Five B team players in Champions League squad

Five B team players in Champions League squad

As reported by Barcelona’s official website, five B team players have been called up by coach Pep Guardiola for the Champions League game against Rubin Kazin on Tuesday night. They will take the place of five first team players who will be rested. Gaby Milito, meanwhile, continues his work recovering from injury and will also miss the match.

Marc Bartra, Andreu Fontàs, Thiago Alcántara, Jonathan dos Santos and Víctor Vázquez are the five youngsters joining the squad for the final game of the group stages on Tuesday night at Camp Nou, with Alves, Xavi, Villa, Pedro and Keita all given a rest.

In addition to the five rested players, Gaby Milito will also miss the game, though he was able to work out on the training pitch today as he continues his recovery from the calf injury he picked up in the Copa del Rey game against Ceuta.

The Barça squad will stay overnight at a local hotel this evening in preparation for their match with Rubin Kazan, though they are already through to the knockout stages as winners of Group D. The players will assemble at the stadium at 20:15 tonight and travel to the hotel at 20:30 with a gentle training session at Camp Nou scheduled for Tuesday ahead of the game.

Seydou Keita has been left out of the 18 man squad as a precaution. Guardiola has decided not to risk the midfielder, who today trained in the gym with a problem with his left knee.

  11. Nolito says:

    Anyone knows news about Nolito?

    • Ackieda says:

I really want to see Nolito’s name on that shortlist one day. Hope he keeps the faith, but of course no one will blame him if he leaves after remaining stagnant for too long : (

  12. Harshawardhan says:

i would go for a lineup like this:

    pinto

    adriano-bartra-fontas-maxwell

    thiago-masch-JDS

    jeffren-bojan-vazquez

  13. Barca_LT says:

    same here :) +1

  14. joe r says:

    yeah expect victor v

  15. joe r says:

    you like them kids ha

  16. Pino says:

    No Nolito again?

  17. Lazarov says:

nolito is 24 years old , and pep just sign affelay who will play on the wing , whats the point to promote nolito

  18. Santa Claus says:

What do you want for Christmas

  19. subb says:

    v.valdes

  20. Mido says:

    Messi will start,harsha

  21. Nicholas Gaffney says:

    oh :/
Oh ye that reminds me, did he score in pre-season? :/

  22. Nolito says:

    competition, affelay is 24 too

  23. wilkin says:

when i see nolito play, i think he is way more interesting than when i see afellay play.

  24. EazyE says:

Why Vazquez?? He has no future at Barca..a few years ago he was a good talented player but its a bit like Verdu a few years ago..

  25. ev60 says:

Why Messi doesn't get rest? Every game he plays 90 minutes. Villa, Xavi and Iniesta all usually get rest. I'm concerned going too hard on him.

  26. ev60 says:

Nolito is good in segunda, but I remember a game in first team against stronger team and he couldn't do anything. Then again dutch league isn't also stronger than la liga.
Afellay is in national team, Nolito isn't and I doubt that he will ever get there, because competition is tough.

  27. subb says:

    valdes
    adriano-pique-fontas-maxwell
    mascherano
    thiago iniesta
    jeffren-messi-bojan

  28. Paco says:

Ehm… did we already include them in the official CL squad list for groupstage?
Because I think you cannot call up players that are not listed in first instance.
After groupstage, there will be another official squad list for the k.o. stage, which cannot be changed either. So they have been on the list since the beginning?!?

  29. Cule3 says:

I did rather say awesome bonding or <3 :P

  30. downcast97 says:

I want to see Thiago play the whole 90 minutes

  31. Cule3 says:

Nolito is 23 not seen him play much except against Cueta and Mallorca but never understood this signing he came to th club @ already 22 and signed a Barca B contract doesn't even look like he's going to break into the team this year!!

  32. Cule3 says:

yes they were and Nolito wasnt thats y he hasnt been selected

  33. jam says:

cos he WANTS to play every minute. how do you tell the best player in the world "no go sit down and chill"

  34. Write_theFuture says:

    YES!

  35. titit says:

where’s nolito? Man, he is wonderfull, why pep didn’t call him?

  36. Don_Iuis says:

i want to see jds play the whole game

  37. rachaelle says:

aww the picture of Bojan hugging Iniesta! I think he should get more playing time this year. True he hasn't had a lot of goals, but he's hardly on the field, and when was he's made some good plays like the brilliant assist in the clasico. Fontas, Thiago, and JDS are a pleasure to watch! Pep builds the team so well.

  38. Cule says:

yeah, I want to see Thiago and Jona together ;) and 22nd December against Bilbao :D

  39. jimmy_hernandez says:

As far as I know all under 21 players are allowed to play without being registered. And that's why Nolito was not in the training I think. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  40. visca el barce says:

i dont really blame pipita for not wanting to hug ronaldo, if ronaldo hugs you and you are a guy you should be careful about where his hands are going

  41. Arvine says:

No need to play Messi and Iniesta. They deserve rest after tiresome week.

  42. LaneCruiser says:

I was almost convinced that Bojan is gay. Although I would have no problem with that lol

  43. sachin says:

Nolito wasn't called up because the B team have an important game against Betis at the weekend.

  44. sachin says:

Barca B have an important game against Betis on Wednesday, that why Pep said he didn't call a lot of them.

  45. sachin says:

On wednesday not weekend, my bad.
