Offside: Would Cristiano Ronaldo fit in at Barcelona?

Real Madrid and Portuguese International forward Cristiano Ronaldo appeared on the Madrid-based television program Punto Pelota to discuss his first season with his new team. Among the questions, he was asked if he would ever consider playing for FC Barcelona. This was his answer:

“Madrid is my home and Real Madrid is my club, but I can never say that I won’t ‘drink from that water.’ I don’t know what will happen in the future. One never knows; although, I would like to retire at Madrid.”

  1. Blaugrana says:

He has the qualities, but he really lacks the Barça attitude.

  2. Messilona says:

We dont need Catwalk models at Barca.

  3. Anon says:

If he could learn to pass… and also not be such a douche. But him on our left wing wouldn't be bad.

    • zen monkey says:

actually he could learn to pass. not as that big natural talent as messi but he's developing all the time, he's becoming more and more versatile

      • Anon says:

By "Learn to pass" I meant that he would actually WANT to pass. Because as off now he seems to always want to go it alone.

  4. Beh. says:

Cant say no to such a player, even if i hate him.
    Imagine the trio of

    CR9-Villa-Messi

    Wow ;)

  5. ibrACMessi says:

I hate him, but if he'd come to Barca he'd have to change his attitude and alot!

  6. Emma says:

I don't see him fitting in….and I don't like his attitude, stay at RM

  7. Scantee says:

We don't need him, we are do with our squads we have his so arrogant

  8. bhouse says:

He would be a great fit at left wing for us. We would then have another winger who can dribble inside and shoot and create space for himself inside the box, much like messi. You can contain messi to an extent by keeping a couple players in his space between him and the goal (like inter did), but you couldn't do it if we had CR9 too.

  9. Varun says:

    New Barca style under CR9

Valdes passes to CR9, CR9 does the walkover, another and another one, defender gets bored, CR9 runs down the line leaving the rest of Barca players in his shadows by his blisteing pace,
He reaches the 18 yard line, He shoots for goal, oooo Ball goes for a thrown in for the opposing team, a yard out from corner flag.
    2 minutes into the match.

  10. Yannick says:

He's got pace, skills, he always wants to win.. But on the other hand he can be extremely selfish and, well, he's a Madridista now.. The answer a year ago would have been yes, but now..

  11. barca4 says:

He is so Selfish and GAY. so NO

  12. Carolus says:

Why would gay be an issue? and I don´t think he is, just looks like one. ;)
He would make Barca with Messi unstoppable, but he would have to change his attitude otherwise I would never want him here….

  13. l3sswat3r says:

    1) he'd never be welcome at barca, just doesn't fit the barca mold
    2) if anyone from barca said they might eventually play for madrid the fans would drive them out. madridistas are just glory hunters though so they won't mind so long as he scores

  14. MANINTHEMIDDLE says:

i think he's really going to another club. but is it barca or not??? if so he will be a good backup for the likes of ineasta in ATTACK MID – FEAILD OR HE CAN BE AT BOTH WINGS or evan a center stricker. but one thing is for sure is all the free kicks will be his to take:D
isn't scolarri the one how said "c.ronaldo should go to barcelona"??????

  15. thomas says:

let's be honest: guys he is the best left winger at the moment. he is always searching for perfection and he isn't a bad passer! i don't really like him as a person but as a player i respect him for his attitude. he often changed games on his own. not much player can do what he did.

  16. Nordin says:

This guy fits in any team, eventhough most of us hate him, but hi squality is undeniable. After Messi he is the best in the world.

    Ronaldo Villa Messi

    Iniesta Xavi
    Toure

==> would be devestating and fearsome attack.

  17. Marc4barca says:

attitude means nothing to me as long as he listens to the coach and he can certainly fit in barca but we don't want him and we don't need him, i don't why but buying ronaldo would seem like a lack of faith in messi.

  18. krankuba says:

selfish bastards cannot touch "that water"
dream on, mr n1,2 and 3 in the world, dream on :P

  19. You said it says:

Off cause he will fit in. His mobility and the way he makes the oppounent fear when he has the ball fits in at Barcelona.

People talk about his attitude dosn't fit in at Barcelona, but i don't fear that. We have had a lot of arrogant players like Henry, Zlatan, Stoichov, Eto'o, Van Bommel and so on. And we played good anyways.

  20. Maxmaxmaz says:

Seriosuly some people here piss me off…. you are calling him gay and that is just wrong for so many reason one: the fact that you are using gay as a derogatory term and two the fact that he is NOT. I personally dont like him but guess what he is the best left winger currently. It wasn't a coincidental that he was best player of the year at some point. when bashing him you are no better than any ignorant English and italian fan that think messi is not the best player on the planet. grow up and act like a true barca fan

  21. messi is by far the worlds best but after him comes definetely cristiano ronaldo. if you ask me, i would buy him immediately. let´s stay realistic. everyone knows that a combiantion between messi and cristiano with players like xavi and andres behind them, would make us even stronger than the chicago bulls in the 90s with michael jordan, pippen, rodman etc. so, for that reason, this will never happen.

  22. EV6 says:

Actually he has become less selfish than in manutd and he passes more than he used to. He would fit perfectly to the lineup as left winger. His powerful long range shots would be cure for triple-decker buses.
But he 's still a douche and I never want to see him in barca with his wank diving.

  23. Paco says:

I think I would have to kill myself if he ever joins Barca, because I love Barca more than anything else, but Crynaldo is my arch-enemy, I NEVER want to see him in a Barca jersey!

I know that he would add even more danger to our side, but no thanks!

  24. luimac says:

I always use to say to my madridistas friends that if CR9 was at Barca.. It would be almost impossible to stop them. Messi on 1 side CR9 in the other = overkill.
Yes he lacks the attitude but u guys are also taking into consideration his attitude when he was like 18-22 years old.. everyone matures with age and although he is far from perfect his attitude has become less soup opereish lol
In FIFA 09 i use to buy him all the time from ManU for my LW LOL not anymore cause he at madrid and on my 1st season NO ONE good wants to join a noob coach LOL

  25. John says:

I dont think it would work.

Ronaldo plays with too much individual speed on the ball and direct play, that he would get far too impatient when Barca are passing the ball around.
Ronaldo needs to play in a team that plays more diect passes/long balls so he can use his physical gifts to large effect.

    • zen monkey says:

"plays with too much individual speed on the ball and direct play" LIKE MESSI. but as i said below one of this type of player is enough in one team

      • HNG says:

try to imagine if Barcas left side had a better player than Henry this season, and a Messi-type. :D

  26. zen monkey says:

i don't think so. and not because of the "attitude" and other bullshit. he's exactly the same kind of player as messi. he needs space, needs the ball, the ultimate shadow striker. two from this type in one team would be too much

    • HNG says:

too much for the opponents to handle?

What would teams like Inter and Chelsea do if they were up against Messi, Ronaldo, Iniesta and Xavi AT THE SAME TIME? They used already 2 – 4 players to mark Messi alone.

I think it will stay in the fantasy, he will not join Barca. As long he stays in Madrid, it keeps a healthy competition between him and Messi and will definitely push both of them forward and make them better.

  27. zen monkey says:

and yeah yeah i know that messi's style is different from his messi is much better in teamplay and etc, and CR likes to run and shooting all the time

    • HNG says:

if he didn't do so, I doubt Madrid would ever have had any chance to follow Barca in La Liga this season.

  28. Younes EH says:

    absolutly noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ladies don't play in our club.

  29. Aaa says:

Stop saying he is gay… lol… he is banging Kim Kardashian. And it is definitely not gay at all! :D

  30. JRR says:

People see far too much into this quote from Ronaldo. Barça players do the same all the time, every player actually. THey all say "never say never" because that's the way it is, even though it might be extremely unlikely.

That said, whilst I don't like Ronaldo as a person, as a player he's obviously good enough to fit into any team in the world. He's the best attacker after Messi in the world, don't think anyone can argue with that.

  31. Anonymous_69 says:

Of course he would be amazing in Barcelona, but who cares?

Actually, he would make Barcelona almost completely unstoppable if he came. He has everything we are missing. He would add a lot of speed in our attack, something we are lacking. He would add a great threat in the air, something we are lacking. And he would add long shots and free kicks, something we are lacking :p. He would add everything we are missing, but we can't have him, or even dream about him.

  32. Mido_cule says:

With my all respect to you guys.I dont beleive that if one of you was at Barca and Cr9 was offered I dont beleive that anyone can reject this.CR9 is probably one of the best 3 players in world,I dont like his behaviour but Can I say No to him?I cant TBH.

    • Marc4barca says:

he would have to more play CF than winger though cause messi controls the build up play. i don't want him get in the way of messi. we don't need him as i said earlier but your question is a good one, if that time comes can we say no. honestly i don't know, ronaldo can do harm as much as he can do good.

  33. This offside topic is just stupid/like messi going to madrid!

  34. [...] Offside: Would Cristiano Ronaldo fit in at Barcelona? | totalBarça [...]

  35. zinaldo says:

I would say that ribery and arshavin would fit better than ronaldo because they are as speedy maybe not arshavn but as direct but their games relies a lot more of team work than ronaldo who can don't get me wrong be a good passer when he wants to but most of the time he is like robben who like ronaldo prefers to do it by himself than together with his team mates.

Ribery and arshavin would complement barca a lot more but could also inject that direct pace but would fair better because they are always looking to get their team mates involved and that to me is why i would always choose them ahead of ronaldo despite him being better as an individual player than them.

    Europe best 11 :

    ………………………………………………………….1 Cech………………………………………………………………………………………….

    2…Bosingwa ……………………………….3 Pique………………..4….Kompany………………………………5..A.cole

    …………………………………………………..6…Senna………………..7…Xavi………………………………………………………

    8…C.ronaldo……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….9..Ribery

    …………………………………………………………………….10..Arshavin……………………………………………………….

    ………………………………………………………………………11,,Villa.

Can you come up with anything better please try, thanks just having fun.

As you noticed no fabregas because right now xavi is still a better playmaker in the normal sense but fabregas is a much better goal threat, senna because he is quicker than busquets and dives less and can also be a threat on shooting from distances.

Ashley cole because he is more secure as a defender than evra but also has more experience than cissokho, kompany because he is like a calmer chiellini who can lose his head very easily, bosingwa because he is much better than any europe right back and he is way better than ramos going forward also.

I chose arshavin and not iniesta because he is equally as skilled but is quicker and more of a threat in front of goals than andres has demonstrated until now, ribery because he is a team player whereas robben is a forward who scores goals but pretty ignores his team mates most of the time and with ronaldo already there i couldn't take the chance of having them trying to outdo each other.

Villa because he is more clinical than either rooney or torres and is a much better link up player than torres.

    Thanks.

    • Marc4barca says:

      Hugo Lloris
Sergio Ramos – Pique – Samuel – Lahm
Xavi – De Rossi – Cesc
      Messi – Rooney – Ronaldo

when choosing europe's best 11, team stability goes out the window. you just choose the best in each position. your team is more of europe's second best 11 excluding ronaldo pique villa and ashley cole who are all masters at their position.

    • Anonymous_69 says:

      Uhm…. Messi?

    • Anonymous_69 says:

      Casillas
      Alves Pique Samuel Evra
      Messi Xavi Essien Ronaldo
      Rooney Torres

  36. SJP says:

ha! i remember when ronaldo played in the EPL and scored 42 goals in a season, many of the people commenting here said he was not good enough to play for barca, 'just english hype', now he plays in la liga, scores 26 goals suddenly he is obviously the second best player in the world! what about xavi, rooney or drogba? the closest i want to see this prick to a barca shirt is the picture of him completely downcast after flopping in another big game with a FAR FAR superior player in messi celebrating in front of him.

to answer the question, no he would not fit in, barca is a team, ronaldo is an individual, barca players play for each other, ronaldo plays for himself. let him and mourinho fight it out in madrid over who has the biggest ego.

  37. zinaldo says:

As you can see i went for best european players which means no messi as he is south american.

I could have gone for cissokho and not ashley cole but if there was to be a game between europe best vs south america best then ashley cole or evra would get the nod.

I really don't see why people always seem to get de rossi who i think is one of the most overrated player i have ever seen,he does score some goals but he isn't a defensive mid per say,at least not like a lass or mahamadou diarra because his strength is his passing and shooting and not his defending even though he can do it a bit like essien but you wouldn't really call essien a defensive mid but more like a box to box midfielder.

  38. Fenderek says:

People were bashing Busquets (rightly so) after his antics in the Inter game-and now you guys want Ronaldo? Like… seriously…?

  39. Scrappy says:

Messi and ronaldo in 1 team is just not fair…………….:p

  40. Closet Barça Fan says:

    kaká – villa – messi
