Ex-Barca: Deco announces international retirement

Portugal playmaker Deco has announced he will retire from International football after this summer’s World Cup in South Africa.

The former Barça and Porto star (32), who moved to Chelsea in the summer of 2008, said, “I will end my cycle after the World Cup, for my age and because it is tiring, I will say goodbye after the World Cup”. He currently has 71 caps for his adopted country, with 5 goals to his name.

Although he left Barça under somewhat cloudy circumstances, Deco was a crucial part of Frank Riijkaard’s era, making 188 appearances and scoring 28 times for the club, winning two league titles, two Spanish Cups and of course the Champions League in the process

Let's hope that Portugal, for once, can make a good cup effort. They have so much good material but never manages to go further than the quarters. There main trouble is finding a good goalkeeper, left back and striker.

Would love to see Deco go out with a bang!

    Visca Deco!

    some of his best moments!
he had amazing skills plus he shot from distance accurately.. something our current midfielders are not very adept at.. plus his free kicks were deadly..
