As reported yesterday by several Spanish newspapers, Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has been closely following Ajax forward and Uruguayan international Luis Suarez (22). Suarez gave an interview to Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo, where he admitted that his dream is to play for Barcelona.

What do you think about the interest of FC Barcelona?

I am very proud. We aren’t talking about any club, we are talking about FC Barcelona, the best club in the world. It would be amazing to play for Barca, but so far there wasn’t anything official.

We assume that you were in Barcelona before. Did you like the city?

It is wonderful. I first went there when I was 16, to visit my girlfriend, but also several times later. I love the city both in the summer and in the winter. I also like how the Catalans treat people.

What do you think about Guardiola?

What can I say about a coach who has won everything in his first season? Although he didn’t have experience, he learned so much about it as a player.

Messi?

Messi is the best, no doubt about it. It’s a pleasure to watch him play. I asked Martin Caceres about Messi, and he said that in the locker room Messi is just one of the players in the group and very humble.

Can you imagine the World Cup without Messi?

It would be very bad for him, but also for Argentina, because they have many stars who are great footballers. It would be a shame if they didn’t play in South Africa.

Are you a friend with Martin Caceres?

Yes, we are friends. We are close. We always shared the room when we were playing with the national team. When I came to Barcelona last year, we met and spent some time together.

There were many players from Ajax in Barcelona?

Yes, that’s true. We play similar styles of football. It’s not wrong to say that Ajax has the best school of football in the world. I came here really young, and it helped me a lot to grow as a footballer.

In the 4-3-3 formation, what is your favorite position?

I have always been honest with the coaches, and I let them put me wherever they think is the best for the team. However, I think I can play on all positions in the attack. I played on all positions already, both in the national team and in Ajax.

What is your best quality?

I can say that I am technically very good, and I am lucky to be able to score goals easily. However, I don’t like to talk about myself; I prefer others to say what they think of me.
