Barcelona goaltender Victor Valdes turns 28 today and caps off what surely must have been the most amazing year for him.

Over the past season, Victor has shown why he is the undisputed numero uno at Barca by consistently putting up superb performances, match after match. He enjoyed an injury free year and played the maximum minutes for FC Barcelona and has been strongly putting his case forward for selection to La Furia Roja, the Spanish National Team. That the coach hasn’t yet called upon Victor has appalled many.

However, we hope that testimonies from Royston Drenthe, Didier Drogba (has requested for multiple testimonies), Cristiano Ronaldo, David Villa, Guiseppe Rossi and co. will hold some water with Senor del Bosque and he will pick Valdes to visit South Africa as a player for the Spanish National Team in the FIFA World Cup.

Having won everything he competed for with Barcelona last season, Victor also lapped up the individual award for the best Goalkeeper in Spain by winning his second Zamora trophy for letting in the least number of goals (per match) in the League.

On the personal front too, Valdes found much to be happy about as his partner, Yolanda, gave birth to Victor’s first child – Dylan.
