Liga 1, Week 31: Barcelona Atlètic 1-1 Espanyol B

Barca Atlètic drew 1-1 at the weekend against Espanyol B. They dominated the first half but failed to press home their advantage in a much more contested second half.

Barca Atlètic retained their second place in the table but will be disappointed not to have closed the gap with leaders Sant Andreu.

The team managed by Luis Enrique dominated the opening 45 minutes. Although the game was fairly balanced in the early stages, Barca soon began to create danger and dominate possession. Elvis and Ilie both had good chances to score but failed to convert.

Barca Atlètic continued to press and it was no surprise when Ilie put the reserves ahead in the 29th minute from a corner kick.

However, ten minutes into the second half, Oscar Sielva seized on the first chance of the match for Espanyol B to equalize. Although Barca Atlètic controlled much of the remaining 35 minutes, they failed to create further danger and the match ended in a disappointing home draw.

A lost opportunity

The result leaves Barca Atlètic tied on points with Ontinyent in second place. With Ontinyent and Sant Andreu drawing against Valencia Mestalla and Logroñés respectively, the reserves have missed a good opportunity to strengthen their position at the top of the table.

    guys,
the espanyol b team is not made up of youth players right?
    it's the reserve team?
so our team plays against people older than them? am i right?

    • Mido_cule says:

I dont know whether the Espagnol team is made up of youth players or noy but we are playing in the Segunda B not in a reserve league so most teams are normal teams which compete for a promotion with a few B teams who mainly consist of youth players with several older players to bring experience to the young team.this enables our kid to get a huge exeperience playing with 24-25 years old players.however,I love more the English-style of Reserve leagues as it enables most of talented kids to be loaned to First division and second division,it involves only young players and it makes enables palyers who dont get enought min to play with reserve team.English style would have meant that Jeffren and Bojan and even Chiggy to play some matches with the reserve team to be fit when neede for the first team.thats why I prefer the english type of reserve leagues.

yes it is, espanyol b is like the same thing as barca athletic.

      • AJ McLoving says:

How is Espanyol B a youth squad when it "is like the same thing as barca athletic."?

Barça Atlétic is NOT a youth team. It is our reserve team. Its considered the final test for up and coming players from our youth teams. But also has experienced players i.e a normal team. Since we consider our most promising youngsters to be as good as 3rd division adults, we draft the boys in early.

    thanks mido and marc!
so that means that our youth team is not the best.
but probably has more individual talents.

  10. sachin says:

Hmm, Espanyol B are 16 in the table compared to Barca Altetic's 2nd position, so how exactly did you come to the conclusion??

    • barca96 says:

haha im not comparing to sachin alone.
im comparing to the other youth teams in the league.
we are not the best but we are among the best though..
