    Somethings learned.
1)Bojan is a bench player. Lost every single 1 on 1 and just no retention did he even do anything?
    2) Messi was out of shape idk what happened man I still love you though.
3)S.Gomez is a better CB than Adibal verdict: S.Gomez>Fabiano
4)NEVER! AGAIN! put abidal as CB abysmal. Kanoute moved him every which way.
    5) I must admit Ibra was our best soldier today. A hard physical presence that wasn't there after he was gone.
    6) Most of you won't admit it and some of you will say sevilla's line-up in the 2nd half was the cause but to me it was way different. JDS>Thiago 1st half 65% 2nd 45%….it might not be a fair comparison but numbers don't lie.

Overall I expect a different game 2nd leg with better results.

    • Sachin says:

Thiago hardly played 20 minutes of the second half…

    • KhaledLebanonBarca says:

1)Bojan was not fit, he is great and will be one of the best ST!!! but today he had a bad game cuz he was tired!! (don't judge him just on one simgle game!!)
2)agree,messi was not fit! he is tired! Messi will always be best player in the world :D
3)Agree S.Gomez and Muniesa are better thab abidal and fontas on CB!!!
4)Totally agree!! abidal was great on LB! but CB he is VERRYYY BAAAAAAAAAAAAAD!!
      5)Ibra was GD:)
6)Thiago and JDS both are great, but today thiago didn't have enough time to play!
if u remember last season both played in spanisg cup, thiago was way better than JDS!! but it happens!! they are not perfect and they can have some bad games!! both have great duture with Barca :D
Visca el Barca and we will come back in camp nou 4-0 Barca :D :D

A lot of us said we needed to buy evehn before this match.

We have the best starting lineup in football. No doubt. Once you get past the starting lineup, though, there are some real thin spots, and the reality of today's schedules is that you do need depth.

I'm ok with the front line. Messi, Villa, Ibra, Pedro are all top class and Bojan can step in. That's as many as we need, can always play 2 up front in a squeeze. Fullbacks we're ok. Not a lot of backup for Iniesta and Xavi, not like anyone can fill those shoes but there's not a lot of people in place who can even try. At least losing both of them at the same time is unlikely and even having one of them puts us up on most sides.

CB…. I'm sorry, but weak. I just don't see Abidal as a CB, ok he has played there but he always just looks off to me. Milito is ok alongside Puyol or Pique but when he has to take over the leader role it changes. The kids have potential but need experience. We have nobody proven to cover for Busquets, or to play alongside him if need be. If Busquets, Puyol, or Pique is out for an extended time, we are in real trouble.

I wrote a long comment, it was all appropiate… But said the it has to be approved first??? hahahaha…

  4. blitzen says:

Ibra was good, and Keite was probably the best one on the pitch. Bojan had a very bad game and should have been taken off instead of Ibra. JDS had a few great moments, I thought, but no support. Messi tried hard but kept getting fouled and the midfield really let him down. They had a few brilliant moments, but overall their passing was atrocious. I'm not used to seeing Barca give the ball away that much. We needed Xavi or Iniesta badly. Defense was shambolic.

Don't lose heart, though. We will have all of our A players for the second leg with every chance of making up the goal differential. This is a small setback, but we still have a brilliant season ahead of us. Visca Barca!

The meaning of a word pathetic- a "fan" taking pleasure from the fact that his team lost, so he can go on the internet and tell some random, anonymous guy "ha! I told you so!"…

    • Barca fan says:

      truly pathetic. sad to see.
      another word for these "fans"… bandwagoners…. ("ha! i told you so!")… :P

  6. GoBeautifulGame says:

I think we should relax. This was just the first official game of the season.

It's obvious to me that the team and the staff didn't approach this match as a do or die CL or Liga game. If that was the case, Pep would have brought the world champions with him.

Just as with last season's Copa Del Rey, I think Pep used this game as an experiential ground to test some new ideas (sometimes experiments fail, that's the whole purpose of experiments) and as a way of giving a good experience to the youth players.

Sevilla players have to as they play a key CL game in a few days. They're obviously more advanced in their preparation as they showed in this game.

    Let's not forget that:

    - international players are still late in their physical preparation
    - players on today's pitch are not used to play together / lack of automatism
    - youth players lack experience (by definition)

With that said, I agree with most of the voiced opinion here that we should reinforce the DM position first and then the CB position.

Key CL and Liga battles will be won in midfield. Let's not forget the lessons from the World Cup where Argentina/Spain lost/won primarily because of their midfield.

  7. David says:

What the hell is wrong with you guys?! We lost this game without most of our best players, I can't believe you lot are so faithless with the team and the youths already. I believe we can pull this one back when we have our full squad back. Also, why lose faith in the youths??? It isn't because of the youths that we lost, I believe it is because this whole lineup has never shown up before therefore the players don't understand each other. You can clearly see that the team did not flow very well because they lack the understanding for the usual movement and positioning. You can't expect a team which never played together before to perform very well.

  8. El Messiah says:

    Relax folks, 3-1 isn't that a bad a result.
It only hurts as much because we were leading by a goal up at half-time, before we ran out of steam.
All of us had agree that Sevilla deserved a win after a dominant second half performance and as much as we would have preferred a 2-1 defeat, 3-1 it is and thus, it stays.

You should remember we were playing with inexperienced Mino, Gomez, Romeu, dos Santos in our starting lineup. Add to that, the tiring legs of Alves and Ibrahimovic.
Definitely not our strongest lineup. In fact, far from it.
And to make matters worse, Bojan and Abidal had a bad day at work.

Overcoming a 2-0 deficit in a return leg at home is very much possible.
Unlike Inter Milan, Sevilla do not have the defensive prowess to park the bus and hold our full-strength squad to a goal or less.
Also, keep in mind that Sevilla would be playing Sporting Braga in the CL play-off midweek.
So, expect a less resilient Sevilla side at Camp Nou next weekend.

To discuss the performance of our youth players and the need for further signings,
here was an outing wherein our senior players Bojan, Abidal were terrible while Milito, Alves were plain average.
To assess our cantera products under these circumstances would be unfair to them.
So, dismissing them as thrash makes no sense.
That said, that is no excuse for avoiding talks of their inexperience.
Romeu, Gomez were only decent until the goals started pouring in.
Granted that Milito and Abidal weren't exactly positive influences but yet, we could have done with more maturity from your second-choice holding midfielder and fourth-choice centre-back.
Afterall, we are a club that's reckoned as the team to beat in all competitions.
dos Santos wasn't very impressive either and Thiago – he hardly got the chance to prove his point.
However, I believe that with either of Xavi/Iniesta/Busquets to support them, they could be counted on.
The same cannot be said about the defensive side of our squad. CB and DM are very sensitive positions and more often than not, one mistake from either could cost you a goal and the match!
Ideally, a competitive club plays with 5 CBs in its squad. With only Puyol, Pique and Milito to account for, we are assuredly lacking in this department. Fontas/Muniesa could be our 5th choice but certainly, not 4th. While some might suppose that even the 4th choice centre-back had be hardly used, I would remind you of CL quarter-finals return leg where we neither had Puyol nor Pique to anchor our backline. I am not sure if Fontas/Muniesa/Gomez would be up to that challenge and a CB is a position I had prefer not risking to find out.
Oriol Romeu was good in the first half but given his anonymous second half, I doubt if I could confidently field him against Chelsea or Man Utd or even, Inter Milan.
So far, he has only played regularly in the third division and U-19/U-20 tournaments wherein his opponents were weak, either physically or technically. Thereby, I believe he would be better off developing in the Segunda division than being rushed to the senior team wherein the first game he is asked to start is against Chelsea! Drogba or any physical forward would humour his growing limbs.
Give him atleast another season with Athletic before we burden him with great expectations.

    Thereby,
in my opinion, we need a CB <– I would prefer to retain the services of Caceres than splash the cash.
and a midfielder – need not be a Mascherano whose popularity cannot be accommodated on the bench, but definitely someone who can fill Busquet's boots in his absence.
or a utility player like Capoue who can play both CB and DM
or a versatile midfielder like Banega who can play both DM and CM.

And yes, the MediaPro bankruptcy has left us with limited transfer funds but Rosell has assured that cash upto 50 million would be made available for further signings. Following that public announcement, we have only spent 9.5 million on Adriano … thereby, I am certain that one more signing would not be as much of a financial burden as many of you believe.

yeah, like anyody is gonna waste there time reading this ^

yeah, I guess it's pointless typing a review in the comments section!
but nevermind, I could use the footnotes for one of the posts to the sports blogs I write for.

        Summary:
3-1 is not a bad result.
bad game for Bojan, Abidal, Milito and Alves.
inexperience of Mino, Gomez, Romeu, dos Santos.
Romeu needs atleast one season in the Segunda division to develop.
Fontas/Muniesa may not be ready to be our 4th choice CB as yet either.
rosell said we have around 50 million for transfer despite the liquidity problems.
so we can make atleast one more signing.
my suggestions: retain caceres for 4th choice CB, purchase capoue or banega for midfield. :P

  9. Vaffanculo says:

Cantera my ass, its a mens game and those kids simply aint ready or good enough. It was a lesson for the team and eye opener for the fans who dont want any new players. Del Bosque must be very happy man right now, he got what he wanted but we should still demolish them 3-0 at home with the best squad

  10. Samwise says:

i feel sorry for our youth players as they had to come inot what was an extraodrinary situation with so many first team players out. using 5 youth players against strong opposition we were bound to come off second best. also sevilla's extra weeks training really showed in the second half.

i dont see the need for a CB as gomez was very good and i guess he is only playing till fontas gets fitter, so we have two good back ups for CB, however abidal and milito were a bit of a concern.
romeu did okay against tough opposition and if it was a choice between him and masch i'd probably stick with romeu and save the money, but i'd still like capoune for his physicality.
for me we definetly need to buy a quality back up for iniesta/xavi as they are the essential component of our team and to rely on youngsters will backfire on us as today showed. promote two youngsters buy one maybe two players with first team experience, preferably ozil.

  11. Just a fan says:

we don't need ozil, we need a DM capable to play CB

  12. Karla says:

WE NEED TO TRUST PEP AND HIS RIGHT DECISIONS, BECAUSE HE IS ALMOST THE ONLY ONE WHO IS SUPPOSED TO TAKE THEM!
The game in Camp Nou is closing in each and every day and we should support mentally and physically our players!
They weren't at their best and they didn't play their true game, but they are Barca and we passed through more difficult times, handling well.
Bojan was not too good, Ibra was awesome, back to his true self (ojala!), Abidal was not quite on the pitch, and most important VICTOR was not there, as well as our central defenders and midfielders. But let's stop the critics today and let's help them manage " HACER LA REMONTADA". Exactly as in the previous week against Inter at Camp Nou!
Let's do it! For them! We are, after all, their fans! VISCA EL BARCA!
    R E M O N T A D A !!!!!!

    Great job, IBRA! :)
