Guardiola: “To have 71 points is just astounding”

In the aftermath of FC Barcelona’s 2-0 home win against Osasuna last night, Pep Guardiola admitted to have taken the wrong approach that saw his team failing to dominate their rival convincingly in the early part of the match: “I predicted a totally different kind of match. I made the wrong approach and had to change it because we did not get to play well in the first half.”

“In the second, our movements were a lot quicker, determined and with much more intensity,” said Guardiola in the post-match press conference.

That said, the Barcelona coach is satisfied with the team’s overall performance, saying, “We now have 71 points, which is just astounding. The players are playing at such a very high level that when we go down a little bit it is noticeable.”

Asked about Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s performance, Guardiola replied, “Ibra? I can see him getting more goals as he is a great quality player but everything depends on himself.”

“I am also happy with Bojan because he was able to start and finish the move that led to his goal. He seldom disappoints the team every time he plays.”

Finally, as he always does, Pep Guardiola also paid compliments to his rival: “We have won against a very good team who managed to tie us at their home venue, and Madrid too. Camacho is able to motivate his players to find the strength to push hard. It is this kind of courage, demonstrated by his teams, that I admire of him.”
