Carlos Delgado Ferreiro to Referee Zaragoza – Barcelona

FC Barcelona will face an old nemesis in Zaragoza this weekend in the form of Basque referee Carlos Delgado Ferreiro.

Barcelona players will undoubtedly have unpleasant memories of Ferreiro, who has overseen a number of controversial matches with the club over the last few seasons. Fans of Leo Messi will surely remember the way he was manhandled by defender Weligton away at Malaga in September of 2009. Ferreiro was severely criticized by both Messi and Xavi after that match for his failure to protect the Barcelona attacker. In fact, Ferreiro’s performance in Malaga was so poor that he was officially suspended from refereeing for a short while. In their official report, the Spanish Technical Committee for Referees noted that Delgado Ferreiro did not make “one mistake, but a series of mistakes.” The report went on to criticize Delgado Ferreiro for turning a blind eye on Weligton’s attacks on Messi and Pique, and for confusing Messi with Chygrynskiy, and Abidal for Toure in his match report.

Delgado Ferreiro was also involved in Barcelona’s derby against Espanyol in February of 2009. In the 1-2 home loss, midfielder Seydou Keita was controversially sent off with a straight red card for a late challenge on Espanyol defender Moises. Ferreiro additionally dished out 14 yellow cards during the match.

Ferreiro [40] has been a first division referee since the 2006-07 season. In the current campaign he has called 14 matches so far, giving out 68 yellow and 2 red cards.

not this sellout again. what i don't understand is, why do these type of referees get put back in a match with a team they have screwed time and time again. wouldn't tell you to avoid using this referee in a barca match to avoid more referee talk in spain. don't they know it's hurting the league. sometimes these higher ups such as fifa, refereeing committee, uefa, spanishFA, italianFA etc are so ignorant and blind to the truth and have such big egos they won't change anything.

refereeing committee won't accept their referees are poor, fifa refuse to implement goal line technology cause they want to keep the human aspect of the game wtf, human aspect?? there is 22 players plus 4 referees what more humans do you want, what a lame excuse. uefa after witnessing ovrebo ignorance in the barca-chelsea match was once again called to action in bayern-fiorentino match. A smart person would of taken away his uefa badge on the spot. spanishFA needs to stop favoring real madrid in almost every situation, they still see real madrid as the pride of spain, no matter what barca do we are always second maybe even third in their eyes, being a catalonian club comes with a burden. football is on a decline but will never die, it's up to fifa to decide whether this sport remains the biggest worldwide sport ever.

Hey guys, forget this man. Forget the referees. Like Pep has said "the referee does not exist".

The more you talk about referees like this one, the more they get orgasms. I bet that this masochist narcissist reads every article about him and have his revenge on the pitch…Ok, I finish here. This subject just got me overreacted. I should respect them and not give them any special attention.

This douchebag is going to do everything in his power to hurt Barca. Watch out for vicious fouls against Barca being ignored, perhaps legitimate penalties denied, and every little contact against Zaragoza will be awarded for them. Watch this space!
