Valdes: Barcelona’s saviour
Years defending the Barcelona goalmouth Victor Valdes could smell what was coming. While his companions entered the field slightly sleepy, he went out with his five senses in a state of alert, and how it was justified, proclaim Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo. The first minute of the game already saw him coming face to face with Pablo Hernandez. There was no time to ask questions or to place blame. He decided not to rush out, waited just long enough to close all the angles. And he avoided the 1-0 when some spectators were still looking for their seats.
He was the key that keeps Barcelona in the match in the first half. Barcelona lost too many balls under pressure from Valencia, who launched dangerous counterattacks that died at the hands of Valdes, always attentive to everything that was happening in and near his area.
Barcelona did improved in the second half but Valencia did not slacken their pressure, forcing Valdes to make merited interventions. When Pablo attempted a surprise lob from midfield in the 68th minute, Valdes responded well and arrived in time to use his fingertips to deflect the ball over the crossbar. And a couple of minutes later, perfectly placed himself to block a point-blank shot from Silva.
In the closing minutes, coming for another lose ball, he collided with Miku and fell badly on the grass, hurting for his back. It was an epic ending to his spectacular contribution that night.
Valdes has now completed his fourth consecutive game without conceding a goal, three in the league (Malaga, Almeria and Valencia) and two in the Champions League (Dynamo Kiev and Inter Milan). A total of 378 minutes in an impressive season on a personal level. In the twelve official matches played so far including both Super Cups, Champions League and la Liga he has only conceded a total of four goals. He is the leading contender for the ‘Zamora’ again this year, and leads the tally with only three goals conceded.

He used to be our weakest link and always gave me headaches!!
But now he's much more experienced and relaxed keeper.
Good for him I cant believe last season I was thinking why barca dont get a quality keeper.
and yet when he makes 1 mistake later in the season everyone will blast him and ask for him to leave.. that's the life of an insecure and fickle supporter not that that's a bad thing just shows your at that level where you believe everything is perfect and nothing can go wrong. if supporters keep their head on level terms with reality they won't be so disappointed with bad results. i want no one else between barca's post other than valdes. i would accept casillas but he is impossible to get.
Should delbosque not call him to spain it will be too harsh he is at least better than reina
as usual my post gets deleted for some stupid reason… stop being so stuck up and just let everything flow that shit gets annoying.
I agree guys. Unless it's spam or some delirious blabber, I think we should let people comment what they like. It's their opinions and we should respect that.
People always get on Valdés but he only makes bonehead mistakes in games that don't mean a thing. When it's the BIG times you'll see the great Valdés… 2006 & 2009 CL Finals he had some great saves and in both El Clásico games last year he came up big a few times….
when he saves Barca the papers say he is the best and when he does a mistake the papers claim he is the worst. He is the right GK for Barca .
Valdes has improved dramatically. I used to be part of the people saying he was our weakest link, but after last season, DAAAMMMNNNN!!!!!!
