Arsenal to offer Fabregas a new contract
British sports tabloid The Suday Mirror, claims that Arsenal will offer their captain Cesc Fabregas a new five-year deal that will make him the highest paid player in Arsenal’s history.
Despite still having three years to run on his current contract, the Gunners board will sanction a £120,000 a-week deal to ensure the 22-year-old Spaniard stays at The Emirates.
Arsenal hope the lure of a £30million contract will ensure Fabregas rejects overtures from Barcelona after the player recently expressed his desire to return to his boyhood club.

Come back home Cesc !!!
BS, wenger would never allow anybody to break the wage structure. Not even Fabregas.
Wenger is in control of all the cash as far as players go, and he'll do anything to keep Cesc.
Cesc is his favorite, all the players say so.
If Cesc goes, Wenger will go (Wenger's contract is up in 2011).
I think we will never get Cesc, so long Wenger will stay coach at Arsenal. Cesc, please come home and leave those wanchors! I hope Chelsea will win vs Arsenal this afternoon. Visca el Barça!
If he really wants to go and Wenger refuses to let leave he just needs to reject the new contract and leave for free in 2 years.
he is in contract till 2014…
Chelsea won 2-0 thanks to a double from Drobda I think anyone in Cesc's place would be frusted so lets see
I hope they do sign him to a new contract. Despite the sentimental attraction of signing Cesc, Barca's money would be better spent elsewhere.
Like where?
Seems like Fabregas is our saviour. If we don't sign him, we will be in trouble… I mean, we lack quality, we lack goals, we lack speed, we lack creativity… at least that would be the picture after reading all those papers and fans comments…
Like a goal-hungry LW? Or a proper DM in case Yaya leaves?
Well if we have 100 million to spend as is being reported, 50 mill should more than cover those 2 concerns not to mention we should get some huge cash from Yaya leaving. City will pay big if he is available as woult Inter and Man utd
Do yous eriously believe this 100m? I mean SERIOUSLY- as opposed to "I want to believe".
How much did we spend last season ? We were supposed to only have 30 million euros
Zlatan -50 (after the extra 5 for hleb)
Keirrison -15
Chyggy 25
Maxwell – 4.5
= approx 95
We will not spend 100 million euros, not when we have such a well-balanced world class squad plus a terrific cantera system. I don't want to spend that much anyway. All we need to do is buy either a LW or a Center Midfielder, yet i would prefer a center midlfielder because we need someone who can replace Xavi or play along side him when Iniesta needs to slot into the LW. So 100 million is just papers trying to make money by claiming such things. It doesn't make sense to spend that much when we have such a great squad that is complete and deep enough to challenge on all three fronts.
Further, why do we really need another LW? We've got attacking talent. And I doubt Yaya will leave.
Because Henry's going to leave. I'm 99% sure about that.
In theory it would be more useful to buy a goal scoring LW or a new striker cuz Zlatan and Henry simply dont exist anymore but for election candidates signing Cesc is a clear priority. Dont be fooled, also Henry signed a new deal in May 2006 and declared that he will never play in Spain and stays gunner for life…
Lol. Relax Zlatan will find his form. If we are going to renew Jeffren as has been said on the Barca website, I dont think we are going to buy a new LW.
Pedro Messi Ibra Bojan Jefffren
If we were to buy another LW where would Pedro or Jeffren go?
Agreed.
as much as i love that youth setup b4l i don't think that is strong enough to challenge real and valencia. reasons being:
1) we don't know if pedro willl be the same next season, i am always optimistic and players usually have good first seasons and then fall off once defenders learn your movements and coaches pay more attention to you, we shouldn't rush him into the first team, we have to slowly break him in like we did messi.
2)bojan has gotten worse each season playing less and less and the sad thing is he has the talent but not right state of mind to play in barca. i am still behind bojan to be a regular at barca but realistically bojan chances of being a camp nou legends close to being over.
3)jeffren to me is just like antonio valencia but we don't need an antonio valencia in barca cause all he can do is put in decent crosses which is hardly put away in barca, he has the speed but speed isn't everything and the best of defenders won't even quiver especially since they play anti football against us.
First team
Valdes
alves – puyol – pique – abidal
Xavi – Busquets – iniesta
messi -zlatan – aguero
subs
Goalkeeper: pinto
defense – maxwell, youth rb or van der wiel, chygrynskiy, milito, marquez
midfield – keita, veloso, thiago, affelay
Fwds – bojan, pedro, jeffren
IN
affelay, thiago(promoted), veloso(dm), youth rb or van der wiel(prefer youth rb since alves plays so much) and the 1 crack signing aguero. estimated price: 85mil(aguero 45+ 20 for veloso and 15 for affelay)
OUT
yaya toure, caceres, hleb, henrique, henry. estimated price: 65mil(yaya 40 depending on which club signing him, caceres 10, hleb 5, henrique 5, henry 5)
I love your squad except Affelay there are too many players ahead of him.also Yaya will never be sold for 40m only 30 for maximum
Problem is if we sign aguero it means literally no time for gai and jeffren. Thats why I was surprised to see us re-sign jeffren. As it is Bojan hardly gets time. I'm not opposed to signing Aguero if Cesc is unable to come. I'd prefer Villa to tell you the truth and rotate him and Zlatan as CF's
no one would pay 40mil for yaya.. 25 mil max.. wat about jonathan? forget him?
manc would pay 40mil for yaya, they overspend on everyone and i haven't forgotten about JDS, i just don't think he'll make it or wait for xavi to retire cause although i believe cesc isn't needed he will be at barca in the near future.
@b4l – don't think to far ahead, if gai is that good then jeffren will probably leave but the reason for jeffren's renewal is because gai isn't ready and we couldn't afford to let jeffren leave with the squad so small. i don't mind villa either but it seems much easier to get aguero. aguero is much faster anyways and can rotate with zlatan also but i won't complain if get villa, he is a great striker i am a big fan of all spanish internationals.
@mido – yea i know but i decided on a player not to big of a star cause iniesta and xavi will play 3/4 of barca's matches and affelay is 26 i think which means we can sell him in 3-5 years when most of our youth players will be prep and ready for first team action and possibly xavi will be a bench player or retired by that time.
Villa and Aguero are DEFINITELY not going to join Barca….Real may sell Benzema and buy Villa. Aguero is not going to another La Liga team, it's either EPL or Serie A. Why do you guys still dream????
Real may sell Benzema and buy Villa? LOL who is dreaming? Aguero wont go to aother la liga team? Who said that? He isnt from Madrid, he has no connection to the club. Torres I could understand. Aguero I dont see why he wouldnt.
its so funny when people are so vehement about something that is entirely false. what you are saying isn't founded in anything, you made that up, i feel bad for you.
aguero said before that he wants to play at barca. so never rule that out
if fabregas signs a new contract,as much as I would like him to be back barcelona should just forget about him…and give thiago or sergi roberto a chance in the first team..
agreed
And how many trophies Barca has to lose before you get it that giving cantera player a chance doesnt always pay off? Often its better to spend big instead, then you at least in some degree know what you are getting. You better not have blind faith in unproven players, unless they are real super talents. The team must wait couple years before Deulofeu and that Georgian kid are ready to join first team unless they are snapped by some EPL team! Gai is lost talent and I am not sure about Thiago or JDS
Dude, seriously, why don't you play Football Manager some more?
And yeah, home grown players do not pay off. Tell that to those who won six cups in one year. Reading some of your comments you must be angry that we did achieve all of that, because there is so many home grown players in our team…
The most important players are from la cantera…valdes, puyol, xavi, iniesta, messi and the philosophy should go on from generation to generation…Barcelona is not madrid that spent 1/4 of a billion when they dont win nothing, and guess what they can spend all they want yet be trophyless…and with Guardiola in charged im sure canteranos will make it to the first team…
Unlike you I have never played that game and never will, I am more busy right now with my imminent masters degree. If Messi and Xavi became stars, it doesnt mean that others will make it too. If you love Thiago so much why dont you marry him?
You know why arsenal is so desperate to get him to sign a new contract dont you? According to Article 17 a player can terminate their contract after 3 years as long as they pay the club compensation equal to the amount of the salary still outstanding. In the case of Cesc, that would be like 20 mil euro now seeing as how he signed his last contract in fall of 06. If Cesc really wants to leave, we can basicallly get him for half price if he uses article 17. Considering the circumstances under which he left Barca I think it would be smart of him to do it. Arsenal fans would be pissed, but Barca fans would love him. I think he might do it.
If this is true and possible and if he does that- I will than change my mind about him and him being at Barcelona.
yup. if he really does that, im sure cesc will get back the respect of all the haters.
but i doubt that he will do that to arsenal
he won't do that to arsenal and if i remember correctly article 17 has been only used twice cause the rule isn't liked by majority of the soccer world and would cause too much conflict between club and player. players have been threatened to be sued if article 17 was used and don't forget the image you will set for yourself if you do not honour your contract and leave. i won't want any barca player to do that so i don't expect any other player from another club to do it. barca will also get a bad image for pressuring a player into breaking contract. it could damage our transfers in the future, so article 17 should not even be considered.
Ok well i guess youd rather us pay 50 mil euro for our own youth player then? This is a perfectly appropriate situation for using article 17. Of course a team isnt going to like it if their player leaves under article 17 but we werent exactly thrilled when Arsenal used their legal advantage with labor laws to lure Cesc away in the first place. They took him from us for basically nothing and expect us to pay 50 to get him back? Talk about a complete disregard for image, look at their behavior.. If our club has any self respect whatsoever we arent going to care about playing nice when its clear they dont give a shit about their business ethics.
And why should Cesc care if Arsenal "only" got 20 mil euro for him, he came to them for nothing and carried their team singlehandedly for years. He owes them nothing, and if hes leaving them for us, hes not going to care about his image with them, hes going to care about his image with us. It is in his best interest to cost us as little as possible, if he is as cule as he claims he wont let us get completely screwed over here. He shouldn't have signed that ridiculously long contract to begin with, FIFA created article 17 specifically for situations like this. Because he is our youth player this is a special case where its actually the right thing to do.
you have some good points. but the press will go in an uproar if article 17 is used. on the other hand, paying 50 mil for our own cantera product doesnt make sense.
and cesc has at one time also said he doesnt mind going to madrid.
well if he does that, he must beware the next time he comes to camp nou.. the crowd will eat him alive..
ideal situation for us will be if he comes in 2 years for free. if he just refuses to sign a new contract and arsenal are pressed to sell him to us at a lower price for fear of losing him for free.
it would be good if we get him for < 25 mil although it seems highly unlikely..
I suppose Cesc at the end of his carreer would like to have won some prices ; best way to NOT do so is signing a 5 year contract with the Gunners.
It is all up to him, I cannot look into his mind but if he is a smart guy, he comes back home. Arsenal is a nice playing footballteam but they never will win a price. I suppose Cesc wil have noticed this in the meantime as well.
The day he will sign a new contract in Arsenal, he will be an enormous wanchor. He will never win any trophy at Arsenal. So, it's like you mention: it's all up to him. If he want's to win titles and trophies, then he must come home!
