PSV Eindhoven have confirmed the transfer of attacking midfielder and Dutch international Ibrahim Afellay (24) to FC Barcelona in January via their official website.

“PSV and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement on the transfer of Ibrahim Afellay to Spain during the winter transfer window,” says the website. The talks between Ibrahim, his agent Rob Jansen, and FC Barcelona are taking place in a positive atmosphere, but are not finalized yet.

Afellay said that he was pleased that his dream club Barcelona want him to take over.The agreement of personal terms might take some time. Until then, Ibrahim wants to concentrate fully on the next important matches of PSV.

FC Barcelona has acknowledged Afellay’s move in January with the following statement :

“The player will be registered in January once the winter transfer market opens. Until the deal is finally settled, Ibrahim Afellay wishes to concentrate on the upcoming important games for PSV.”

The site has also put up a profile of Afellay stating his skills and achievements:

“Ibrahim Afellay, 24, is a skilful and fast winger who has been thrilling the PSV crowds for quite a few years now and has won everything in Holland thanks to his straight forward attacking approach and his good shooting.

He made his debut seven seasons ago (with PSV) when he was just 17 and since then has won winners medals in the Dutch Cup and Super Cup, as well as four League titles and well as figuring in the Champions League and Europa Cup.”
