Guardiola to choose between 2 major summer signings

Guardiola to choose between 2 major summer signings

With great power, comes great responsibility. Guardiola is still undecided over two possible major summer signings.

Guardiola now assumes all responsibilities for player signings

It seems that Guardiola’s new contract comes with a new found responsibility and power, that is he will assume all responsibilities regarding new player signings for the next campaign. According to Marca, the duty that was mainly for Txiki Begiristain is now in Guardiola’s hands, and that is probably one of the reasons why plans to transfer Robinho is discarded in mid-season transfer month.

The Barca coach has reportedly focus on two big name signings to pursue, Cesc Fabregas and Franck Ribery. However, he will not sign both of them, with salary cap and transfer budget constraints to keep in mind.

Franck Ribery

The french man ace winger will be plotted to fill in the left winger role that is looking a bit unsteady this season albeit Thierry Henry’s and Pedro’s alternate effort to contribute. Bayern has reportedly given Laporta right of first refusal and it will certainly bring a lot of complications come summer. If there is any truth to this rumor, then Barca will most probably wait and see Bayern’s evaluation of Ribery before making a concrete move to Fabregas. It is believed that Barca will not make any further move if Ribery’s price exceeds €60 million.

Cesc Fabregas

Here is a player that Guardiola has coveted for many years now and it seems that Cesc’s homecoming is becoming more and more likely. With Cesc Fabregas reportedly having said ‘yes’ and the fact that he comes from La Masia and understood the inner workings in FC Barcelona, Guardiola really had the leverage with this deal. In Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester United last week, Fabregas looked to be the bright talisman but no one around him could ever keep up. In his post-match interview, he even made a remark that even Messi (FC Barcelona) will face an “impossible” task when facing Manchester Utd firing on all cylinders. While remote, that could be seen as a sign that he is tired of the daunting task of trying to win silverware in Arsenal, and preferred to try doing so with Messi (FC Barcelona).

However, quality will not come cheap as Cesc’s price is likely to be very high and nearing the €40-45 million mark.

If one of these two possible transfer has been realized, then it is believed FC Barcelona’s other summer signing will involve smaller name signings, although they could be stars in the making.

Whats the source on this one?

  3. Marc4barca says:

the problem with buying cesc is that we will be playing with less goal scorers as messi and zlatan would be the only natural goal scorers on the pitch cause iniesta will shift to LW which isn't good. we need to buy another goalscoring LW/FWD. is there such thing as too much creativity and no end product? yes and buying cesc would prove that.

  4. WTFU says:

Cesc in 2011; Ribery in 2010. However, please see it to that Cesc does not go to Real… :S

Pedro? He has been far better than Titi all of this season and as of what I and everyone else has seen his finishing ain't too bad either, I for one would mind seeing him take his place and then promoting Gai and having him as backup to Pedro…and if something does happen we have San Andres who can play there too. Though I do think that we don't need Fab just yet…well at least not till after next season or so pending on how things play out till then.

The source that Guardiola now assumes responsibility of player signings come from Marca.com. And I know it's a Madrid based newspaper.

  7. Gorjan says:

Francesc Fabregas(40 mil) and David Silva(30 mil) …………….. and Bravo (for goalkeaper), and Azbilicueta (for right back) ………… with 100 mil. euros, they will sign all these four players ….. Visca Barca

  8. Gorjan says:

and sell Henry, Hleb, and Gabi Milito ….

hey guys, am i dumb or what? didn't we read here a few days ago that we have around 100 millions to spend nexzt summer? frank 70 plus cesc 40 equals 110- i mean , we can take them both, and furthermore- we don't need to buy big for next 3-4 seasons…

  10. SJP says:

are we interested in ribery because madrid want him and they want cesc because we want him? suarez would be the best option but if we insist on spending crazy money again then i guess cesc and use pedro on the LW, he's third top scorer in the club, exactly what we want from the LW, work on his assists and he could be world class

  11. moh_bojan says:

i prefer fabregas and iniesta play left wing, it would be xavi-toure-fabregas "midfield" and messi-ibra-iniesta "forward" it would be very nice, and dont forget that we have hleb and kierrison (loaning) and bojan, pedro and jeffren. so we dont need ribery but we need fabregas. on the other side fabregas is catalunian player, he were with barca, so minimum he should back to barca.

It is all probably silly rumours with no truth. But if we have the chanse we should clearly go for Fabregas. For the left wing we already have loads of upcoming stars like Pedro, Jeffren, Gai, Bojan + Iniesta can play there. In midfield, if Xavi or Iniesta is injured or needs to rest we are vulnerable, with Fabregas we won't be.
Sure, in midfield Dos Santos and Thiago are also coming but I think it will be room for them as well.

  14. alo says:

please let me make clear that if we bought fabregas iniesta should be benched. iniesta cannot play as an lw, as he does not score goals. so the whole fabregas story should take place when xavi is unable to keep up pace with the rest of the team (due to age issues). we actually need a lw that scores goals. pedro is quite good though i don't know if we could base on him. I'd say that the big transfer should be either aguero(my personal favorite as he can play also as CF) or ribery. the range of their transfer is [45-60} millions. that leaves us with another 40 that can be invested in a right back to cover alves (5-15)millions and a creative player in the midfield to act as sub for xavi and iniesta. (although yaya can play this role when his not playing as dm) whereas busquets and keita can keep their defensive duties as dm's. That's my opinion at least.

  15. ibrACMessi says:

First Cesc THEN Ribery. If that happens its cool with me.

  16. in the end only fabregas is gonna come…ribery has been injured out of form and cause to much drama, just keep faith in pedro, promote gai…and bojan to developed and eventually take ibrahimovic place…

  17. asew says:

they need some more defenders because puyol and abidal are almost 32
and they need to replace henry
thats why theyve scored more goals last year than this year cuz henry sucks and pedros and bojan are really good but not for giving them 15 goals per season
