Liga 1, Week 24: Denia 1-0 Barcelona Atlètic
Barça Atlètic conceded an early goal away to Denia and despite controlling most of the game could not find a way through the packed local defence.
Barça Atlètic will go into next weekend’s match against the league leaders with a 12-point deficit. The defeat against Denia combined with Sant Andreu’s victory against Badalona (2-1) means that the Barça reserves are now third with 47 points, a point behind Benidorm in second place.
Early goal
Denia took the lead after just six minutes through Borja but Barça Atlètic could have grabbed an early equalizer when Soriano was judged to have handled the ball into the net.
Barça react
The opening quarter of an hour belonged to Denia but Barça Atlètic gradually took control and only some fine saves from local keeper Vidal stopped Nolito, Sergi Roberto and Elvis from equalizing.
Tricky second half
Manager Luis Enrique brought on Thiago and Jonathan in the second half but the home team defended well and denied the visitors space to develop their football.
Barça Atlètic’s best chance of the match fell to Marc Bartra but it just wasn’t Barça Atlètic’s day.
The Denia players took every opportunity to waste time and the referee played no fewer than seven minutes of extra time.

Cant win em all. Wish Gai would get some more time. At least muniesa sergi roberto thiago and jds got time
It seems Lucho willingly didn't select Gai and Rueda for this match as Denia is an extremely physical side and both were not in the best of their physical conditions, so…
Anyways Im not surprised they lost the game, Denia have the best home record in the league so far loosing only 1 home game this season, I would have loved it if they had atleast drawn the game though
I worry for Gai. He seems to have fallen off a bit like Bojan. I know not everybody is Messi but I do worry that he isnt progressing as he should. I guess if Arsene and co from around europe are still interested in Gai and Bojan I shouldnt be worried though.
Gai was amazing the previous week against Gava, the problem with him is he needs to grow sme muscles and toughen up, thats the only way he could could cope with the physical requirements of top level football. His talent is undeniable (although he needs to work on his finishing a bit which will obviously come with time), the way he unbalances defenses is simply amazing, he could create a lot with his movements!
