Liga 1, Week 29: Barcelona Atlètic 1-2 Sporting Mahonés

Barça Atletic conceded two early goals against Sporting, both scored by their forward Guillem, and despite constantly knocking at the opponent’s net, Luis Enrique’s lads were unable to conjure even a single point.

After draws in the last two match-days against UD Logroños and Alcoyano, expectantly Barca Atletic entered the game with a marked nervousness and pressure. Despite displaying a fighter’s attitude until the end, Atletic could not create enough opportunities to score.

Home adversity

Two goals from Guillem very early in the game, one in the 8th minute and another in the 17th minute, had a negative effect on the Atletic boys. Despite two major opportunities for Soriano in the 35th minute and Gai in the 38th minute, lady luck did not favour them as the first half ended without goals for Barcelona.

Improvement Insufficient

During the second half, the players have pushed higher up ahead of Sporting, who wanted to preserve their scoreline by closing down on all the gaps. Despite the obstacles, Nolito scored in the 71st minute of action, after an individual move by Soriano and a fantastic finish by the Andalusian winger.

Without creating opportunities

In the final minutes the reserves, who were in search of a goal, could not generate enough chances. Central defender Marc Bartra played almost as a center forward in the final minutes, although it could not garner any points in the end.

Was this game played today? Does this mean that if Ontinyent and Alcoyano win, Barca Atletic will go down to fifth?

Do you know why Jonathan only played the first half??

And no worries, Athletic will prevail towards the playoffs in 2nd place.
