Laporta: “Messi is the best footballer in history”
FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta believes Lionel Messi has firmly establishing himself as the best ever. “Messi has once again shown that he is a wonderful player and that he is, without doubt, the leader of Barcelona.”
Messi, who is also the reigning FIFA World Player of the Year, has scored 25 goals in La Liga this season and is well on course to take the Pichichi trophy for the league’s top goalscorer, as well as the Europe-wide equivalent, the Golden Shoe, in which he currently trails Wayne Rooney by a solitary strike.
“He is the best player in the world and the best in the history of football. Along with (Johan) Cruyff and (Diego) Maradona he is the best player we have seen at Barça,” Laporta said.
Is is just me or is Messi's ear pierced?

I didnt see Maradona or Pele but I don think they were like that at 22.The secret behind Messi is his development every minute he learns a new thing and thats why I think he hasnt reached his peak yet.
Lionel Messi.. what a player! What he dose should not be possible, he is the best player I have ever seen an probleby will ever see, Im just so thankfull that I get to be alive see him play, It's a real gift. Hope he never stop improving, he will but let's hope he is over 40 when that time comes xD

i dont get it why do people overrate zidane so much. ya he had teh best ball control, teh best first touch and ya he is one of teh greatest but saying he was better than teh likes of maradona, ronaldo(brazllian), cryuff, garrincha is a joke.
ronaldinho is miles ahead of zidane in terms of sheer talent n ability. and france won teh WC not coz of zidane but coz of ronaldo's failure as teh whole team was built around him.
and noobs come on teh site and say an average france team was lead by zidane. ya rite a team consisting of makelele(teh best holding mid ever), viera, lizarazu, petit, lebeouf, trezeguet, lilian thuram, henry, dugarry, robert pires, desailly, laurent blanc, D. deschamps, youri djorkeff if anything france had teh best squad in that world cup plus they were at home.

But why must Messi win the WC to be labeled as the greatest of all time? A WC is not won by an individual, although it can be inspired by an individual but to win a WC it takes team effort. Messi is the best player in the world and closing in on the greatest in history, but Messi does not have to win the WC to prove that he is the best in the world.
Cruyff never won a world cup but is still considered one of the best. I actually consider him the greatest ever.
u have to keep in mind that Maradona won the WC for argentina almost single handedly with a team less quality than that of today… Also he led napoli (a modest team at the time) to win the Serie A twice and humiliating teams like AC, Juve & Inter.. I guess thats why messi will always have to at least win the WC to be the best in history..
but he's still 22 & he's got a bright future ahead of him..
Actually, despite Maradonas amazing running against England you can also mention that he ''cheated'' his way to win a WC. So that means Messi won't be the greatest player of all time because didn't win a WC whilst Maradona would arguably be mentioned as the greatest because he cheated his way to winning a WC is just wrong.
