Medical: Injured Pique likely to sit out against Racing

Barcelona centreback Gerard Pique (22), who played his fiftieth La Liga game on Saturday against Atletico Madrid (27 for Barca and 23 for Real Zaragoza) injured himself in the match and will have to sit out of the match against Racing Santander on Tuesday, the Spanish paper Sport has reported.

Pique started the match with a niggle in his ankle and his discomfort was further aggravated when Sergio Aguero stomped on his foot in the course of the match. Pique was substituted by Rafael Marquez who returned to playing competetive football for Barca after an injury sustained against Chelsea in the Home leg of the Semi Final in the Champions League competition earlier this year.

After the match an X-Ray revealed that there was no fracture or breakage of tendon/ligament in his foot and the injury is not serious. However, he has been advised rest by the medical staff. He is expected to be fit again for the Primera Division match against Malaga on Saturday.

Interestingly, another Barcelona centreback, Henrique Adriano Buss (22), who was loaned out to Racing just before the season, may feature in the match for Racing.
