Cruyff’s advice to fans: Support Chygrynskiy, if you want Guardiola to stay
In his weekly column for Catalan newspaper El Periodico, Dutchman and former Barcelona manager, Johan Cruyff, gave the Camp Nou faithful a piece of advice: Support Chygrynskiy if you want Guardiola to stay.
Reacting to recent events surrounding the less than stellar performances of Ukraine international and Barcelona defender Dmytro Chygrynskiy, Cruyff warned fans to refrain from overly criticizing the player, noting that the whistles directed at the defender would have hurt Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola more than the player himself: ” Basically, if people criticize the player, they are in effect criticizing the coach.”
Chygrnyskiy, who last summer was signed for 25 million euro by the Catalan club at the express wish of Guardiola, was resoundingly jeered by the home fans for his poor performance in Barcelona’s first leg quarterfinals match against Sevilla. Cruyff, however, believes that Chygrynskiy, whom he likened to former Barcelona defender Ronald Koeman who went through a similar rough start, should be given more time to adapt.
He also counselled the fans to tone down the critical environment at the Camp Nou, stating that things would not come easy and that it costs so much to achieve both (league and Copa) titles: “(Guardiola’s) players are not machines.”

Well said, Cruyff.
Talk about having great fans when they boo their own team/players…
I know that he hasnt been as good as in Shaktar, but he needs time to adapt, you cant bench him for pretty much every game and then expect him to be as good as Puyol/Pique.
Actually guys… what happened to Cryuff's Corner? Haven't seen it in a while… that was always a great read…
translation in progress.. should be up soon.
Thanks
It's always a brilliant read- kudos for that!
Chyggy must up his game that's all, after all where is Hleb now, he is a flop.
Critisism is good for the player, not sure how it can affect the coach, i know pep reccomemded chygy but if barca fans see him defending so badly are they expected to applaud him.
ok now this whole gaurdiola contract renewal thing is getting out hand, why doesn't pep just renew or give someone a real reason why he is waiting.
fans can be cruel we all know that but that's because their life is based on this club, watching them lose is like watching a close friend getting stabbed in the heart it's hard to bear and you say anything to calm yourself. fans shouldn't be blackmailed into cheering a player, criticism is sometimes good for you. look at juve fans they snapped last week after losing to ac milan burning part of the stadium. that's human nature and it's only so much one can take as a football fan. if chygrynskiy continues like this then expect the white handkerchiefs to come out but i'm hoping he does improve and becomes a fan favorite cause i'm tired of spending too much on defenders.
Its different this time. Godiola has earned the right to decide in his own time.
So fans HAVE TO respect even if thats not how it happened in the past.
For just once fans need to STFU because whats being achieved by the team is beyond comprehension.
i agree. plus i think guardiola has other plans like playing for tenerife to fulfill his promise
seriously tho i think pep might not renew. the guy is exhausted :/
I agree- if there was ever a time to appreciate what has been achieved- it's NOW. This really is beyond comprehension, this really is one of the greatest teams that ever played, not only at Camp Nou, but acctually anywhere in the world- and yet it takes one draw against Villareal for people here to say that Busquets is shit, that Jeffren needs to be sold, that we need to buy 15 new players, that Chyggy is a waste of money and so on and so on… Same happens on the stadium- Chygry ddin't have a pre-season with us, FFS! Nobody wants to remember that- and he also came form a different league, that played different football… It takes time to re-adjust… was henry's first season at Barca a success?
I can only hope that all of us won't be looking at this period in few years time and hoping that it could be as good as it was again… and being able to appreciate it only when it ends… cause it will end eventually, just like everything does… Guys, can you/we actually see how much we have? Really see it and appreciate it?
But than again, some of people when it ends will simply jump on the next bandwagon anyway, won't they?
agreed. Cryuff has a point… if the fans are so unhappy with Chygy(who Pep handpicked from the transfer market).. then the fans are essentially unhappy with Pep's decision. If they want him to leave… am sure he will.. now will the fans be really happy then?
When Pep the man himself is saying to the fans…"have some patience with Chygy.. it will work out".. i think the fans should do just that. whistling at your own players is really disgusting IMO. Look at the EPL clubs.. a small time club like Stoke city who get hammered by the bigger teams have amazing fans who get behind their team when they are getting hammered even though many of their players are not playing well. Pep has won 6 trophies… we are still alive to regain all of them… so lets stand by his decsisions. Yes he knows Chygy isnt at the top of his game… but what matters is what happens in May. If we dont win anything by then.. then fans are welcome to criticise Pep and Chygy and whoever they want… but for now let the men do their jobs!
you guys do get what your saying right? your saying that the fans should like every single thing pep does even if it was bad but i understand we have totally different ways of thinking, i personally believe fans do appreciate the success which is why they are so eager for it to continue. fans are not blind they know when there is a mistake but at the same time don't know the word patience and why should they like we say everyone has right to speak there mind on here, they have a right voice concern after all we paid 25 mil for chiggy, i think if he came for 10mil they wouldn't care that much but understand we wasted the rest of the transfer season going after chiggy and ended up paying 25mil while real snapped a albiol a spanish national team member with a bright future for 15 mil from the ever so resilient valencia how can u expect everyone to be happy not only that they also snatched up our first choice garay just like they did sergio ramos few years back. all i am saying is each and every fan has a point in some ways so everyone is wrong and everyone is right but don't be blinded by the 6 trophies, pep can make mistakes even he admitted that himself but no one has lost faith in this team or pep they are just concerned with the squad depth the low performance of some players.
I'll be patient with cheggy bcos of crujff
