Study reveals Barcelona paid correct market price for Zlatan

A study by the Economic Research Group, University of Navarra, Spain reveals that FC Barcelona paid Inter Milan the actual market value for Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer and so do, it seems, Real Madrid’s signings of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka.

The two clubs spent 228 million euros for these three players, an amount that conforms to their correct market (non-adjusted) value of 204 million euros, according to data from the group, which calculates the (adjusted) market price using an innovative method based on the media value of the players and club’s prestige involved in the signing.

Barcelona, who paid, according to the research, 69.5 million euros for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, is paying 11.5 million euros more than his non-adjusted market price of 58 million euros. However, when calculated against the media influence (impact) of the deal, the group said the amount is about right.

As for the other Barcelona signings during the summer, the study states it could not be fully determined as they found it “impossible” to calculate the transfer value of Keirrison and Chygrynskiy from Palmeiras and Shakhtar Donestk respectively. Barcelona paid the two clubs a total of 41 million euros. Former Inter Milan’s Maxwell is not mentioned in the report.

In the study of the media impact on the signings, the purchase of Cristiano Ronaldo by Real Madrid captured the attention of the media the most with a visibility of 979 points, ten times higher than the average of all the summer signings. Kaka is second with 702 points, with Ibrahimovic third, 391 points.

To be honest, Ibra has been worth every penny Barca paid. Not a big fan of lavish transfer fees, but every now and then, big clubs have to make big transfers. I for one am beyond happy and pleased at the ease of Ibra's adaptation and form, but then again, it's FC Barcelona, the worlds greatest and most entertaining football club!
