Barcelona one goal away from their 400th goal in the European competitions
According to Catalan based newspaper Sport, FC Barcelona is one goal away from scoring the 400th goal in the European competitions, namely UEFA Champions League and the Europa League. On Wednesday, the team has the chance to score its 400th goal against Rubin Kazan.
The Blaugrana have played a total sum of 209 games in the European competitions; this means that their goal scoring average is around 1.9 goals per game. The record of scored goals in one competition was during the season 1999/2000 when Luis Van Gaal was Barcelona’s coach, during which the team scored 45 goals in the Champions League before they were knocked-out in the semi-final against Valencia! The scoring average was around 2.8 goals per game.
The 1992/93 season saw Barcelona scoring the least number of goals under Cruyff’s management when the team was only able to score four goals in four matches played; this was one season after Barcelona won their first European cup at Wembley.
Guardiola, thus, looks forward to continue the series of breaking records especially in the UEFA Champions League, which the Blaugrana aim to win for the 4th time in the club’s history.
