European clubs interested in Jeffren, Gai, JDS and Thiago services
According to Catalan sports paper Sport, FC Barcelona technical secretary Txiki Begiristain is currently working on the future of four players whose career path with the first team is still undecided. The said players are Jeffren Suarez (22) who has yet to renew his first team contract – which expires at the end of the season, while Jonathan dos Santos (19), Thiago Alcantara (18) and Gai Assulin (18) are still on Barcelona reserves contract – also expiring in June, and have yet to sign any new contract with the club.
As reported by the paper, as per FIFA regulation, these players are free to negotiate with any clubs six months before their contracts end – that is since from 1 January 2010.
While it is a known fact that all of the players had stated their intentions to stay with Barcelona, it all depends on their playing chances with the Barcelona first team.
Ever since this summer, Jeffren had been linked with a loan move to several clubs but has decided to stay when Pep Guardiola conveyed his confidence in the Venezuelan-born winger at the start of the season. With him still struggling to command regular playing time, Jeffren has chosen to withhold renewing his contract, hoping for his first team’s fortune to change before he makes his decision. The player is reported to garner the interests of several clubs including Sevilla, Everton, Celtic and Blackburn Rovers.
It was also reported that Tottenham Hotspur is seeking to secure the services of Jonathan dos Santos should he choose to leave Barcelona. Considering that he is already getting first team chances – debuting in official matches; Copa del Rey match against Cultural Leonesa on 28 October 2009, against Inter Milan in the Champions League on 24 November 2009, and in La Liga vs Villarreal CF on 2 January 2010 – the possibility of the Mexican-born midfelder moving seems less unlikely.
And like Jonathan, Thiago also has the trust of Pep Guardiola. The Brazilian-born midfielder debuted with the first team in the La liga match against Mallorca on 17 May 2009, and was called up again for the Copa del Rey first-leg match against Sevilla on 6 January 2010. Should he decides to leave, Chelsea is reported to be interested in him, though he is thought to renew following in his brother footsteps, who signed on not too long ago.
Meanwhile Barca Atletic’s winger Gai Assulin – who played his first official match for the first team in the Copa del Rey match against Cultural Leonesa on 28 October 2009 – also prefers to try his luck with the Catalan club but is considering Arsenal’s offer if Barcelona fails to give him that opportunity. His agent is expected to arrive in Spain in the next two weeks.

1-Jeffren:he has speed, talent but he should use his head better if he wants to be a class player but he hasnt future here Pedro-Bojan are ahead of him
2-JDS and Thiago:awesome talents both form 2 different types of midfielders thats why there pairing is a succes at the Athletic,I would renew their contracts if it was up to me but if we Signed Cesc Fabregas it will be very hard for them to break into a team having Xavi-Iniesta-Keita-Cesc,but sure we would give them a new contract, maybe loan them later to see ehere they will reach
3-Gai:good talent, maybe the'new Messi' tag hurted him but for sure we should renew him,if we dont sign a left winger he should stay,if we sign on,its a loan what he needs
Out of the four renewing Thiago is absolutely vital. We don't need Cesc- we need Thiago to stay and in two years time he will be as good…
As for the rest of them… would be a shame, but i wouldn't cry if they left. I believe in them, they can be usefull IMO, but… non of them is another Messi or Iniesta IMO.
ok we cant say where these players end playing like look at Pedro No one thought he would reach that level its all about development,we should renew contracts of JDS-Gai-Thiago although I think JDS-Gai may find it hard to break into our team but we should renew them keep them or loan them until being 22 at that age we can know where they can reach.anyway I can see thiago being a very good player but dont know whether he can reach level of Cesc's.Renew the contracts, signing of Fabregas not needed
I agree, we should sign them and maybe loan them so they can still improve and maybe one day do what Pedro did- break into a team.
But I still think that Thiago out of this four is the biggest talent. We cannot let him go, we cannot lose him.
Gai may shock several people here. People dont rate him because he didnt come in and be like Messi immediately. Thats ok where was Iniesta at age 18? Getting the chance to train with the first team but not getting games. Sound familiar?
Not really. Iniesta was very impressive at 18, also when he played with the big boys.
Iniesta at age 18 played a total of 9 games, the following year aged 19 he played 13 before being a super-sub for most of 04/05 and 05/06.
Did you actually watch him? Because comparing him at 18 with Gai is really non-sense. Gai hasn't shown 5% of what Iniesta did at that age.
Yeah the player described as the "crown jewel" of la masia last year is non-sense. LOL. The player that is described as the "israeli messi" is nonsense. I said in pre-season against Man City that Thiago had shown me that he was good enough to play for us and was better than JdS and I was roundly bashed. Now everybody here says that Thiago will be better than Cesc. LOL.
I also said that Gai against Man City was very good. Found a great deal of space and was very tricky on that LW and the only reason he didnt score was that he looked to pass in a great position which shows that he was trying to be a team player. Pep in a recent press conference said that Gai has earned the right to train with the first team and he had good reports about him.
In a few years people will be talking about Gai Bojan Messi as the best attacking trio in the world. Watch and see.
Its not unusual for fans to under-rate their players though. Same thing happened with Cesc. I'm sure many said that he wasnt any good just as they bash Gio dos Santos. Let Gio have a good world cup and all of a sudden everybody will be saying "why did we let him go" LOL
Which fans underrated Cesc at age 16? Please be more specific. Most fans had only seen him at the youth WC by then, and he was awarded best player of the tournament before heading off to Arsenal.
Good for you.
Doesn't change the fact that Iniesta at 18 was far superior to Gai. The comparison is really off. Maybe Gai will be incredible in a few years time, but it is far too early for him.
Inniesta at 18?? what do you know of iniesta at 18? he didnt break into the first team for a few years since then. yes he was good but you cant say he was better than gai or you cant say gai was better than him.
Even if he didn't play regularly as a starter for the first team at 18, you can still say that he was a far better player for us than Gai! Just watch some of his games back then, and you'll agree.
JDS and thiago should be renewed, dont know why but have a feeling that gai's head could be turned by money so think he may well leave, jeffren has the talent but not the football brain to succeed at the moment, sshould send him on loan and see how he does. guess it depends on whether we buy cesc/suarez/ribery etc, if two of them, or other top players, come i see two or three of these boys leaving
WHY DO YOU THINK GAI´S HEAD COULD BE TURNED BY MONEY? COUL YOU EXPLAIN THIS, BECAUSE IT SOUNDS KIND OF…I THINK YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!
What? Are you a f*****g retard? Should the opportunity arise, we should sell Gai for 10 million, he has been nothing but disappointment, and hasn't shown any signs of promise. Frankly he's no Messi, Fabregas, Bojan etc.
LMFAO! YOU HAVE BEEN WATCHING TO MUCH TELEVISION… IT'S TIME YOU GO OUT MORE AND SEE THE WORLD FOR YOURSELF!
I'm sorry, but the agent of Gai is a money hungry son of a b****! FACT!
I totally agree with SJP!! I think Thiago & JDS should be priorities…Jeffren shows promise but I ultimately see him failing to find regular first team action…If he stayed, a loan player.
Gai, for me, remains a bit overhyped…Has a tool of an agent and apparently is expecting/demanding first team play to resign…He's overrating himself as he wouldn't see more than pre season time with the first team…I think he'll be signed by a Premiership club (i.e. Arsenal, our farm club)
Greg, grow a pair already..
I believe gai will leave because he doesn't play that much under luis enrique. a shame though..because pep believes in him
Jeffren is a bit stupid to postphone. he's going the same way as gio dos santos. But i think he has an interesting profile, a lot of speed, always seeking depth. So I hope he stays.
I understand JDS and thiago to be a bit disappointed if barça would get fabregas.. but i think they'll renew anyway. hope they get the chances in the future.
besides Gai, JDS and thiago can play in second division if barça athletic gets the promotion.
He is actually a lot older than Gio dos Santos. If you're not getting games at age 22 and you have Messi Ibra Henry Pedro Bojan ahead of you, you should consider weather its time to move on. Unless Barca plan to put Pedro/Jeffren/Bojan to start on the LW next year he is gonna have 5 players ahead of him for the forseable future. Not to mention he must be feeling the heat from Gai, Deulofeu, Etock, Rochina, Icardi etc. They are on the verge of being old enough to earn some time as the 6th choice.
i'm not talking about age but referring the fact he went to the EPL and will never play for a top club again..
deulofeu is 15 y old. come on, you are speaking of children! etock is a central striker, so is icard. they aren't even in the athletic team, they may even never get there..
Hey 15 means that in 2 years he will be pushing for a debut and a few chances here and there which is exactly what Jeffren is getting right now. Etock and Icardi may be CF's but so was Bojan before he came into the first team but he can play LW and looks likely to play on the LW for the forseable future. They may not have played for Barca Athletic but they soon will.
2 years? first of all i don't think so. and second , the discussion you began was that he should move on at the end of the current season..
Yeah I do think he should if we buy another front player. What has Jeffren played this season? Limited mins in a handful of games. He is 22. How much longer is he going to wait around with Messi Pedro Bojan ahead of him and Gai Rochina Etock Icardi and Deulofeu fast behind him? He either needs to decide if he is gonna take "garbage time" for the next 2-4 years until he is replaced by Gai Deulofeu Rochina etc or if he is gonna try to forge his own path at a smaller club. Personally I do think he should leave since I cant see him displacing any of the players ahead of him now. Unless Pedro is going to start on our LW next season I cant see him doing anything but warming our bench mostly next year by which time he will be 23.
i think Gai will leave.
he got an ass of an agent=pini zahavi.
why is it if we sign Cesc, thiago and JDS won't get chances?
even cesc himself won't get into the team.LOL
there is no space for him.
but why does so many people say, if cesc comes, no space for thiago and jds.
but if flamini, traore etc comes, no one brings up Cesc's name.weird.
but pep also has been dissappointing.
he doesn't want to let the kids play.
he should give them some minutes one we are leading by 2 goals or so.
that way they can improve faster.and our key players(xavi, iniesta, puyol, alves, messi) can rest.
thiago in for iniesta
jds in for xavi
muniesa/fontas in for puyol
Wow! Why the hell hasn't these contracts been renewed earlier??? What a shame, they can now freely negotiate with any club they want! And also pressure us for a better deal of course.
We focus on ridiculous ideas like Cesc and we may lose Thiago… IMO that's a bit daft it it happens. Fabregas is good now, but Thiago in a year or two will be as good- and will cost NOTHING. We can spend this 50 million somewhere else. Left winger preferably.
Which winger should we buy? Any ideas? David Silva isnt any better than Iniesta in that position so why should we spend that money on him? Added to which he and his agent just happen to make trips to Madrid with his agent which is never a good sign. Ribery wants to go to Madrid also. Not too many other options worth 50 million out there for our LW.
There's always Rooney.
he won't come.. and sure is no wingman
He could come. It would certainly be incredible with Rooney in our team.
How did the other english players do in la liga?
Mc Manaman, Beckham, Owen, Woodgate?
Lol rooney is invisible at LW.
Far better than Henry ever was for us.
If Rooney comes, expect 50 goals from him in our system.
Uhm how is he going to score 50 goals? Even at their peak Messi Etoo Henry only managed 38 34 and 25 goals. Only the original Ronaldo managed to come close to 50 and even he didnt make that (ended with 47) and Rooney doesnt have 1/100th of the talent the real Ronaldo had
Rooney has said himself that he DOES NOT like playing on the wing.
Riiiiiiiggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhttttttttttttttttttt
How many goals did he score as a LW with Man Utd last year?
What does that have to do with anything. We play a totally different system than Man U, and he would definitely bang them in for us. If Henry can score 25 goals on LW for us, Rooney can score 50! He is incredible, and just imagine him with Ibra and Messi.
LOL. Rooney does not have the technique to play for Barca. He is all headless running around, no class.
Rooney was MU's best player last year.
The main reason we won the CL last year is because Busquets marked him perfectly and didn't let him develop attacks. Do not underestimate him, he is a great passer, a great scorer and surely has technical abilities!
Not saying we should buy him, but he can be a really good LW in our system where the LW is free roaming and gets many scoring chances.
Besides he already says that he isnt going anywhere
Yeah, that settles it. Surely. Players have to say that sort of thing. That's pretty obvious.
When he signs his new 200000 pound a week deal in the next few week's I'll hear what you will have to say
hahahah.. rooney wont come.. his agent was just getting manu on their toes.. besides i dont think he would be better than henry on LW.
rooney sucks on LW
don't get me wrong, rooney is a class player. playing in the centre… LW he's no use
and he won't come because he says he stays with man u. fergie isn't going to let him go, nor does he want to!
Point is there isnt a credible LW that is worth 50 million anywhere right now. I havent been impressed with Luis Suarez for Uruguay and he has just signed a new deal in any case. The only options for the LW that are worth 50 million and would probably be interested in joining us would be David Villa and Fernando Torres neither of which are LW. Besides those two we shouldnt spend 50 million on anybody in the market right now except Cesc.
ribery? madrid bound?
and what abt silva? i know hes wrong footed for our system but he is quality!
Silva was also spotted in Madrid recently with his agent making a "surprise visit". Not exactly a good sign for somebody that Barca wants to sign
I also don't see a lot of good options for the left wing. villa and torres aren't LW players
silva, i have doubts. he's got quality but i think he's at his best as a central attack midfielder.
wrong footed no. but he doesn't score goals and is no pure winger neither
David Villa plays on the left like a kind of second striker for Spain. The same position Henry plays for us so Villa would be great although he is starting to age a bit.
And there is no way Rooney would score 50 goals on our LW unless he suddenly becomes a better player than Messi.
Messi will probably score 50 goals for us this season.
hmm ok
And even if Messi doesn't get 50 this season, he is a great provider of goals as well, so it is too simple to judge who is better simply on goals and nothing else.
Do you realize just how much 50 goals in a season is? During Barcelona's best season in their 110 year history, Messi, Barcelona's star player, scored 38 goals.
And Messi is constantly getting better. Keep in mind, he is only 22!
wow. there is no end to your stupidity. i've thought of a way to present my comment as respectfully as i could, but sometimes it's best to be blunt.
steve is a retard
thiago alcantára :
txiki should be able to reach an agreemant with thiago we recently agreed for a new contract with his little brother.
it schould be a formality to reach an agreement with him because he has a bright future in this club as well in the furia roja!
he can play just like iniesta as an attacking midfielder and as leftwing/right wing. i'm pretty sure that he will remain in barça!!
i think jonathan and gai are in terms of a contract extension a difficult case because they are serviced by the same agent who hasn't got the best relationship with the club.
jonathan :
jonathan should consider his brother as a warning example and should not make the same mistake. gio did fail in epl and didn't develope like he wanted to.
even with zahavi as negotiation partner there is high possibility to keep him. jonathan hopefully knows he has a future in barcelona and that pep rates him high.
gai :
with gai its going to be complicated.in my opinion he isn't ready to play for the first he needs another two years to play for the barca b in order to posses the physical conditions.
i don't think he could help the first team at the moment.
in recent years he used to have offers from epl clubs like chelsea, liverpool and so on but nowadays i think he would accept the offers if they are extraordinary( two mios for a three year contract)
zahavi had shown on several occasions that he rate money over the development of his players.
its going to be tough to reach an agreement.
The question is, if he is physically ready enough to play for Arsenal in the BPL, why isnt he physically ready to play for us in La Liga which is much more protective of its players?
he would play in their reserve teams to gain the physical conditions. the only difference is, he would earn even more than in barça.
hmm.. even though Silva has been spotted in Madrid… i doubt they will sign both Ribery and Silva. yeah, yeah.. i know they have all the money.. but that only sets up huge ego problems in their camp… they will have to start benching their own galacticos (ronaldo, ribery, kaka, silva, alonso, benzema, higuain)… can't start all at the same time. And a lot of those players will not even be happy with a rotation policy. Just look at Benzema now! So if Madrid sign Silva, Barca can go for Ribery..
And even though its unlikely … and madrid somehow manage to sign both ribery and silva.. that leaves fabregas open to us and they certainly wont compete for cesc then. basically… madrid can't buy ALL the star players to prevent Barca from signing their one big signing. So I am sure Barca will be able to get one of the big guns.
And even if we sign NO ONE next season.. which most definitely wont happen… then I am still happy… we have Thiago, JDS and other youth to be promoted. Overall.. you cant stop Barca no matter what you do… we will still play our sexy football as always… Visca Barca!
Dont think Gai will leave. He has been training with the first team. He hasnt left yet so chances are he will be willing to wait a little longer.

Thiago and JDS have proved worthy. Keita will have to stop playing amazingly one time, and when that comes Thiago and JDS can step up. I think JDS plays more like Xavi, he doesn't take on players, but he seems to be pretty smart, and his passing is good. While Thiago seems to be like Iniesta number two. He can dribble, he can pass (we saw a few great long balls too), and he takes on his man. Iniesta is injury prone, and is starting to move further wide, so I think we definitely need to resign Thiago. JDS would also be a great resigning because Xavi is 30 now, and he could have another 6 great years in him, but we never know. Xavi doesn't have a perfect cover right now, and with some experience JDS can be that cover.
Now the Jeffren/Gai situation is a lot more different. Henry could well be gone after this season, if not the season after that. So we will have Pedro and Iniesta as LW candidates for now. Pedro has proven his worth, and I think he well deserves the spot, while Iniesta is better at LCM, so the LW will need cover. If we don't sign a star LW, then we will need EITHER Jeffren or Gai, but not both. Jeffren has shown some promise while he has been on this season, and in the past two preseasons. I've seen Gai play during preseason, and while he is good, he didn't seem to be in the game as much. I will not decide on the two because they have very different cases. Gai isn't bad by considering moving, and I say that because he is very ambitious. He was talking about getting into the first team last year, and in the past two years he has been let down. Jeffren on the otherhand would probably be fine being the cover for LW and RW (maybe even RB as we saw against Cutural Leonesa, where he actually played quite well), assuming he got comparable time to what Pedro is gettting now.
I think your right. We should sell Gai, while we have the chance. We already have Pedro, Bojan who are better options playing in the LW position.
If we get a good amount of transfer money, let's say in the region of 10 million, we should consider selling Gai.
Pep will probably keep 2 or 3 and the rest will probably continue their career somewhere else as I doubt that playing for Barca Atletic once you tasted playing alongside Messi and co. feels tempting for them.
I would keep Jonathan, Jeffren, Thiago definitely though.
Jeffren and Gai are like the next Diego Capel for me. JDS and Thiago are way more talented imo and they can become the next big thing, I hope we keep them two. I would be gutted if we lose them, not so much about Jeffren and Gai.
