Exclusive: Ask your questions to ex-Barça player Patrik Andersson

I am happy to announce that totalBarça have arranged an exclusive interview with ex-Barça player Patrik Andersson. The Interview will take place in the coming week and will soon after be published here on the site. We at totalBarça want you, our readers, to be able to take part in this big opportunity, so if you have any question you would like to ask Andersson, please post it in the comment section along with your name and country. We will choose the three best questions to ask Patrik during the interview.

If you have become a fan of Barça in the last few years or just don’t remember who Patrik Andersson is, here is a short profile of him.

Patrik “Bjärred” Andersson was born in Borgeby outside of Malmö, Sweden in 1971. Patrik is the son of former Swedish football player Roy Andersson and the big brother of another Swedish football player, Daniel Andersson, current playing for Malmö FF.

Patrik was a central defender who started out his football career playing for a local club Bjärreds IF, from which he also got his nickname “bjärred”. However, in 1998 Andersson signed for Swedish top club Malmö FF, a club his dad had played for and ex-Barca player Zlatan Ibrahimovic and his younger brother Daniel would later play for. In 1992 he made his national debut and would go on to play for the Swedish national team through 2002, playing 95 games and becoming the captain. He is considered to be one of Sweden’s best ever central defenders. In 1992, he left the Swedish league for the English Premier League and Blackburn but after a hard season he left the club for Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga in 1993. In Mönchengladbach, Andersson had a great time and would come to play 154 games until the club dropped out of the Bundesliga in 1999. Bayern München would be the next stop for Andersson. At Bayern, he had one his biggest periods of success, winning both the Bundesliga and the German cup twice as well as winning the Champions League in 2001.

Before the 2001/2002 season Patrik Andersson signed for FC Barcelona and played for the club until 2004. Three seasons where he had a lot of injury problems, and the club stuggled without a single trophy. Due to the injuries, he only played 19 games for the club, 12 in 2001/02, 3 in 2002/03 and 4 in 2003/04.

In 2004 Andersson decided to move back home to Sweden and Malmö FF. In Malmö, the return of Patrik Andersson caused big headlines as the media and club announced that the kaiser was back. Nothing would now stop the club from winning it’s first league gold in 16 years. But the Kaiser Patrik Andersson kept on having injury problems at Malmö. The club won the league but Patrik was on the sideline with crutches. In 2005 he decided to leave football due to another injury.

During his footballing career Patrik Andersson won a lot trophies and individual awards with the biggest being a bronze in the 1994 World Cup, the Champions League trophy in 2001 and the Swedish Gold Ball* in 1995 and 2001.

*The Swedish Gold Ball is a trophy given out every year since 1946 to the best Swedish footballer of the year. Except for Zlatan Ibrahimovic who has won it four times, only Patrik Andersson, Henrik Larsson and Fredrik Ljungberg have won it more than one time, each winning it twice. Patrik’s dad Roy Andersson have also won it once.

    Question:

Your time at Barça during Gaspart was one of the worst periods in Barça history. Do you think the previous mismanagement affected the player's performance? Also, if I recall correctly you were at Barça the first months after Laporta won the elections. Do you remeber noticing any important changes in the club on that brief time.
Do you think you could have succeeded at Barça if it wasn't for your many injuries?

  4. gg. says:

    My question to Patrick is:

What is the best and worst thing you experienced at the club? AND
How do you think the club changed from the time you were at the club?

  5. Pieyanthikos says:

With your current job as scout for Manchester United, do you use your knowledge about La Masia from your time in Barca to determine young players' potential?

  33. Vassilis says:

    Greetings from Greece!

Congatulations to the people running TOTALBARCA.com, as the interview with Patrik Anderson proves the excellent job that you guys do here. Penya Barcelonista d'Atenes cheers for your efforts.

    To the point:

My question to Patrik Anderson is the following:
In my opinion, during his time in Barcelona, he definately didn't prove his football status and abilities mainly due to injuries. Does he feel that he could have given more to the club, perhaps help in winning a title? Lets not forget that during his time, we had no stable defense and I certainly felt at the time, that adding him to the squad would give us a very strong asset in defense.

  34. ivan croatia says:

how come that great swedish generation of players(thern, k.andersson, dahlin, brolin, schwarz, rehn, limpar, eriksson, bjorklund, nilsson, ljung, ravelli, larsson, yourself…) apparently "dissapeared" after two highly succesfull tournaments in euro 92 and world cup 94? what happened?

  36. Shubham says:

    My question:

You know how Barca works – the inside stuff etc – and you probably know Pep and Zlatan (or both) personally. So whats your take on the Ibra transfer drama earlier this year?

  37. Tawhid Bangladesh says:

Where would you rank the current Barcelona squad in the club's history, and where do you think the most significant improvements can be made to this squad?

  38. Sajjad from DK says:

    Hey Patrick Andersson

    My questions are:
    1. Which player do you think was the best player during your time in FC Barcelona?
Choose one of each; 1 defender and 1 midfielder and 1 attacker? And explain your choises?

    2. What was the reason(s) as to why FC Barcelona didn't win any titles during 2001/2004 because the team was full of good players like yourself?

    Sajjad, Denmark

  39. Hatit says:

Hi Patrick I want to ask you who was the best player whit whoum you played in Barca.if they are two or three tell them.but tell us who was the best? Hayk Tadevosyan from Armenia

  40. Leo says:

The best question of all is from Ivan( Croatia)… I would like to add that you must ask him what he thinks about Messi? Is he greatest of all time?
