New Zaragoza coach wants Keirrison

Portuguese sports newspaper ‘A Bola’ yesterday reported that Barcelona’s loan-out striker, Brazilian Keirrison de Souza (21) is one of the first transfer targets of new Real Zaragoza coach, Jose Aurelio Gay, to strengthen the Spanish Primera Liga side during the winter market.

Unable to break through the current forward line-up of SL Benfica – headed by Portuguese Liga top scorer Oscar Cardozo, and Javier Saviola (both of whom registering half of the club’s 38 goals tally so far), Keirrison has to further compete with veteran striker Nuno Gomez (3 goals), new summer signing Brazilian Weldon (1 goal), and even oft-injured but club favourite Mantorras.

The Blaugrana player’s fate is sealed when Benfica recently closed a deal to secure the services another Brazilian starlet, Alan Kardec, a 20-year-old striker from Vasco da Gama, while another Brazilian forward Éder Luís, could be following after Clube Atlético Mineiro confirmed they had agreed to a 2 million euros deal to sell the 24-year-old, who has travelled to Lisbon to undergo a medical.

Keirrison was supposed to be gathering European footballing experience when the loan deal was negotiated this summer with the Portuguese Liga club – taking into consideration the fact that Brazilians speaks Portuguese – but as things stand a move to another club is the better option for the young striker.

With choices aplenty, including offers from several Brazilian clubs, Keirrison is in no hurry to make a decision, but has stated that he still intends to remain in Europe. One criterion of that is of course more playing times, and a loan to a struggling Spanish Primera Liga side could be his best option.

Any move to the La Romareda side would still depend on Zaragoza successfully off-loading their own loaned-out striker Brazilian Ewerthon (28) – currently playing for RCD Espanyol. It is speculated that the new Zaragoza’s coach wants a loan deal at least until the end of the season.

Keirrison was signed by Barcelona on 23 July 2009 on a five-year contract deal from Brazilian club Palmeiras for a 14 million euros transfer fee plus 2 million in variables.
