldo has cost real madrid 94 millions but our youth product leo messi is officially the best player in the world. we made history in winning the sextuple with eleven canteras in the " sextuple squad " ! this makes us proud. we have a philosophy, we have identity, we have success.

    finally some good news.

  12. No need for buying RB. Alves want/is able to play a lot of matches, and buying is unnecessary. Dalmau is way too young to play next year, maybe Montoya or Caceres.

  13. Pete says:

Hopefully we don't buy anyone except Cesc in the summer. He's a world class player and he will succeed.

We are too incompetent regarding transfers, and too brilliant with the youth system to do anything else.

    • Nilly says:

'We are too incompetent regarding transfers, and too brilliant with the youth system to do anything else.'

      Word! LOL!
      We shouldn't buy players!

  14. barcayute says:

hw r they 2 young tell me we can choose the best one in cantera n send the others on loan 2 gain mo experience n playin tym n they can become versitile defenders who knows

  15. ibrACMessi says:

Yes, I would too and btw I saw Caceres play; very good. There aren't much good RB's out there anyway and we got to be lucky with Alves,…even Chelsea wants him.

  16. I would prefer to add Bartra to the squad next summer. Maybe Dalmau is more talented, but Bartra did well in his debut this winter and he is older. It would be stupid to use money on the RB when we have players like Dalmau, Bartra and Montoya.

    バルサの右ラテラルは当分ダニの天下なので、非常時にカンテラ選手を呼び出せば十分です。
