Messi to receive the Golden Boot in September

FC Barcelona striker Lionel Messi (23) will receive another prestigious individual award during the last week of September. European Sports Magazine (ESM) along with Adidas will present the Golden Boot award to the striker for being best goalscorer among European clubs during the last season.

The magazine’s management, along with the sports clothing and accessories manufacturer are currently negotiating with FC Barcelona on the date when the Argentinian striker will receive the Golden Boot. All parties entered into negotiations are seeking a day when Leo can be presented in front of his own audience at the Camp Nou, as reported by El Mundo Deportivo.

Messi scored 34 goals last season and with a ratio of 2:1 (the coefficient for the Spanish league) he finished first with 68 points. He placed just in front of Didier Drogba (Chelsea) and Antonio Di Natale (Udinese), who both received second place with 58 points (29 goals). Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuaín had to settle for fourth place when a goal tally of 27 goals and 54 points.

Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez, who plays for Ajax, finished fifth, despite the fact that he scored 35 times.  His position was a result of only attaining 52.5 points. Dutch Eredivisie, unlike Seria A, Premier League and La Liga has a lower ratio of 1.5.  He is followed by both  Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) with 26 goals each and 52 points.

FC Barcelona’s newcomer David Villa ended up fourteenth, with a recorded 21 goals and 42 points.
