Exclusive: Victor Valdés (el numero uno)
Today we want to share with you a song about Victor Valdes performed by Joaquin. In addition to a great video, we have a little surprise for you, an exclusive interview with the artist. Joaquin agreed to share the ‘background’ story about this cool song and memories connected with our ‘Numero Uno’ goalkeeper.
Interview after the jump! Enjoy!

totalBarça: First of all, thanks for the chance to ask you a few questions. When I heard your song “Victor Valdes (el numero uno)” for the first time I thought about your reasons to perform such a song. How did you come up with idea to write and sing about Victor?
Joaquin: I wanted to write a football song for a long time and I thought the idea to write about FC Barcelona would be too boring. So I asked myself who shall I write about. I didn’t want to write about the most famous footballers like Messi, Eto’o, Xavi, etc…
tB: Why did you decide to dedicate the song to the goalkeeper? Usually when you ask people about great players everyone talks about strikers, sometimes midfielders, but not about goalies. As Zubizarreta said a few weeks ago, “When we lose, goalkeepers are the protagonists and when we win it’s the strikers.” What is so special about that player?
J: I knew that Victor had a lot of people against him and I thought that it would be great to write a song to put him in a better light. After all, he’s such a great goalkeeper that deserves more recognition, both from the media and fans. Victor is also a great team player that really represents the Barcelona slogan: ‘Mes que un club’! One other important fact was that he was born in L’Hospitalet (right next to Barcelona) and was raised in La Masia.
tB: The song was recorded about 2 years ago, so before this glorious time of Barcelona of the Six Cups, do you think that Victor changed during those last years ?
J: I think he has changed a lot, for the better in the past 2 years. He is more confident on the pitch and you don’t see him committing as many mistakes as he did before. Now he’s one of the living legends in the club and without a doubt the best goalkeeper since Zubi. I think he will be remembered as “El Numero Uno” in the end.
tB: Do you know if Victor has heard this song about himself?
J: TV3 Cat showed him the music video a couple of years ago “live” in the studio. I also met him earlier this year at the Barcelona training fields. He invited me to come and meet him when I was in Barcelona. That was a nice moment!
tB: In the videoclip almost everyone wears ‘Blaugrana’ shirts, was it just for the clip or do you really love FCB?
J: We all love FCB and we got a lot of Barcelona items from NIKE to be used in the music video. Some of us have been to Camp Nou several times and we get to watch the games here in Norway as well.
tB: It’s not easy to know something more about you besides songs, but from what I do know you live in Norway and other songs you sing in English. Why did you perform the song about Victor in Spanish?
J: I decided to write the song in Spanish because my father is from Spain and I speak the language. I usually perform the songs in English and I released an album back in 2007 called “Perfume”. The album is available worldwide on iTunes and online stores. I have begun writing new songs and I believe I will start recording next year.
tB: Thanks a lot for sharing the story about this song with us. All the best with your new projects.

Omg this is so cool!
I love this guy, it's so thoughtful of him to wrtie a son about VICTOR. I mean as you said everyone else would write a song about Xavi, Mess, Pique even Puyi, but not Victor. And it's such a great song. Can't believe it.
Again, wow! Love it!
haha, are they from Norway!? Got to love my fellow countrymen
I hope I get to meet some of this people someday, God I love Barcelona lol
This is so awesome. I'm so starting a band, writing a song about the club, getting free stuff from Nike and eventually meeting the players.. could it get any better? B)
No dear Iker es el numero uno . Valdes el numero dos .
I was thinking about buying Iker from Madrid and make our squad super complete , but the problem is we don´t prefer a Madridista to a Catalan .
uhh
The song is not really my cup of tea, but it's a very nice interview. Good to see Valdes getting some love.
well, everyone have right to his own oppinion of course, I think that Iker is good goalie, but VV is the best, he was awarded Zamora Trophy tree times (when Iker only once), but Victor is underestimated, he just started his adventure with Spanish national team, but I hope he will get recognition that he deserves.
No matter what, for me VV is el numero uno!

Totally disagree. Leave the Catalan vs Madrista out of it. VV has been awesome last season and even this season. How can you say that he is not the perfect keeper for Barca? Casillas is perfect for Spain, but not Barca. Here's why he is Barca's #1 — he can distribute the ball with great precision and passes as well as his teammates. He is great at one-on-ones, which is what happens a lot when teams get through the defense. He OWNED CR7 last season. The goals this season have been defensive errors, not keeper errors. In fact, VV made a great save in the Mallorca game, only to have the defense let it through. There was nothing that he could have done about that goal.
Now, please explain how Iker is better than VV for BARCA. o.0
Totally agree about the tune. :p But I put it on my iPod, anyway. It plays in my Barca play list on game days!
And Doris did a fantastic job with the interview.
I don't watch madrid boring football, but I saw how "great" iker played against Juvenstus 2 years ago or Milan last year… I aso remember his poor game against Switzerland few months ago… they wanted to destroy Valdes for example after the game against Liverpool in 2007… but he didn't gave up and now he's the best! poor casillas is spain's first goalie, because if he wasn't, Xavi or Puyol would be a captain, they hate Catalans
Off topic: I just read in an interview that Pato said that if he were to leave Milan he would prefer Barca over Man C. This would be awesome. He would abselutely rock our attack, along side Messi. Pato is so great, with great first touch and tremendous speed. I hope Rossel will keep his promise and bring in Pato. He is on a whole another level than the other forwards that have been rumored to our club lately(Suarez, Tevez etc)
BarcaFanDallas
you convinced me
Thanks
The song is gay.
I LOVE YOU VICTOR <3
Write a song about Busquets… or Abidal…
I dont think Real play boring football. Our team play boring football, when thing arent working. Then its just like watching 90 min of people passing the ball around, now thats boring. Real depor were properbly the best football played so far this year. We still havnt won with more than 3 goals, and it is clear to everyone that things arent working at the moment, when we cant even beat bottom feeders like Mallorca at our home turf. Real will keep on getting better, so what they have shown so far arent close to the finished product. Be afraid, verrrry afraid
Pato just more or less openly said he would love to play for Barca. If we dont take advantage of this now, then I will never forgive Pep since he is the only one who can make a stop to this transfer.
" We still havnt won with more than 3 goals"
What about game against Panathinaikos?
Well, I was thinking about the liga, but you are rigth about that one.
The problem is that Pep isnt doing his job good enough, thats why I complain.
dude personal remarks not allowed here, I am removing your comment here.
Thank You
The problem is that you are a madridista in disguise of a cule, thats why you complain like a looser.
And I guess AC Milan have no say in this . . . yeah, blame Pep for it….whatever…. o.0
hehehehehe real madrid dont play boring football but barca does. haha ur pathetic and officially just proclaimed urself as a madrid fan not that u havent already.that game was probably the only entertaining game madrid had so far and Depor is the worst team in the league. " Best football played so far this season" HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
blaco, u quit smoking or something? u developing some good neurons!
Yo,
ya heard about some kinda preference barca might have about buying pato when they sold ibra?
Okay, I've read the quotes — Pato says that HE IS HAPPY WITH MILAN. He just says that if he left SOMEDAY, than would want to go to Barcelona. You make it sound like he is asking to leave. He's not. So you'll just have to "hate Pep for not signing him," because it's not going to happen. :-p

Hehe, actually Abidal is one of my favorite players. I can certainly manage to write a song about him ..or if not maybe a poem? .. he deserves it
i totally agree…. valdes is one of those players that aren't recognized enough… great tribute to our number 1.
