Barcelona consider Javi Martinez as Toure replacement
Spanish sports daily El Mundo Deportivo has speculated today that FC Barcelona may be preparing a bid for Athletic Bilbao midfielder and Spanish international Javi Martinez (21).
The departure of Yaya Toure has left a mountain-sized hole in the midfield that the Catalans are eager to fill and Martinez may fit the profile of a defensive midfielder who could compliment Sergi Busquets. Martinez, who made his way to the Basque Country via Osasuna, had a standout season in Bilbao which culminated in a place on the Spanish World Cup squad. And although he played only a minor role in the finals, his vision and passing ability make him a potential future star of the game.
With Javier Mascherano seemingly headed to Inter, Martínez must certainly be on the short-list of attractive defensive midfielders. One potential stumbling block: Athletic is insisting on 30 million euros for the player, a sum that would eat up much of the 50 million fund that remains in Barcelona for summer transfers.
Given the players that may be available, who would you sign to replace Toure?

So our midfielders should be Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Martinez, Arteta & Keita. 6 players to cover 3 spots, should be great while Iniesta can also play right or left wing.
And sent Hleb in return to Everton, to cover some money.
And we can always give Thiago and Dos Santos a chance if needed.
DM should be priority, but I wouldn't give up on Cesc. Although he is less needed, he might be the difference between winning something or winning everything next season:)
Why do you think Arteta is a subject. I agree that signing Cesc is a waste of money. We should focus on signing a CB, a DMF and a LW and then we can think about signing Cesc if there is any money left. If we buy Cesc I dont see any room for Keita.
Because the club already said there is interest in Cesc. If they wont get him, i wonder if they go for another attacking midfielder? I mean, if the Cesc transfer fails and they would consider to sign another AM, they should go for Arteta.

Pedro Leon cost only 10 million, Albiol cost 15 million last year. I would not pay more than 15-16 for Javi Martinez. He's not even going to start for the club. Why pay 25 million to have a young guy sit on the bench and block other young guys from the cantera from coming up? If we're going to splash that much cash we could have just kept an unhappy Toure, he was still locked in to two more years of his contract.
If we can't get Javi for less than 16 million, I'd rather go for someone cheaper like Alou Diarra. His buyout is only 8 or 9 million euro, he's also very experienced, and will be a good backup/rotation player.

Agreed; let's not break the bank for someone who sits on the bench. If Yaya couldn't get PT at DM, Javi sure isn't going to either, barring a Sergi B injury. Let's replace yaya on the cheap and/or with cantera. And till marquez is gone he is decent cover for injury, similarly, though it stretches the reserves thin, we could also start Puyol and Milito at CB and Pique at DM in a pinch with a Sergi B injury or suspension.

This would be one of the more ridicolous signigns. 25 mio. € for a benchwarmer…we sold Yaya for 24 mio. €! Then we should have kept him. That is really nonsense. For a Busqeuts replacement who will likely very often sit on the bench we should not spend more than 8-10 mio. € whoever it will be.

i like javi and he would bring something different to the midfield, i just wonder whether defensively he is good enough. a more physical guy like capoune would be a perfect compliment to busquets, and he is young enough to learn the barca way. DM seems to be the only area of the cantera where we dont have a potential star coming through apart from oriel, who i havent seen much so not sure about.
Well, we should at least give Oriol a chance. He seemed great the few times I watched him, and with a young player like Busquets already in the team, it wouldn't be really fair to buy another young DM. Completely agree with you about the Cesc point.

Villa-Ibra-Messi make up the front line. With Iniesta, Busquets and Xavi as mids. If Iniesta and Xavi stay fit, Cesc would be a sub, if he plays at all. Keita played so much because Iniesta was injured or placed on the wing (because Henry was poor/injured). If Villa did not come, I could see Cesc getting as many minutes as he wants, with Iniesta playing mainly playing on the left wing.
Iniesta is best if he's allowed to roam and isn't an ideal winger.
I don't see why Cesc wouldn't get playing time. Iniesta often is hurt, and Cesc can give either Xavi or Iniesta a well-deserved rest during the long season.

I like this Villa-Ibra-Messi certainty. You must be forgetting that Ibra is the same player that was benched for Bojan towards the end of the previous season.

Nonsense. Cesc would be crucial in the big games where we would have to play a perfect possession game. He also is a scoring midfielder unlike Xavi and Iniesta.

Don't get me wrong, I like Cesc. A lot. I think he would add a lot to the team, especially seeing how he is a midfielder that can actually score. He was the leading scorer at Arsenal! But, I feel like that if Cesc were to come this season, he would not see the minutes he would like and that his price tag would entitle him. I was in the camp that wanted Cesc instead of Villa so we could push Iniesta up to the left, playing the role he did in the World Cup and just use youth as subs. Cesc would have brought goals with him and made us a more well rounded team, able to score from anywhere. But with the current roster I don't see Cesc really being able to play to his potential.

Marco Senna would be great as a backup player for Busquets, he is experienced, cheap and won't complain about to little time to play.
My favourites for the DMF are all Young cracks: Moussa Sissoko, Capoue, Javi Martinez choose one of them and dont overpay.

Schweinsteiger would be extremely difficult to get, but if we were to get him, it would be great. I like him because he can cover all midfield positions, he can score from long range, and he can even play in very advanced positions if needed. He can provide the cover for both Busquets and Xavi. If Barcelona would be able to get him for less than 30m, then terrific, but if not, then don't bother. Even if we did get him (or any other DM), I still think JDS/Thiago/new player should be promoted in order to have 6 midfielders for 3 midfield positions (two player covering each position). The only problem is, if Pep continues to play with only one DM, then Schweinsteiger will most likely sit on the bench – something I cannot see happening.

the best option would be stephane mbia from om he is even more powerful than yaya anmd is technically very gifted he would cost around 20 m and is only 24 3 years younger and better than toure javi martinez is not proven at all for me busquets is not the type player we need i dont know why pep is inisting on him he has to explain that he has passing abillities but he is slow first next he is out of position in every game for the most time he cant craete something for the game and he cant really stop the opposite teams

Villa actually plays BETTER when he isn't the main focal point in attack. If you want to get the best out of Villa, you have to play him off another Striker. That's why Villa looked a lot worse when Torres stopped starting for Spain. Villa-Ibra-Messi is the best for me.

Busquets is most likely to start for Barca, so this means that we need someone that accepts being on the bench, someone who's cheap and talented. Javi Martinez is not that guy. As great as he is, he's not the right guy for Barca at the moment.
Capoue or M. Sissoko would be great. They're young, cheap, talented, and they won't complain since they take a BIG step from Ligue 1 to Barcelona.

I like this player. He is not a world class player. but he can get the job done, besides he is young and can even get better with Pep guiding and also the players he will be surrounded by. The only barrier is the price tag. We don't need to break the bank for him…..but then again, the DM spot is a position we really need to fill before the season starts.
We need somone like Diarra, Thiago, Hazzard, Ladesma and then diffence CB Bruno alves, LF luis felipe and a diffence rb then will be ok if not we are history this season…
cesc is our priority in the midfield.simple maths tells us that cesc can still get 30 starts without affecting xavi or iniesta's play time in his 1st season.freshness for all of them will make them much better.when iniesta was injured,same people wanted cesc and now they we don't need him.no player is a machine and thiago or JDS can't help to defeat chelski or inter in a champions league match.
keita was primarily bought to be a DM.the rise of busquets changed that and he will drop to cover busquets meanwhile romeo or sergi roberto get ready to replace him.

with messi and ibra regarded as the storngest in attack,it was easy to mark ibra but with villa in,the equation changes bcos many defenders must focus on the left and many more on the right giving more than just enough space to ibra.eto'o scored more when henry/ronaldinho on the left and messi on the right attracted too many defenders.
in other words a balanced attack is what we needed. pedro will get better and stronger through the season.bojan and more especially jeffren will be the surprise package in the attack. continuity is what makes barca special.

The best thing to do I believe is not get Javi. Simply put, he is not a defensive midfielder and is not worth that much money. I think Marquez should be kept and used predominantly as the backup DM. Keita can also play that position as well as Victor Sanchez (who should see more playing time as a utility player). Promote Muniesa (who can also play several positions) to replace Rafa.
