Barca with three new signings in the summer?
The general director of FC Barcelona, Joan Oliver, confirmed on Monday that the club is currently working on three possible transfers. According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Oliver did not mention any names but it is almost certain that Spanish international striker David Villa from CF Valencia and former Barca youth player Cesc Fabregas are 2 of the 3 players.
Joan Oliver also said that after a meeting of the club’s Executive Committee, it has been decided that the names of the transfer targets will be specified before the World Cup in South Africa.
When reflecting on the situation of Thierry Henry at the club and his possible departure to MLS in the US, he added, “I don’t think that it is 100% wrong what has been said in the media these days.”
When asked about the future of Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimovic, he stated, “I have no idea whether he will continue. I assume so.”
Didnt this guy say that 2 out of 3 were gonna b spain internationals…..Hope so…….it can b villa,silva,mata or cesc

No, we need quick players, who can move the ball and their bodies fast. Look how slow Ibra looks in our team.
Regarding corners and free kicks, we can simply put many of our small players in midfield, forcing the opposing team to leave many players behind to mark them instead of going up to the set pieces.
Yepyep when Ibra got the ball, he holding too long and make others keep calling for the ball. He surely lost it most of the time. Look when we face Inter both legs. At the start of the season, I thought Ibra will be perfect for us when we meet those Englishs. Right now, I realize that we need the one who good on pace and quick pass like Eto'o did once. Villa is brilliant, he will score lots lots of goal for us.

The creative midfielder can come from the Cantera, maybe Dos Santos, Roberto or Thiago? We should really wait with buying Fabregas. What if a player like Thiago develops into an awesome talent? No need for Fabregas anymore then… If not, we can still buy him in maybe 2 years time, as he will only join Barça, he said, and his price might drop by then (with only 1 or 2 years left on his contract). But it seems Laporta still intends to buy him before the WC, just to make sure Rossel can't…
The back-up for Alves might come from the Cantera as well. I don't know the full backs that well; maybe Montoya or Dalmau? But I was hoping for Cesar Azpilicueta as a long-term replacement for Dani Alves… He has pace, can dribble, can cross, but is also a solid defender! On top of that, he is only 21 years of age and can still grow a lot. Probably wishfull thinking, but it might happen.
It'll all be fine by me, as long as Pep chooses wisely and makes Yaya a first team regular again!

if Villa join us, he might play on the left wing.. but belive me he will often play at the centre and Pedro on the left wing. I think Ibra can be better than this season but he will never be a "Eto'o or Villa" type of striker which many of us cules wants
Probably yes, but you should note that we don't actually play with 'wingers' (like Di maria or Nani). We play with inside forwards, strikers if you will, so Villa would be our second striker cutting inside from the left (like Henry has always done) and Messi cutting inside from the right.
True, Ibra isn't a real poacher like Villa, Eto'o and Torres are, but he definitely has other qualities. I think Pep will start rotating more in both players and tactics. I can easily see our 4-3-3 becoming a 4-1-2-1-2 with Villa as the goalscorer, Ibra in a more free role (which suits him better) and Messi as an attacking midfielder right behind the strikers.
That's also why we should keep Ibra: versatility. He brings a lot of strength and height, which most of the Barça players lack. Same goes for Yaya. Can you imagine us defending against teams like Chelsea or Inter with midgets like Villa, Messi, Pedrito, Xavi, Iniesta, Alves, … and only have Piqué and Abidal who can actually head?
I dont understand our strategy in transfers,Our squad is nearly complete and we are trying to sign Villa,Cesc,Torres,Mata.We need only one player and its not one from those,we should keep all of our players except hleb and buy a winger who can play left or right and then we should concentrate on keeping Zlatan and Yaya.I beleive it will be a summer full of surprises here at Barca but I hope they will not be bad ones like our last summer.
I think first we must be prepared that we will weaken our team, just like we did last summer with off-loading Eto'o and buying Chygrynskiy and Ibra and Keirrison for 100 million euros.
So this season, Yaya will definitely be off-loaded. We will probably sell him for 10 million euros. Ibra will be gone and the same with Henry. If you look at our forward line in the last few games of the season, we were basically left with 3 players up front, as Henry was finished, Ibra not adapted/trusted by Pep and Iniesta (as the LW) injured.
It's clear that Pedro is a superb player for us, so he's the versatile winger. But we seriously lack players when Henry and Ibra are out, especially up front. Is it enough with the addition of Villa and counting on Pedro-Bojan-Messi plus Iniesta as the LW as our attacking options? Maybe. At least 4 of those 5 are notorious goal scorers, quick and fast, able to finish the attacks off. The question then is whether we can count on the 6th player in attack as either Jeffren or a youth player (Rochina or Gai?). We should of course also not forget that Iniesta is just as good as a RW (with Alves giving the width).
So with Cesc coming in, Yaya definitely off to the EPL, and Villa coming in, we have some new options. But it remains to be seen whether we will go for a new backup DM or whether we consider Marquez or Pique good enough for that role. Pique is also a "Plan B" as a striker for us, dont forget.

Cesc is by far the favorite signing of the club and huge amounts of efforts will be put on completing that signing.
Yaya is definitely off, that's just certain, especially after his agent is pissing people in the club off with his rants. So Cesc would then be an option.
If we get Cesc, Villa and no one else, and off-loads Ibra, Yaya, Henry and the loan-outs (Henrique, Caceres, Hleb), have we strengthened or weakened?
We should also consider Thiago and JDS as part of the first team next season I think. Their age suggest that they should be ready. It's a shame if neither Rochina nor Gai is ready though, as they could be an option for the 6th spot up front behind Pedro, Villa, Bojan, Messi and Iniesta. It could be risky without any 3rd striker (this season we had Bojan, Ibra and Henry as striker options). If Rochina is not ready, I guess the only option if Villa and Bojan are out, to use Messi as some sort of striker up front, with maybe Pedro and Iniesta on the flanks (of course, with Ini on the RW then Alves owns the flank and Iniesta pushes inward).
At least with Cesc, we get a midfield able to score 20 goals a season for us. That's a massive change from the current situation with Iniesta maybe getting 1 goal per season and Xavi getting perhaps 7 or 8, similar to Keita.
I see your point, but we cant make this team with all canteranos… at least not this early. we will end up like Arsenal. I hope Toure stays, dont care if Cesc does not come, and Villa would be a good asset to the team. Ibra pls stay!!! Give us some magic. And i hope Dani gets someone who can make him rest. a prototype or something.

Cesc is a more modernised Xavi and yes he does score quite a lot of goals a season but he is definately not needed in the midfield of barca, that is the one place where they do not need to improve on. However, if Toure goes then another powerful DM ,who plays the same role as him, like a….Toure, like a Yaya Toure! He should fo'sure stay. He is the holding midfielder, the man who keeps the structure of the team, the giant taking patrolling the midfield, he looks after the creative children (Xavi and Iniesta). Another defender should be brought in to the team, someone like Lucio, Vidic or just someone from La Masia like Puyol. Villa seems like an alright replacment for Henry, although if Zlatan leaves Villa will probs play a more central attacker. Thats fine but it is not at all useful if you play a team as physical as Chelsea or Inter. i think that Zlatan should stay because he is quality and Villa is a good fit into the club.

We get a scoring midfielder in Cesc (scoring at least 20 goals for us), plus we have Pedro as our LW (he scored almost 25 goals this season in his first full season without being a fixed starter!)
And for RB we have Puyol which then give Milito more chances to fill in at CB (Milito is world class and a Puyol clone!)

We can't buy a player that will demand first team football to be our backup in case both Alves (who are very rarely injured) and Puyol are out. That's just far too little playing time for a RB backup and the agents will then start to complain and cause a fuss in the media and pissing Pep off!

Usually I'm not pessimistic and I really believe in the Barca line. With that said I do feel we need the force of players like Toure, Ibra, Pique and Puyol.
This transfer window we might instead go from men to boys. Without Yaya and Zlatan we might loose the power of this center line. Only in the back we will have the lions Puyol-Pique.

Like someone said above it would be a huge mistake to replace a mistake (Ibra) with another mistake (Villa). Both could work though but I ain't seeing Villa on the left so either Ibra*s gonna drop down behind Villa (not 4-3-3) or one is gonna be on the bench. I don't see either of those players taking that well. So I digress if Villa comes it's most likely Ibra leaves. This is all confusing. Villa doesn't make sense as a transfer for me.

Villa, Bojan, Pedro, Messi and Iniesta (a winger on either side) as our attackin options. Ibra gone. Yaya definitely gone (the board staff saying he is "uncertain" is codeword for "he's off").
Sure, we lack some tall guys but keep in mind that Yaya and Ibra never scores headers and is simply not that good in the air. In fact, I'm sure you would see that Villa will score plenty of headers for us next season even though he is 50cm shorter than Ibra.
So what we are trying to do is a Cesc, Villa and probably a backup DM. So 3 players in, while Ibra, Yaya and Marquez out (Marquez has to play regularly to be decent for us but that's not possible for him as a backup). Question mark then remains on Chygrynskiy. Our 6 defenders that is a certainty we all know about (Max, Abi, Pique, Puyol, Milito and Alves). Options for CDs are also the youth players like Botia, Bartra, Muniesa and Fontas.
I really don't think that attack will be the "solution" for 2011/2012. If Pep is still here it won't be. (I trust).
That smurf attack wouldn't work in champions league. We would continue to loose all our away matches. It's not only the height, it's physical strength and psychological "prescence" that goes amiss. Among the short guys Messi has presence so does Alves. Of course Villa does too.

I think on the contrary we have looked sharper without Ibra this season.
Villa might not be as great a signing as Torres would but at least he gives us great goal scoring, similar to Eto'o but better in the air.
I have to modify – I exaggerated the away losses a bit: We lost or drew quite a lot of the important matches in CL this year.
In Champions League 2009/2010 season our away record is as follows:

Regarding Ibra I think we had problems in all important matches in CL regardless of who was in attack. It was really clear against Inter (both semi matches) and against Stuttgart away. Against spanish oppenents I feel we didn't have the same problem.

would also be nice if they bring in Filipe from deportivo.. i know we don't need him but he's definetly one for the future. well if we pull in Villa, we have to unload Ibra. OK so..when we get Cesc every cule and I mean every cule would like to see: Iniesta – Cesc – Xavi, rite..sooo the question now is, is Cesc good enough to be a DM like a Yaya. And Cesc and Xavi are practically the same players, I don't think we'll be seeing them play together that often, because you NEED a Yaya or Busi as DM..
Cesc will take Keita's position of course.
And Iniesta together with Messi and Villa up front. Cesc is not like Xavi. Cesc has far more goals in his boots than Xavi (and also than Keita).

When Xavi or Messi get seriously injured, we won't be so vulnerable as we are today, as Iniesta can cover for Messi and Cesc for Xavi and we would still be good with Villa and Pedro up front banging goals in for fun. Also, don't forget the Pedro-Bojan-Messi combo.
I think stability is the key to success
I don't want many players to come to Barcelona this season.. It MIGHT create an unpleasant dressing room.. Which might create fights & destroy us!

i prefer torres but Villa wont harm! & he has more experience of La liga

We have the best players in the world, and we have them in our team. Just keep them and, yes, refresh FCB with Villa. But Cesc… i don't know. Anyhow, do not sell IBRA, he's a great player and he will prove so this following season. We are not REAL M and we do not need to fool ourselves with already-born stars! We have our onws, and these are all the 23 players and LA MASIA. We have everything to win again next season, and to win hard!

splashing out almost 220m in 2 summers is not exactly teh "barca" way.

I don't know…. all this money splashing around, it seems like a departure from the barca way, and i think we risk losing what makes the club special. There would be a huge amount of pressure on Villa to perform, and all hell would break loose if he didn't. As for cesc, i don't think he'll come. All he said was that he would only move to barca, and it'll happen at some point, but he said nothing about this summer. Arsenal can't afford to lose him yet either. I think the club should stick with what it knows, and put some faith in busquets, pedro, bojan. Barca have won everything in the last two years, and a year without so much may be a good swap for some investment in youth.
