Txiki: “What Madrid did surprised me”
Catalan sports paper Sport today reported that FC Barcelona Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, says the club has not been forced to spend beyond what is necessary, like many other European clubs, as a consequence of Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez’s ‘economic waste’ policy.
“It is a big pride for us to read what Valdano (Real Madrid Director General) say in different interviews about how they have had to do in one year what they would normally carry out in three to end the hegemony of Barca. This season’s Champions League final will be held at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and Real Madrid has five consecutive years of falling in the second round. The European Cup is a priority for them,” Txiki explained, adding “anyway it creaks a bit. It seems illogical and surprising that in a time of serious global crisis, a team comes and begins to spend that amount of money. It gave the impression that for Real Madrid, they could care less about money, that they could buy anything that they wanted”.
Txiki considers that “when a big team is willing to pay a large sum of money for a player. It also automatically raises the bar for other players. That’s something we have seen with our own eyes when we negotiated for Villa and finally for Ibrahimovic”.

I must say, they surprised me as well
madrid is a total disgrace to spain well the team at least
This explains thatwe wanted villa at first bec we though the price will be around 42m but when Valencia asked for more than 50m the we asked what about Zlatan he maybe a better player than villa(although I disagree)so we got Ibra and got rid of Eto in the same time
i disagree there mido. zlatan was the first striker we made a move for but inter asked for so much back then we scuffed at it and moved on. the move for villa came when villa failed to join madrid and valencia looked willing to sell that's until their former president miraculously gained back half the club and caused problems between the club. even though he promised villa the season before that he could leave this summer he went back on his word and stopped the move and also stopped mata's potential move and still hasn't offered him a better contract he was offered long ago. zlatan option reopened after that and this time moratti was more reasonable and lowered his asking price and also it was a good chance to get rid of eto cause we wouldn't have sent him to another spanish team like valencia or real madrid. who is better only time will tell both have great accolades. zlatan is the magician and villa is the ultimate goal scorer what they do for their clubs and what they win will decide that at the end of the season.
Madrid is a total disgrace to not only spain, but to the whole wold of football! What they have done will have a rippling effect that will take a long time to calm down.
I think we need to have a wage/buy maximum cap, or else this will spin out of control.
Sure! Pérez has spent 260 M € because two banks lent him 160 M € (as you know, Pérez is an important businessman and the presidents of both banks are his friends).
But you know what, it makes me even more proud of Barça that we didn't go overboard with our spending. I mean we could've easily matched Real spending spree if we'd gone to the banks and requested a loan or two. And since I our economy looks a lot better, they would've given us the money without a second glance. The best team in Europe and a freshly won triple… I mean come on, they would've lined up to kiss some Barça boardroom ass!
But we played it cooly (some might say too cool…) and got our priorities strait! That to me is a well balanced, well thought out strategy to conquer Europe a second time!
Much luv to Barça and the smart people that look out for her!!
I totally agree with you.
Nothing more to add, you said everything
TXIKI IS RETARDED
